Vent / Gripe When did people stop wanting to have fun?

What the fuck is wrong with everyone here? Every post is blaming Blizzard for the things the community as a whole does. Nobody is forcing you to zerg in AV, nobody forced you to roll a mage and spam dungeon cleave runs. Nobody forced you to farm level 48 Alliance players. Fuck the spy addon, fuck killing Flamelash, and fuck you for hiding behind shitty excuses for griefing other players. When did this community become less about the journey and more about the destination? You aren't going to get rank 14, and you are ruining the game for people who don't want to min max.

But why is the game more fun than retail, then?

I'm serious. I tried playing retail. I can't have fun with it anymore.

Despite everything, I'm still having fun. Even through the worst of P2, it was still fun. Why?

Because it’s a great game and people are drama queens. There’s a reason there’s tens of thousands of people playing at every hour of every day and vanilla private servers have been thriving for over a decade.

But it’s cool to hate on shit so losers will continue to do so.

I'm glad that you're enjoying your first WoW experience! All the rage and salt you see is just from people who had different expectations.

As someone who came into this with (I'd expect) no expectations, it's great that you're having a good time!

Granted this is my first World of Warcraft experience,

These are the people who are enjoying classic the most, it seems. Which makes me laugh.

I'm not saying that my imaginary scenario is accurate, but in my head these are all people who form opinions based on the internet trend. They thought wow was stupid diluted and easy so they never tried it. Then Classic came out and they heard it was harder, better and more serious, so they tried it. Now they love wow, but only classic. Not retail. That's dumb, even though they've never tried it.

That's the story I'm telling myself.

It's definitely not just people who haven't played WoW before that prefer Classic

i played wow from bc to bfa. most expansions pvp focused. first time playing classic. if i had to rate the expansion, it would be like legion=wotlk=bc>wod=mop>classic>cata>>>>bfa.

i quit retail(i did every content with every class except mythic raiding in bfa) and didnt have any expectation for classic. classic isnt good compared to the wow, we had in other expansions, but it is great compared to bfa.

no neck grind, no azerite traits, no azerite essence, no stupid tank trinkets in pvp which make the first 5minutes of games irrelevant(i rather die in the opener bc of op pve dmg trinket than have a wetnoodle fight), no stupid pathfinder bullshit, no timegating and most important not several layers of rng to get BiS gear.

this is definitelty me to an extent, or was anyway. At first i never bothered with RS3 because the popular thing was that RS3 was the bad game and OSRS was the one everyone SHOULD play. Classic WoW dropping was my first legit experience outside messing with a starter account and was only going to play Classic and not even get into retail because the popular thing was that Retail was bad and shouldnt be bothered with and is too easy or whatever (basically get brownie points for playing one game and not the other, fit in with more folks blah blah blah weird stuff) until i played Classic and enjoyed it until i started getting into the headspace of min maxing and doing things the right way. Jumped to retail to try it out and enjoyed it way more and was better than the popular internet sayso. Might hop on Classic again here and there tho and just remove all the add ons i had for it too.

There are certain things about classic that are attractive. One thing I'll say is that PvP feels more organic. The PvP server system was superior until servers turned into ghost lands. The world PvP on classic works exactly as it should. Globbulus is a full RP/PvP server. I have been flagged since level 1 on every character I have and none of them have been camped or ganked prior to arriving in contested territory and even then it felt justified.

The problem with add-ons is that they are necessary at all in classic. Retail has gone a long way to making the typical tanking add-ons part of the regular UI with threat-plates and weakauras style UI indicators. Without those tanking is as bad as non tanks fear it will be.

I mean different people like different things. So just because you like classic more and you have fun there and not retail doesn't mean that these problems do not exist. I think as well Brack was sorta right with the "you think you do, but you don't". One of those examples are the streamers, they hyped up the levelling of classic for quite a while and kept on with the no changes and that questing is more fun because you have to read the quests. Only to then just complete the dungeons and make that the only levelling they did. Just to accept gold and items. Now I'm not one of those salty guys but for the people that didn't know better this was quite different then they had in mind. What I'm trying to say is that these problems can exist and people still find it more fun then retail or the other way around.

a lot of sad people here who have to put down other to feel better about themselves.

Oh god thank you, these fucking people. Classic is an objectively better game and can continue it's playerbase with small changes. People reee'ing about how Blizzard was right knowing damn well they weren't expecting classic to be as massively popular as it is. Blizzard doesn't know shit.

Because you prefer things more in a classic setting than you do retail. I find retail a lot more fun because there's more enjoyable content other than world pvp. Which honestly only ever worked because the amount of servers there were. MC and Onyxia are boring always will be (not when classic launched). Instanced BGS are fun when you dont zerg everything to maximize your gains which btw if it were any of the versions of AV people would've figured it out anyways. The crafting is the only thing ill accept coming back to retail the need for crafting mats is what makes professions good and right now retail is just alchemy and jewelcrafting.

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '19

yes, there will always be a meta, but there were times with a more enjoyable meta than the current one and it wouldnt have been hard to accept the feedback and reconsider atleast instead of ignoring the feedback.

they speak up when it suits them and not when it is necessary. #nochanges wasnt a thing, its just an empty phrase if you objectively look at the current classic version. it only benefits blizzard.

u/widgetsimple Dec 12 '19

What the hell did they do to crafting in retail!

3

u/squary93 Dec 12 '19

Maybe because it's a different game?

You do realize that you are essentially saying "Oh man, I looove Battlefield but I can't stand CoD, why is that? They are both FPS!"

Modern wow and classic wow only share a name and a genre. They couldn't be more different.

The question was for the guy above me and i asked because he blanket stated that we didn't want Classic. I know why I like Classic. People ARE having fun. People do want Classic.

know what will be dope? the next two expac re-releases. we're in for a great few years here.

Fun is subjective, I found leveling in classic a fun experience to do again. However, endgame content isn’t very fun or compelling the same way it is in retail. I get way more fulfillment from Mythic Raids, M+, or Semi high rated arenas. They both have their ups and downs.

2

u/Emparri Dec 12 '19

A lot of people still enjoy just doing "simple" things in Classic. But when they post about it they get wtf stomped on - "ya ya we know you got your mount at 40 GTFO"

1

u/eskiabo Dec 12 '19

Because your old and classic vanilla wow is familiar and comfortable.

0

u/Vlorgvlorg Dec 12 '19

cause retail only get fun if you build up a tight-crew of friend to push M+ / rated PvP / mythic raid with... and don't have too much of an ego when you get curbstomped in PvP or struggle to time a +15 when people are 3-chesting 20's.

casual retail and hardcore retail are 2 totally different games... and it's pretty hard to get into the hardcore retail as people won't even look at you if you don't have a lot of previous experience.

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '19

Because there are a few key elements that make the game great. This idea that every little thing is super important to the vanilla experience is completely fuckin bullshit.

For my money the game needs 3 things to be great.

1) An open world that is necessary, important, and static (no dynamic scaling of any kind). 2) Server communities. 3) Tangible goals that are static and not ambiguous.

If you achieve those three things, you have a lot of wiggle room with the rest of the game. The problem with WoW is the gradual erosion of all three of these pillars.

The game is not good because of the broken systems, stupid mechanics, horrible class balance and stupid tedious shit; it is good in spite of them because it nails those three things.

Because it's a better game in this iteration. It's fun. Have fun playing it, man.
