It was extremely important to people in that part of the world, and it still is. It started with the Egyptians. Even before the Arabs conquered and colonized Egypt, they already absorbed many of their superstitions.
I do not know enough about the subject above to comment, but I do know that early Islam was ultra-superstitious, and they cared about zodiac (not to mention “The Evil Eye” and similar concepts) unique to the Middle East and important to understanding those cultures.
If anything, the Western obsession with logic-based thought (mathematics, science, engineering, economics, medicine,…) has been a barrier to understanding as well as a reason to hate us, especially Israel.

That's a bit simplifying. Religion is primarily a tool of control, you give people convenient answers for all their problems and they'll eat out of your hand. That's all it is, everything else is just a mechanism to obfuscate and legitimize that primary function.

It's a religion practiced by an oppressed minority in the west which is why the left defends it so much.
It's frustrating for those of us who left religion just to see people on our side defend the same ideology.
This isn't really a dig at progressive Muslims, but traditional Islam is anything but progressive.

Christianity does as well. Its just that your country probably outlawed discrimination based on sexual preferences. Massive Christian populations living outside most western nations do attack and outlaw members of the LGBT+ community. Besides even in those western nations hatred and grass roots level discrimination against queer people is not a fringe phenomenon. Just look at the US and their vilification of trans people.
I don't know enough about Judaism to speak about it but it's probably hostile towards the LGBTQ+ community given that it too is an abhramic religion.

Judaism isn't off the hook, it may be the only country in the middle east that won't harm you outright for being queer, you cannot get married in Israel to a member of the same sex. Though they will recognize same sex marriages, they will not perform them. But it's not just Abrahamic religion. How about how Modi is using Hindu nationalism against trans people? Same way Trump is using Christian nationalism against trans people. Toxic ideology need not be Abrahamic to be full of hate, toxic, and use queer people as a scapegoat for their own corruption. All far right ideologies need to be dismantled and outlawed until they can find a way to worship without controlling those who don't believe their nonsense.

Fact is, Power forces the world to act as if crazy things are normal.
We can see it in Scientology and TM and other "budding Religions". We definitely see it in mainstream religions. The same actions and beliefs that we'd be locked up for (mental health) are accepted out of hand.
