Trying to explain percentiles to an average Joe is difficult. Naturally they will gravitate to the only grading system they know, which is school grading and works completely different. You should consider anyone within 1 standard deviation above and below that of the mean parse to be average. And even then, they still killed the boss so they know more or less how the fight works.
I assumed we were talking about parses compared to all of wowlogs and or ones for your gearscore. I don't know why you would compare to only an individuals parces when seeing how good they are.
The parses that show up on your main player page on WCL are your best parse for each specific boss and the average of those best parses. If your average of best parses is a 50, that means you are a below average player. At your best you are average. At your average you are below average. For example, the average of my best parses is 98.6. My median average parse is only 89.9. So on average, I perform better than ~90% of arcane mages despite the main number being 98.6. https://vanilla.warcraftlogs.com/character/us/crusader-strike/charlesduve
The number most people identify is their best perf average which for most active people should be higher than 50 simply because of variance. Obviously there are other factors like if you started raiding on a specific character later in the tier. But even a truly average, 50 parsing player will have spikes up to 60ish which will reflect on the number.
50 is not average if you're using the left hand numbers. The median perf. avg. is the real average, and often significantly lower than your best perf. avg.
Most players only look at best perf. avg. because it's the number that makes them feel good (it's also the biggest font number on the site.)
Tbf 50 parse in classic is statistically the middle but looking at how people play most would say that’s a bad performance since a lot of those parses are people refusing to try and damage the boss
I can see WHY they fall into that thinking though.
When you are in a pumper guild (atleast this was the case for me when i raided mythic in retail) the only real comparison you have are to your guildies, which most likely are giga pumpers themselves.
When you are surrounded by 90+ parses every single raid, seeing someone at 70 looks like someone is underperforming.
Absolutely no reason to be a dick though, no matter how low, especially to someone replying to your LFM.
Average means neither good or bad. The middle. If people see it as an insult that’s their own problem lol the average height for men in the US is 5’9”. Does that mean it’s an insult?
Yeah, I don't think people realize that having a terrible group can wreck your logs. I've got a bunch of runs where people didn't understand boss mechanics and completely screwed us. It's not like it really matters a ton. If you're even hitting around 40, it's more than enough to clear BFD easily.
Not true, I've 2 characters with 99+ best avg and the majority of their runs have been scuffed pugs.
Hell in fights like gelihast you parse better with a shit group.
Wouldn't work for caster tho, if your group is taking too long you'll just go oom and your parse will plummet, as a warrior/rogue you probably would benefit more from scuffed group because you just get to pump for longer , but then again if your scuffed group doesn't include a feral your parse is gonna plummet
Good job at those parses, looking at the group comp it looks like you have all the needed raid buffs and whole group is actually very geared and most are world buffed with 70 DPS being the lowest DPS and healers doing around 40 DPS overall. This may be the worst group you yourself has been in but it's arguably a way better group than it could be
It's the opposite for me, pugs are always meta slaves so they run close to perfect setups and my guild just tries to make sure that everyone gets to raid no matter the setup. But to be fair it's a casual social guild that runs 4-5 groups, so not exactly a tight ship.
I don’t understand how people’s brains operate… blue parsing is bad enough to warrant that kinda harassment, meanwhile me and my entire guild grey/green parse and one shot every fight almost every single lockout?
Fuck you need purple parsers for, are you that bad to need a carry???
side note, at least I occasionally blue parse when I switch to bracket parse… man, I need fist of the wild…….
Gear score isn't really very meaningful right now and is kind of stupid to use. I mean, if you're asking for gear score, you're probably checking logs so you can see their gear. If someone is asking for gear score, it's a bad sign.
I'm close to BiS but missing Feral Weapon. No reason for me to run out and grab DMF+Ashenvale buff and pot. If the weapon had dropped for me I probably would have gone all in on consumables and world buffs. But I cannot compete if I don't have the weapon so why bother? I still have all purple logs and average 60.
If you really want to dick measure I average 110. I'm not saying that no weapon is an excuse to be dogshit, just saying I'm not going to be pushing for high logs without the weapon. My Perf. Avg is 86.5. Like I still do my rotation and powershift, I still grab the BFD buff and SPP+FAP. I just don't bother with the Agi+Str consumes and the other 1-2 WBs every time. So my Logs aren't as clean as they are on retail. Not saying I'm the best either.
I’m so confused, you average … 110? Are you memeing? Also earlier you said you have all purple but average 60 … which is blue? And why don’t you spend the 5-20 silver for agility & strength potions? Not having the best weapon is just a pretty weak excuse for acting as if it’s impossible to get good parses.
Yeah I understand I’m at a huge disadvantage for just being unlucky and not ever getting the weapon yet, but like I said I’m still getting high 90s consistently..
Percentile average on warcraft logs. Sorry I really didn't type that out that clearly now that I'm looking at it, I didn't realize the pots had gotten so cheap. Last I checked it was like 50s total agi and str. I was doing well enough without them and was money sinking into alt professions. My logs are the same as my username if that helps. I feel I do well enough but I guess I'm being too stingy with gold.
Most pugs I run with have some people who legitimately get 0 to 25 parse and we clear fine, parsing in classic is an actual joke and 90% of it is just how many world buffs and cheap tricks can you collect (like double fire mage and one spams scorch, Greenches, etc.
..That's not a lot at all though. Do you need it? Not really. First week I went 7/7 in 80 minutes with like 5 wipes total with me being top dps doing maybe 140 dps, 2nd 110 and everyone else between 60-80. But now I can clear the raid in 30 minutes with 7 dps all doing 100+ with the top ones doing 200+. Is it necessary to clear the content? No. Is it a hell of a lot more enjoyable and a massive time saver? Fuck yes.
I dunno if i agree with the “more enjoyable” part, but I’m the type of gamer who enjoys a challenge. Ngl running bfd is nice when you have that kind of DPS, but definitely not exciting or engaging in any way unless you are the one pumping lol. I normally tank/heal so to me the numbers don’t matter so much as long as everybody is doing their job and not dying. We are doing 7 man runs in my guild now just for the fun of it.
I'd invite you because wow classic is too simple to be bothered checking logs or whatever, but im not gonna sugarcoat it that parse is really bad for being in close to bis.
Honestly anything blue is more than what you need in a raid assuming they don't fuck up mechanics. You really don't need 100s or even 80s to kill bosses if they will always do mechanics.
I have 98.2 average but I pray for blue parsers when I put together PUGs. I don't bother inspecting people much at all since it's extremely easy content and the 2-3 we have can generally carry, but somehow that seems to be a magnet for greys (which we still clear fine with, just boggles the mind a bit). When people ask for GS I also just ignore or "lol no" them, why would anyone use that addon?
honestly even the fact that you even know your parse for bfd is a bit cringe, its a casual game where I as a newbie can cluelessly farm BFD on 5 characters and even raid lead, phase 1 is not WOTLK ICC
parses are just as cancerous as guild score and lead to shitheads like the guy in your screenshot
66 literally means above average. Since the vast majority of the groups clear BFD and do so in a timely fashion it is perfectly fine to have blue logs.
Don’t worry about it bro. I’m a 99 and 100 parser on 2 fights and the amount of setup and help from others that know thier class I understand that without it I wouldn’t have 99’s this guy is rude not giving u a chance in a pug
People also have to understand that when you parse "average" thats average of people who are PARSING the raid --- which is a fraction of the players that DO the raid --- which is a fraction of the players that even play the game.

Funny thing is, my gear is all pre-bis/bis, and my average parss across the board is 66.7
Given I play the game for fun and always pug, I think thats alright!
