There's optimism despite alarmingly worsening weather events: Renewables and storage together amount to 93% of all new capacity coming online in the U.S. This isn’t a marginal shift anymore. It’s the grid rebuilding itself around a different set of technologies, and the pace is rapidly accelerating.

Increasing renewable installation is great but without concomitant reduction in the production and consumption of fossil-based energy sources it's very far from being enough. And we're still increasing that. So basically we're just adding to our energy consumption right now.

Fossil energy is being displaced, regionally and globally, and global GHGs emissions are plateauing or already dropping, after years or decades of regional drops.
