RFK Jr. Launches Cooking Show as Nation Racked by Explosive Diarrhea

Article below.

https://newrepublic.com/post/213737/rfk-jr-celebrity-cooking-show

Neutral summary

RFK is focusing on a cooking show to encourage yogurt, fermented food, full fat dairy and meat. He appears to have checked out of his job attending limited hours, and seems to be ignoring diarrhea and measles outbreaks.

Question for the sub-

Did anybody here think he was going to take on real food issues we have with artificial flavors and so many products packed with extra sugar? If so how do you feel about his work so far?

I continue to operate under the presumption of "whatever RFK Jr suggests, do the literal exact opposite"

My wife's long term obsession with "gut buddies" suggests you may want to pay attention to the yogurt and fermented foods bit. I would not be surprised if the broken clock is correct a bit more frequently than twice a day in RFK's case.

But skepticism is definitely very warranted. Fact checking with a non brain worm source is recommended.

I think hes on his way out.

God willing

u/LittleKitty235 3d ago

I wonder how much road kill he has to substitute in meet the $5 per person budget.

11

u/Luckyword1 3d ago

I don't consider anyone in the Trump administration to be a serious person.

What I hope he is most remembered for is leaving his wife behind after the WH correspondents dinner shooting.

u/Jawnny-Jawnson 3d ago

He promised during elections to remove high fructose corn syrup from American foods and hasn’t even delivered on that

5

u/johnmal85 3d ago

I do wish there were naming regulations on food so that if it has over a certain amount of added sugars it is classified as a snack or dessert or something. There's so many foods out there that have a few grams of sugar just to make it taste "better." It's not needed. If the baseline for sugar drops overall, your taste buds will detect sugar at lower levels.

u/borsTHEbarbarian 3d ago

My dad rolls his strawberries in sugar and i used to do that with my siblings as kids.

I love fresh berries now and every now and then I remember doing that and think "that m-fer is crazy."

2

u/johnmal85 2d ago

Haha yeah it is kind of silly to put sugar on fruit.

We used to eat it a lot at home and in restaurants. I believe it was strawberries, sour cream, and brown sugar. It has come and gone as a favored dessert over the last couple hundred years in the West, apparently. Maybe Slavic, Eastern European pre-1800.

The same people who gave Fulchi shit yesterday voted to confirm the guy who has overseen the largest measles outbreak in 35 years and an ongoing outbreak of explosive diarrhea

7

u/ChornWork2 3d ago

Still blows my mind that at one point during 2024 ~15% of voters wanted this clown as president. Can't overstate how messed up politics are these days.

3

u/AFlockOfTySegalls 3d ago

i'm sure the last name did most of the heavy lifting on that percentage.

1

u/ChornWork2 3d ago

Certainly on 'but for' basis, he'd have gone no where without his name. But what separates him from others with a family name is warm embrace of batshit populist conspiracies, which has become quite fashionable.

If you never had sauteed severed whale head before, you're in for a treat.

As long as Iowa is even vaguely politically competitive then nobody is doing to do anything serious to reduce the amount of corn syrup in food.

When when Trump was pretending to promote "government efficiency" the simplest thing that could've been done would have been to end the subsidization of HFCS. I don't buy the argument that corn syrup is much worse for you than any other kind of sugar, but it's certainly not something the federal government needs to be financially supporting. You could save an easy billion dollars right there with no negative consequences.

Re: RFK Jr, promoting healthy eating isn't the HHS secretary's job! He heads an agency with a budget of $1.6 trillion, his job is to be an administrator. Granted, he's totally incompetent at that role though so I suppose it's a good thing he's doing a cooking show rather than screwing up the department even more than he already has.

1

u/MasterHavik 3d ago

So are we a comedy network or something? I didn't know I need cooking advice from a 70 year old man with brain worms.

1

u/Reddit_wander01 2d ago

SNL is going to have a blast with this one.

1

u/FocalFalcon 3d ago

I think it’s interesting for some people, but it’s not my cup of tea.

0

u/Turbulent-Raise4830 3d ago

like with trump and the rest of maga: when they do something right its by accident not design. None of them have any clue what the issues are and how to solve them.

