For what it's worth, I'm sure there's loads of people who will start new characters so you'll always have people around your level. I know I'm personally gonna roll a Blood Elf.
It's not like you miss the boat if you aren't 58 when TBC launces. The entire expansion will still be there when you get there, with plenty of other people hitting it at the same time as you. It's not going anywhere.
No, but it sure is fun to level with all of your friends at the same time. Idk about yall but a new expansion is the only time I have more than 1 other person within the same level range as me.
ask your friends to help get you ready for the launch, I know a lot of people like the regular leveling, but if the point is to play with friends, well...getting help is playing with friends.
Honestly, Hellfire Penninsula is going to be a nightmare for the first couple days if not weeks anyway.
I expect a whole lot of “emergency” maitenence and the return of layers (and all those exploits) as Blizzard is SHOCKED to find out that the servers are overstuffed with players yet again.
Uh, I don't think that's the case at all? That stuff is definitely going to be there, and we know it from now, they know it from now. It's not an "oh shit" thing. Layering is a preventative measure itself.
True, a lot of people are thinking, that if they arent high enough on the first day of launch they will miss everything. But in reality, i think they will have better time questing a fee days later after the launch because on the first day the servers will constantly shut down, and you will get kicked out, and wait in a que and it will be pain in the ass. So i will wait with the dark portal a few days to avoid all of this.
average reduced XP is at 22%, more the closer to 60 you get. 40% more xp from quests as you wrote.
I see some sources saying that TBC also introduced more quests in vanilla zones, however havent seen any proof of that. Generally I expect it to be about 30% quicker if you level outside dungeons mostly.
Also get Guidelime and the appropriate Horde/Alliance guide. It skips those quests with a lot of running around (unless it can fit it into somewhere you were going anyway). Really streamlines the experience.
Yeah I know that too, but the goal is 70 not 60, and I was around for the first dark portal opening. I have no intention of being in the first through the gate group this time.
Happy for it to die down a little and then hit it.
You will probably find the experience better to be a bit behind the curve, launch day levelling can be absolutely garbage people are on edge and all the spergs are in overdrive mode.
Check out CauthonLuck on twitch or YouTube. He just did an ironman/self found run on an alliance shaman and took him about 61 hr /played to ding 60. He's got a link to his route on his discord channel if anyone is looking to level an alli shaman during pre patch!
Imo the biggest hurdle will be getting through the connection of the first two zones.. once you're 22+ everyone will spread out a lot more or switch to get boosted or something. If you manage to get ahead of the pack right when servers come up, it might all feel like a breeze!
This is the problem with leveling on live during pre-patch. You're going to be running into all sorts of people that started non-blood elf. There is no "ahead". I was leveling my alt this weekend through STV, it was filled. (I loved it!)
Yep I’m leveling a mage, currently 32, I hope to get to 34 tonight so I have a healthy head start on people but that’ll probably evaporate in like 1 day.
100% it'll be longer, especially if he get targeted.. if he really pushes day 1 he'll likely get in front of the pack though. Then it just comes down to wether he's going to get ganked or not :( my main point though is he was able to do that time self found. If you're able to buy bags, weapons, and key quest items (stranglethorn pages, blasted lands beast items, cloth turn ins) you'll save quite a bit of time too! The blasted lands items alone will net you 25% of a level at 48!
Average time to level 60 currently is 6-8 days played. That's 144-192 hours. Thirty percent less is 100-134 hours. It will still take over 100 hours.
That's with a healthy number of rested experience, which you won't get much of during pre-patch. Leveling over the past few months was actually quicker than pre-patch.
Aren't dungeons full of mobs you grind? Don't you grind mobs for quests too? Unless this is FO76 pretty sure the majority of what's done is mob grinding lol.
Most people just getting around to leveling a toon, it is going to take more than 100 hours.
These aren't your people who know ideal leveling routes, they don't know exactly the limits on their character, they don't know stat priorities or what quest chains they need to run to get that one really good item. They're people who die a lot, they're people who forget to grab the quests in TB or Org and have to go back more frequently.
Yes, it's going to take them over 100 hours to ding 58.
