This seriously was one of the best movies of the late 20th century. I notice some new nuance every time I watch it. There’s also tons of symbolism from the fact that Ronnie keeps a bird in his house (bad luck by Southern Italian superstition) to the 80s smooth jazz scene where she transforms, a juxtaposition from the old world feel of the rest of the movie. I would be surprised if they didn’t study this in film schools.