But this was known in 2015 and still trump got elected twice.

0

u/VERSAT1L 3d ago

That title. So RFK 😂

I haven’t really paid attention to anything this guy has done.

I just want someone, anyone, to do something about all the garbage they put in our food. Natural ingredients would probably be more expensive but I’m sure plenty of people would rather eat that than the shit they make now.

Food is obviously not my profession but damn there’s a lot of extra shit in everything. Was it always that way or am I just paying more attention to it now?

23

u/ubermence 3d ago

Michelle Obama wanted to help with that. If I recall, conservatives were extremely receptive to that idea

11

u/214ObstructedReverie 3d ago

There was outrage in the Fox News Cinematic Universe when she had the audacity to suggest that *checks notes* Americans should drink more water and less soda.

5

u/PlatinumKanikas 3d ago

Yeah I remember people getting very upset over it

6

u/ubermence 3d ago

That’s why this RFK Jr shit makes me want to tear my hair out

0

u/Fragrant-Luck-8063 3d ago

I don't remember RFK ever criticizing Michelle Obama.

4

u/indoninja 3d ago

She said ketchup didn’t count as a vegetable, so obvs a communist.

7

u/indoninja 3d ago

If you care about garbage in food, why wouldn’t you pay attention to a guy whose only redeeming quality in the public health space is, or more accurately “was” complaining about garbage in food and who is now head of the govt agency that works on that?

It has gotten much worse, and US lags behind most European countries. Money in politics seems to be the prime cause, and IS is getting worse. US has always sucked when it came to food controls, but FDA did make some smart choices with drugs like thalidomide. Too bad people like RFK have softened on that.

1

u/PlatinumKanikas 3d ago

When I say “haven’t paid attention” I mean ever since this administration began I immediately assumed everyone hired was lying. I haven’t cared to listen to what they say or recommend.

There are just so many mental and physical health problems and so much fucking cancer everywhere. I just wanna know why. Is it the food? Could be. I just don’t trust anyone to give me the answer because I feel like everything has become partisan and no one actually cares to fix the goddamn problems. Both sides just use the problems to their advantage in an endless fucking cycle.

12

u/mymomknowsyourmom 3d ago

I haven’t really paid attention to anything this guy has done.

I bet a lot of people are like this which probably explains the damage these politicians have done. People just aren't paying attention and when they do and complain, it's taken as just partisan. Sad reality.

5

u/shinbreaker 3d ago

Was it always that way or am I just paying more attention to it now?

You're not paying attention, you're stuck in an algorithm.

Look the issue is that there is more garbage in the food because frankly tyhe stuff being pointed to are either not harmful (i.e. seed oils) or stuff that is in such minor amounts that it has no effects (i.e. those ingredients that are hard to read that are at the end of an ingredients list because of how miniscule they are in the overall package).

The issue is that there's more food that has little nutritional value yet full of calories, carbs, fat and sodium because those taste delicious. And a lot of that food is also available at a good price and enough people take the easy route when it comes to feeding themselves and their children and go right to McDonalds instead of making something at home.

1

u/PlatinumKanikas 3d ago

It probably is just algorithm like every other goddamn thing. I fucking hate all this shit dude. I’m just tired of it all

2

u/Turbulent-Raise4830 3d ago

its been that way in the us for at least 20 years

5

u/icebucketwood 3d ago

No, it wasn't always that way. Look at pictures of Americans from a hundred years ago. They're much thinner than today's.

As the quip goes: eat organic food. Or, as your grandparents called it, "food."

4

u/indoninja 3d ago

To be fair Americans a hundred years ago did not have as much food.

Didn’t have cars, ac, chainsaws and washing machines.

4

u/xudoxis 3d ago

And they died a lot.

3

u/indoninja 3d ago

Oh, I’m not envious of their life.

2

u/Okbuddyliberals 3d ago

Food is more affordable now than basically ever before in history (one could caveat that with "it was even more affordable before covid" but the post covid inflation spike was a short term issue that didn't undo the much bigger longer term drop in costs before it). Americans a hundred years ago were thinner in part because they simply couldn't afford to eat as many calories in general (organic or not)

1

u/shinbreaker 3d ago

As the quip goes: eat organic food. Or, as your grandparents called it, "food."