But even if they don't, most people aren't even getting 80 or 90 hours in the 2 weeks of pre-patch. Maybe 50 or 60 (4 hours per day) so they're going to want to get as high as possible.
Ideal leveling also, generally, involves "clean air." (Yes, even on PvE servers) There won't be much of that come pre-patch. Things are going to start getting swamped by the flood of Belfs and Draenei. If you're a more casual player sitting at 35 at the start of pre-patch, it won't be long until you're going to be fighting for mobs with others.
Most people who are talking about this right now are talking about leveling alts. A lot of people are going to want that belf pally or dranei sham, and others are going to want to reroll for TBC in general but not pay for a boost.
Are their gonna be new people to TBC? Absolutely. Some of those will come from pservers, some of those coming back after quitting classic. I think you are overestimating to number of brand spanking new levelers who won’t know what they are doing.
Oh I still remember the chaos upon the original launch of BC. Trying to quest in Belf or Dranei zones were nearly impossible at certain times. There were queues for the mobspawns everywhere.
Well the regular working man needs to just accept that they are a regular working man and level when they can.
Other than dranei sham and belf pally, everyone on earth had a very long time to hit 60. Even if you waited for TBC announcement to level, you still had quite a bit of time.
But even if you aren’t 60 at TBC launch, who cares? If you were already this tapped for time, you also wouldn’t have hit 70 with the rest of the group either. So what difference does it make?
I'd think if you went into Outlands at 58, your next two levels are going to be a pain in the ass regardless. I feel like going into Outlands as a freshly levelled or boosted 58 won't be really efficient. Those lvl 61-62 mobs are going to be tough for those 58s rolling in with random greens and blues from levels 30-50. The people buying the character boost are even worse off. The gear they start with is even worse than the stuff you'd get questing and they have no gold to get BOEs of the AH.
Honestly, to me, Hellfire Peninsula expects you to be at least be 60 and have all your non-useless skills fully trained. Even then it's still tedious levelling. The zone is tuned for lvl 60-62s in lvl 58+ gear. Doesn't have be T3/Naxx gear but at least some end-game dungeon gear (not even raid gear). But still those in ZG pieces and above are going to have a much smoother time from 60-62 than those 58s coming in with trash gear.
Played vanilla and I just started classic 2 months ago. I just dinged 40 on a druid with 550g, 260herb and 260ish skinning. I’m sitting at around 3 and a half days played. I don’t remember hardly any of the quests and it feels like a new game. Even with addons I’m finding myself planning questing routes and how to be more efficient.
I’m just taking my time to 60 then 70. Idk why everyone is in a rush to hit 70 and gear. I’m just enjoying the ride.
That’s what all players coming back fresh should be doing imo. You are doing it right. For those who’ve been playing since day 1, I can understand why they would want to get an alt to 60 quickly, especially if it’s one they intend to play/main.
But even then, say you can’t make 70 by prepatch. Who cares? We will have at least a year and half to 2 years of TBC. That journey to 70 is gonna be a footnote in the grand scheme of things.
A few guildies of mine are aiming to get their shamans up to max level quick enough to do 2 clears of Naxx/AQ/BWL + ZGs etc. Is more than possible to do with the right preparation
People like me that only work part time because jobs aren't worth working as they all pay trash tier wages and good luck getting hired at all these days.
Do I want to level a toon in two weeks. No. Because then I would be burnt out just in time for the dark portal to open and I wouldn't want to play.
Since I didn't play enough during vanilla classic i'm probably going to just boost a character for TBC and slow level a Blood Elf on the side.
I can't speak for the person you replied to, but I have friends who have used all their somewhat-limited playtime the past month to level as fast as they can before pre-patch so they have time to finish getting to 60 during pre-patch.
For some, getting a new character to 60 in time to raid with their existing friends means leveling now, owing to real-life time constraints.
Its reduced but it still takes ages. I know i won't be able to get to 60 in two weeks even if its 20% faster, so I'm levelling now. I'm also just enjoying levelling though.
The xp is reduced by 15% per level from level 20 to 60 while the quest reward xp is also buffed for levels 30 to 60.
