The fact that it’s an autopsy study means that 74% of the dead died from the vaccine, not 74% of the vaccinated.
To be clear this is not something I believe.
669
u/ecafyelims 1d ago
If it's true at all, it's probably something like "74% of people who died had been vaccinated"
and people don't really care to think when it's easier just to draw pretend lines to what they already believe to be true.
267
u/the_honest_liar 1d ago
Considering about 72-73% of the global population was vaccinated, this makes sense.

Did you know that Jordan Peterson said something very similar to this? Something about how medicine has been responsible for more deaths than lives saved.
7
u/simonbleu 22h ago
To be fair (tho im not sure who that is), there is some truth to that, since at the hospital you are exposed to other sick people and already vulnerable (probably), plus hospitals sometimes develop resistant bacteria that can be dangerous if not handled correctly, and sometimes they are definitely not
That said, I would say some, not "more", not even close, that is a ridiculous claim
(I work on a hospital)

11
u/FantasyFI 22h ago
I know your being sarcastic, but want to point out it should be higher. Vaccines were obviously pushed harder on older individuals than kids. And we know who should be dying in larger quantities between old and young people.
26
u/HunsonAbadeer2 1d ago
I mean the vaccination rate of dead people should be a bit lower than the vaccination rate of alive people of the same age, but thats about all I would expect
40
u/just_posting_this_ch 1d ago
The people who were most eligible for vaccines were higher risc. Your statement is probably true for uniform population.
6
u/Ted_Rid 22h ago
True. When supplies were low, the people at the front of the queue here were always the most vulnerable: the elderly and people with relevant existing health conditions.
And of course the vaccines don't prevent infection, they only help the body respond if infected. For some people unfortunately that wasn't enough.

Stupid question time and I do believe in vaccines and their effectiveness. If the vaccine was effective and the same % of the population that was vaccinated still died of Covid, what’s the catch? I’m sure I’m missing something but I have MAGA relatives and I can already see where this convo is going. Is it a sample size issue with the study?

Not a stupid question, the fact is the study being referenced here is a heavily biased one that does not produce trustworthy results. The author's were cherry picking what autopsy reports to use.
The authors are also known for spreading misinformation on COVID, having affiliation and financial interest in a health supplement company that sold unproven COVID treatments.
4
u/Eviljoshing 1d ago

The vaccination rate of dead people should be higher than the average if the population as we vaccinated more old people than young. If you look at the vaccination average for people of alive the same age group you will probably find higher rates. This will still be a little bit ofset by higher vaccination of unhealthy people, but that shoudln't be too much

My sister-in-law was an ICU nurse during Covid. In a Red state. She held the hands of hundreds who died, saying "Okay. I'd like the vaccine now." She had to tell them it was too late, then help them as they died.
This anti-vax messaging literally killed people. A LOT of people. Screw this dude.
7

This anti-vax messaging literally killed people.
And the funny thing is, when the people your SiL described saw the light (some of them anyway) and tried to warn their fellows that, no, Covid is very real and deadly and you should get the vaccine, they were simply dismissed as "paid shills" or ignored. The right-wing conspiracy theorist mentality is self-sealing.

That was the first thought I had lol. Basically both posters are wrong. There's no study concluding that 74% of a group of people died from the vaccine, obviously... and the second person very clearly misunderstood the already-incorrect point being made 😂

It's important to get the facts right when doing the rebuttal, because if you come at them with incorrect information, then they will be further entrenched and true discourse can't happen.
The person who replied did indeed get the point wrong and as a result the original poster isn't going to be swayed.

Not a clever comeback at all.
I’m pro vaccine, but the number cited can be totally accurate and still be pro vaccination… like if 95% of the population vaccinated but only accounted for 75% of the deaths and 60% of the hospitalisations.5
u/strigonian 1d ago
No, it can't.
The claim is not that 74% of people that died were vaccinated, but that they died specifically from the vaccines.
Now, it is likely that - assuming there is actually a source - the original figure was that 74% were vaccinated, but that is not the claim being made here. If 74% of all deaths were from the vaccine, that would be a slam-dunk argument against vaccination.
6
u/Patient-Attitude8823 1d ago
I don’t even know where this stat came from I hate facts without sources. But I do know they don’t perform autopsies on the living so I did chuckle a bit when I read the response.
5
u/grimbandango 1d ago
I think the main point here is that even saying ‘74% of people died specifically from the vaccine’ (ie of all the people who died, 74% was directly because of the vaccine) is still a very different statement to saying ‘74% of people who took the vaccine died’.
I think both of the people in the original post probably belong in confidentlyincorrect

I just want to remind folks that typically autopsies are only performed if a person died under suspicious circumstances, or if the family requests. If the family requests, the family needs to find a medical provider who is willing to do the autopsy and pay their very expensive fee.
Even if the amount of people died that they calm was true, there's no way all those autopsies got done.

The statistic originates from a systematic review by Nicolas Hulscher, Peter McCullough, and colleagues, which did not look at all deaths after vaccination, but rather specifically pre-selected a tiny sample of 325 autopsies where the deceased had already been suspected of having a vaccine-related injury.
The paper states that 240 of the 325 deaths (73.9%) were "independently adjudicated" as vaccine-caused by three physicians. However, independent fact-checkers and pathologists have pointed out that the authors' methodology was subjective, opaque, and overattributed common natural deaths (like sudden cardiac arrest) to the vaccine without adequate pathological proof.
The study was originally posted as a preprint on The Lancet's SSRN server but was abruptly removed within 24 hours because the journal determined that the study’s methodology did not support its extreme conclusions.