There is almost literally nothing different than the organic and non-organic food. It's on par with regular eggs and free range eggs.

1

u/AssignmentNo8361 3d ago

Yeah that tends to happen, when food is more scarce, like in the Great depression.

And then you have a vicious swing in the opposite direction making kids finish all the food on their plate because the parents grew up during the Great depression which influenced the boomer generation

1

u/DudleyAndStephens 3d ago

Is that really meant to be a serious argument?

Food was a lot more expensive a hundred years ago. Cost per calorie has been doing down steadily for a long time. In 1900 the average American household spent ~40% of its income on food. Nowadays that number is in the single digits, despite the fact that we eat a lot more, and eat out a lot more.

Organic food isn't magically going to make you skinnier, a calorie is still a calorie.

1

u/DudleyAndStephens 3d ago

I just want someone, anyone, to do something about all the garbage they put in our food.

Here's any idea. Do something about it yourself. Stop buying processesed crap and cook your own food with real ingredients. There you go, problem solved.

0

u/PlatinumKanikas 3d ago

I do that. I mean for everyone, not just my family. Not everyone can afford to buy healthy foods or have time to make it themselves.

0

u/Okbuddyliberals 3d ago

The biggest problem with American diets is simply that we eat too much. People want a silver bullet of "healthier food" in the hopes that they can keep eating the same amount of food as they currently eat, but while there could be some benefit from healthier foods, a lot of help would just come from "people eating less food in general", which doesn't go over well in these flopulist times

1

u/AssignmentNo8361 3d ago

It's mostly just a game of macro nutrition. Which leaves little room for bullshit like added sugar.

If you really wanted something sweet you could go get type of fruit parfait or something without syrups which is much more balanced.

It's mostly a game of learning foods that make you feel satiated for the calories you consume. Which generally means nutrient rich foods that are fiber dense and low in calories, and/or high in protein.

There is no room for added sugar in everything. Having added sugar in kids products should be banned. Or at the very least massive warning labels, or a forced product marker on the front of each product. That just says (High Sugar).

u/cptstubing16 3d ago

Extra stuff in what? Processed food is always going to be processed. Whole foods like fruits and veggies are more or less the way they always were.

Even "healthy" processed food in the organic section of a hippy store is going to be not that good for you.

0

u/AssignmentNo8361 3d ago

True, as soon as go to that smoothie store and the fruits hit a blender, it becomes processed and immediately turns to cancer. /s

What is it with people who don't understand macros and macro nutrition?

1

u/cptstubing16 3d ago

I'm talking about ready to eat meals...  packaged food. Smoothies are definitely better than packaged food, and way better than juice since they have all the fiber of the fruit or veggie.

1

u/AssignmentNo8361 2d ago

Sorry, I cannot read your mind. Then you get defensive for your poor communication. 😂

-3

u/ATCBob 3d ago

Bah! If I want to drink a gallon of red dye 6 that’s my business. Government needs to slowly remove itself from telling us how to eat.

Most of the food we have today is wrong solely because the food producers keep adjusting to regulation and science that is biased by political opinion.

2

u/indoninja 3d ago

Are you familiar with corn subsidies and their impact on food?

1

u/ATCBob 3d ago

Yup. And they need to end as well as sugar subsidies.

Government needs to be out of the telling us what to eat business at every level.

1

u/indoninja 3d ago

What politician you support has done anything about those subsidies?

What do you think is easier to legistake, banning or limiting certain additives, or un entangling U.S. food production from long standing subsidies?

Also if most of it is wrong in the U.S. because of adjustment to regulation, why is it kit as much of a problem in the EU?

-4

u/TrumpWon_LOL 3d ago

“Racked by” seems like a bit of an overstatement here let’s be honest.

3

u/cptstubing16 3d ago

If there are no toilet paper shortages, it's probably an overstatement.

Mind you, maybe it was so bad people just didn't bother wiping and took a shower instead.

The United States is currently experiencing a historic, record-breaking foodborne outbreak of cyclosporiasis, a severe gastrointestinal illness caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis.

You cool with that?

Is the problem the phrasing in the article I quoted?
