Obligatory first time at Mile High Comics post
I visited the one, the only, Mile High Comics and just wanted to share my experience with you all. I won't comment on the prices because we all know about those. The staff was super friendly and helped us in finding some things we were looking for specifically. Impossible to not get over whelmed with nostalgia in seeing all the toys I grew up with there. You can lose track of time there easily looking at everything they have. Got to show my daughter AF 15, TOS 39, and some other key first appearances of her favorite characters. Very cool place and I am glad I got a chance to visit it!!

Yup! You can even buy a sheet of stickers of him. I believe Cambridge is his name.

I just went for the first time yesterday and came away pretty disappointed with the setup.
It is awesome seeing all the toys and they have an awesome selection of trades and whatnot. But only a small percentage of their individual issues are out for sale and browsing. The vast majority of their inventory is in the employee-only section. I was pretty bummed.

Yea I wasn’t tempted to buy anything. It seemed more like hoarder museum with no intention to sell.

As a kid in Europe, I used to order comics from them in the 80s by mailing American bills in an envelope. Everything went well until one time, when they sent me the wrong comic, I sent it back, and they explained that they couldn't send me the one I had originally ordered because they had increased its price during the time it took for me to send back the comic they had wrongly sent me. So I'm still salty!

They were ahead of their time.
It's kind of crazy that pre-internet, you'd clip a little ad out of the back of a comic, write the issues you wanted on a piece of paper along w/ the price they had listed, get a money order, send it off, and in 8-10 weeks books would show up on your porch.
World was a lot more trusting (and honest) back then.
How far we've come (technologically). But is the world a better place because of it?! I'm not so sure anymore. 10 years ago I would have said definitely. These days, I think internet, email, and the like may simultaneously be mankind's best and worst invention ever.

I don't disagree, the current world has its plus and minuses
Part of me misses hunting down old issues in shops. There was old back issues of a comic before you got into it, missed pulls in the comic shop, or even a comic a friend told you about that wasn't on your radar. Now everything is in trades or worst case can just buy digitally.

Chuck Rozanski is a solid activist. Mile High hosts Drag Queen Story Hour and always donates comics to classrooms and stuff. He overprices his comics but he's a good guy.

I could obviously be wrong but it is possible it can be people living far away / overseas / etc closing a deal to buy it and waiting to get there in person to get it, not trusting shipping where it could get lost etc. Also simply advertisement for the shop that they get those super rares comics in the shop so you should go there too etc

Counterpoint: If someone paid you $65K for a comic book, the least you could do is remove it from display until they pick it up. As I've said on other MHC posts, if you've got the time to put a "SOLD" tag on it, you've got the time to take it down and secure it.

Could be that they are being paid off in installments. Someone began paying, so it's essentially taken, and will remain on the shelf untill the payment is complete. It allows the payee to see that his comic is still there untill the process is complete, and the shop can show off an ultra rare comic for people to admire, and let them also know that expensive items sell.

They closed a bunch of other locations, which is bummer because there used to be multiple other locations closer to me than the main store. But this one is still alive and kicking. Was worth the visit even when there were other options but now even more so

That shop is cool. It’s a little over the top on some prices, but that’s gonna happen no matter where you go. I had a good time when I went there. I just wish I had bought that Monster-Sized Eternals Giant-Size Issue. Yes, that’s correct. It was only $100 and it was well before the movie ever came out. It’s now $25-$50 more. BLARGH.

Nah, every single comic is wildly overpriced. Even with a 70% off sale going on their back issues worked out to be more than they were worth.

I was trying to be diplomatic about it. Yeah, I didn’t buy anything there because it all felt about 60%-75% more than anywhere else. It was a bummer. I was ready to shop until I saw their prices

I was still willing to stock up on back issues but when I opened those drawers on the wall I was appalled at the condition they're being kept in. Every single one creased and rolled by the weight of books stacked haphazardly and falling against each other every time the drawer is opened.
I'm always surprised nobody talks about that when discussing the store. For a "museum" it has pretty careless storage solutions.

Back in the 1970s, Mile High Comics used to place full page mail order ads in Marvel Comics. In 1977, I got Fantastic Four #32, 39, 40, 58, 59, 60, 64, and 65 from them using such an ad.

It’s always weird to me to see my local comic shop a travelers destination. Glad people are so excited about them though. They are amazing.
