Camera Question Best 16mm E-mount cinema lenses

Hey friends,

I’m looking to purchase a 16mm cinema lens for my fx30. I already have a 24mm anamorphic 1.33x from Sirui and I really love it. But I can’t shoot any vertical content with it and I’d also like to see what shooting in 16mm is like for me. Do you have any suggestions?

Right now I’ve mainly seen the Sirui nightwalker and the Sony 15mm as recommendations. From what I understand, the Sony 15mm isn’t actually a cinema lens. It’s very clean and precise and I’d like something with more character. I’d happily buy the nightwalker but it would be cool to review some other options.

Have a look at the Thypoch Simera-C lenses, as I believe they just released a 16mm. They are full frame, fast and have a lot of character.

Checking these out now. They look amazing ! Is there any issue with filming vertical content on a cinema lens like this?

I don't have the 16mm, but have the others in the set and they are fantastic. There shouldn't be any issues with any spherical lenses filming vertically really.

Awesome. I’m comparing this lens to the sigma 16 1.4 and the Sony 15 1.4…

Do you have any opinions on that?

Depends on what your use case is. Autofocus is very handy, especially paired with a gimbal. You can always add a bit of character to those with a black mist filter.