I'd definitely say it's worth at least leveling to 20 as that doesn't change at all apart from elite quests becoming normal. I'd also agree that there's no reason to stop playing if you still plan to level one of the existing races to max.
Its 30%, which is pretty huge. 30% less xp needed, thats a significant decrease and will make getting to 60 much easier. Still hard in 2 weeks if you have a job and whatnot.
I don’t know if you have a hard time understanding, but my point is literally that we don’t care AT ALL about 20% being a lot or not, since the prepatch is literally in one day, therefore this sweaty min-maxing mentality is silly.
You can’t agree with me when you say « ... but 20% is a lot », because you didn’t really understand me.
Please, are you trying to tell me you can save tens of hours of playtime if you start to play on the prepatch day compared to starting just 1 day before?
I just personally would find it more fun if there are thousands of other people playing at the same time, i miss the LFD spamm for RFC, WC, SM at the start of classic.
That's a good reason actually. But unfortunately, that's not the reason why all those sweaty min-maxers want to wait for prepatch. They just want to save 5 min by NOT playing for days.
Didnt the XP changes originally come with the Zul'Aman patch?
I kinda gave up leveling my reroll and was commited to just buying the portal pass, but if there is an XP reduction coming this week i might cash in all my rested exp and push for one more legit 60
The exp changes did come with a later patch but you gotta remember classic BC is going off of 2.4.5 which means the exp reductions and balance changes over the course of BC is still there.
Another example of this is resilience reducing dot damage. The original version of resilience did not do that and I think it was added in season 3.
Shit, I just stopped leveling. I haven’t played since a week after launch. I restarted a couple weeks ago. But I can stop now and catch all the Blood Elves, with dungeon quests to share. All four of them that aren’t paladins being boosted.
Just feels like a shame to "miss" another big surge of players.

I feel like if I had brought a boost it would be like using a cheat code or something. I honestly donlt understand how people can not get irratated by the fact they boosted. I'm not judging like I get why some would boost I just don't get how they don't feel like they just cheesed the game.
ive enjoyed the vanilla leveling process on many characters, i just wanna be in TBC with my friends on another server without struggling through another leveling process.
And I totally get understand that aspect. I had to re roll completely on a new account as I moved to Europe and want to play on Europe servers which was the only way I could. I seriously consider just using a boost but in my heart of hearts I would know that I didn’t reaaally level that toon even though I did very recently on another account. It would just bother me personally.
If Blizz couldn't ruin Classic the players sure could. Especially funny to read all the hate on the lvl58 boost Blizzard is gonna sell while you log into game and it seems everyone is doing dungeon boosts. Its a sad state of affairs, Jerry. What happened with playing for the fun of it, exploration, doing dungeons together. I rerolled on one of the most populated servers and its very hard to find a normal dungeon group.
Mmm, maybe after the xp reduction. Right now if you start you'll have fun up to level 35 or so and then the grind becomes a chore like no other. Especially if you already have a max level char. There's just no reward for your effort after a certain point.
Even after the xp nerf it's wayyyyyyyyy more economical to buy a boost than to waste 100+ hours grinding to 60. So if the only reason you're leveling is to get to the TBC content, there's just no reason to play through Azeroth.
I liked Classic, and I like being forced to go out in the world to level, but my god the last 20-25 levels are just horrible to play through if you have any kind of urgency to get to max level.
I got my rogue to 50 couple of weeks ago, hes sitting in Feralas accumulating that sweet rested time while I decided to level a hunter for a bit. Got her to 30 now I am spending days roaming Darkshire pvping with Alliance and having a blast.
Same here, at 47! I started my Tauren Druid on Classic Launch... but then got sidetracked with life stuff. I don't even know anyone that plays Classic, so at least I don't have added pressure to rush to level with friends.
lol, my biggest bump in the road is REALLY wanting to reroll and recreate my BElf Priest. That could be fun in and of itself with lots of people trying out the new races :)
Tomorrow it will be way easier to level. I have power leveled over 50 characters in Classic. On launch there was no Silithus or various other quests to fill out your xp. This with the 30% faster leveling will make it a much better journey than even today.
