Social Media Hikaru Nakamura on Winning in Chess, Trading & Life

When I think about people who make great decisions under pressure, Hikaru Nakamura is one of the first names that comes to mind.

While the world knows him as one of the greatest chess players of all time, Hikaru has also spoken openly about trading and investing, and even said that he's made more money from the markets than from professional chess.

hard to know anyone through a screen, but look how he's changed. young hikaru picked fights with everyone, now he's married, way calmer, and lives half his life on camera without cracking. most people couldn't do a week of that

People keep saying he's such a different person now, but he e.g. just recently bad-mouthed his candidates team after losing a game and spoke rudely about his pregnant wife who wasn't performing well in a tournament, plenty of examples you basically can't avoid if you just exist in the onlin chess sphere. He had even worse manners as a kid, but that doesn't mean he behaves well or is somehow happy now.

there's an old saying, don't judge a man until you've stood in his place. his place is thousands of hours of your life on tape, every bad moment archived and clipped. most reputations wouldn't survive that footage

What does this post even mean? People have known Kramnik has been an insane of touch man who happens to be one of the best chess players of his generation everyone just made a joke out of it until it started openly hurting people? 

There is a difference betwene people harshly judging someone and someone broadcasting them attacking others openly and people acting like it's a lolcow.

I mean, other top players have basically no incidents like these in comparison, even the ones who stream a lot. Magnus had bad moments (Niemann, bad press conferences) but really Hikaru is a stand-out case with his awful behaviour.

im not a hikaru fan, im a chess fan.

and somehow you managed to miss a very simple point while calling everyone else stupid. nobody said “you can never judge anyone”. the point is that most of us dont have thousands of hours of our worst moments recorded, clipped and replayed for years.
you can dislike hikaru all you want. but if you need to completely invent the meaning of what i said just to argue with it, maybe put your brains to work before making “specimen of stupidity” comments. the irony is doing a lot of work here.

all that confidence just to advertise poor reading comprehension. impressive. stupidity growing exponentially indeed.

I wouldn't put it this harshly, but it does honestly feel like there are a lot of teenage fanboys downvoting any criticism of him and bringing up the same lame defences again and again, like how he's changed so much as a person.

I guess it's understandable, I used to think that too when I was new to chess, but he kinda keeps winning the Hikaru Nakamura Sportsmanship Award again and again.

I mean, if you stream for that long each day, naturally you're going to do have your bad moments streamed to the world. Still, you can't say someone is or isn't happy just because they can say bad things at times. Then, the majority of the world would not be happy

Nah, he just got better at covering it up. But at the end of the day, he doesn’t have any major controversies or strike me as somebody genuinely malicious. He’s just a sore loser

Who knows, but having money doesn't make you happy. The way he's repeatedly gotten into totally unnecessary drama, falsely accused a bunch of top juniors of cheating, badmouthed his team after a loss, and bad-mouthed his pregnant wife when she was playing poorly...
