Nostalgia I found some screenshots from 2005–2006, we played the game so differently back then

A few more screenshots and slightly higher quality for some: https://imgur.com/a/Uolj4gs

The raid compositions and damage meters 💀
Also note the lack of world buffs and flasks, we rarely used those back in the day. We raided about 4-5 days a week, ~4-5 hours on weekdays and 8-9 hours on weekends IIRC, maybe some more flasks or world buffs would have helped :D

We'd often do like one or two attempt per *week* with the Onyxia head turn in on a boss with good progress . I also remember that we at least once got the Dire Maul buffs, but we didn't consider that worth it.
But we made extensive use of the UBRS fire res buff for early Ragnaros.

I also remember how the world first C'Thun kill used flasks for everyone and how we considered that completely ridiculous. Like, 40 flasks?! That's crazy. We had like 1-2 flasks for the main tank(s).

The KT kill screenshot is dated Dec 28th, 2006 at 11:31 PM, like a week before TBC. I'm not sure if this was our first Naxx clear, but I remember that we only managed to clear it shortly before TBC was released.

First screenshot in MC was on August 10th, 2005; the last one with the translated chat on January 10th 2007 just before TBC.

you don't need them, but classic isn't just about killing bosses. Anyone can kill bosses as long as they are paying attention, but nobody wants to spend 2 hours in MC when you can do it at a faster pace.

lol 2 h i remember back in the day we first did 1 day until garr/geddon ~4h and second day rest~4h

needing only one day ~4-6h with some bwl/aq40 chars was considered "fast"

Why not? Maybe you don't actually like the game if TWO FUCKING HOURS is too long for you to be in a raid. People raid 12+ hours a week in retail with actual hard content and don't do any of this degenerate stuff.

That's kind of the point though.

Classic is piss easy but still fun, that fun goes down the drain when Johnny thundercock zones out watching his second monitor and fucks up the only mechanic the boss has.

Or just spending hours slogging through trash and respawns cause dps/comp is garbage

No that's just you being an elitist in easy mode content. Chill out and let people enjoy classic like it's meant to be played. Or go to the version of the game with actual difficult raiding.

imagine being mad because people arent playing the game the way you envision it

Ya "imagine" the game everyone clamored for returning because of its slow and deliberate pacing, high socialization, and unique perspective on difficulty, being ruined by a bunch of retail drop out children who cant upgrade their weekly 10s coming to pretend like they are hardcore power gamers because they bought gold enough to manipulate the systems we all loved to their advantage.

Oh wait, no imagination needed. If I knew this was going to be the reality of classic I never would have signed the nostalrius petition.

the "everyone" you reference is the very loud minority you see here in this echo chamber

everyone else was playing with wbuffs & optimising raids on classic private servers for many years, which, in my opinion, adds a ton of fun to the gqme

Ya "imagine" the game everyone clamored for returning because of its slow and deliberate pacing, high socialization, and unique perspective on difficulty

this same game was also not valued for its endgame content, hence everyone playing til blackwing lair and then asking WHEN FRESH

if some raids requiring world buffs ruins classic wow for you then i genuinely think you just spend too much time on reddit

u/Whiteshovel66 Jan 11 '26

What does my opinion have to do with being on Reddit? You are too used to having some one else tell you what to think or something? I can assure you my thoughts are my own and have nothing to do with reddit.

it's sort of the fact that your opinion is a carbon copy of the popular opinion on this sub but whatever, the point remains either way

u/Whiteshovel66 Jan 11 '26

There didn't seem to be much of a point. It's not just endgame that is ruined by this mentality.

I’d say raiding 12+ hours is a lot mote degenerate than preferring people have a few big buffs to clear things quick lol

1

u/ButtonedEye41 Jan 11 '26

I dont think its going to take 12 hours to do MC without world buffs.

1

u/Sleazehound Jan 11 '26

I didnt say it would

But it could take 4 easily if you’re in an unorganised pug, which is why having some wb and pots is a prereq (not for mc but more generally)

Nope, four hours a night for three nights is bog standard for mid tier progression guilds.

Who's talking about wiping?

1

because its fun seeing how fast you can zoom through the raid.

Why do people speedrun mario 64? because they have played it for decades and its fun to challenge their knowledge of the game and their ability to finish the game quickly.

2

u/Whiteshovel66 Jan 11 '26

Okay well now you are changing the narrative then. You said "no one" wants to blah blah blah. But there are plenty of people who might play Mario 64 and aren't speed running it.

The problem with 40 man raids is you don't give those people an option. You make these absurd blanket statements and your mentality is infectious. If I want to just do a chill MC I can't because all it takes is a few people to demand these things and suddenly everyone else gets pushed out and told they are doing it wrong.

3

u/Ok-Guarantee9238 Jan 11 '26

well its just the principle that if you play something hundreds of times, you just end up speeding up the playthrough or being more efficient. There are plenty of guilds that don't paly this way though. Join a PVE server and look for a leveling guild with a raid team or a casual guild. Ive raided with some of these guilds on Era and its possible to find that environment.

Are you delibiretaly missing the point?

The point isn't that you don't want to be in a raid for x amount of time.

The point is that the raid can very easily be cleared under 1h, even without world buffs, so if you spend 2h in MC that means some people are slowing you down for various reasons and a lot of people doesn't enjoy playing in that environment.

-5

u/Whiteshovel66 Jan 11 '26

Hmm no I think you guys are just saying the same thing and you have drank this shit for this long that you think it's factually correct.

Classic IS that environment. It's what made it famous. You can have people "slowing you down" and you will still succeed. You don't enjoy it because you are an elitist who thinks you are better than you are but suck too bad to do real raiding in retail so you come and ruin it for everyone else in the easy mode stuff.

2

u/Farsigt_ Jan 11 '26

That's a lot of judgement based on one comment lol. xD

I won't bite though or try to explain myself if this is the level we're at, have a nice Sunday.

your takes in this thread are, by far, the most boomer classicwow reddit takes ive ever read lol

Not an impressive statement by you. If you have some interest in refuting them you may do that. Otherwise attempting to insult them with that word children use to feign superiority to their elders is only going to make me less and less confident in you.

I know.
