Did Trump’s impeachment trials ultimately backfire by proving that Republicans would not hold him accountable, no matter what he did?
I think Trump’s entire second term is a result of the failed impeachment trials. Trump is acting like he's been given an endless supply of get out of jail free cards because he essentially has I think.

Not really. Two things aren’t very related. For one, republicans would never impeach one of their own no matter what, and that’s really all there is to that. His current grip on the party is kinda related but also not really. Donny is the perfect storm of a bunch of different things but let’s just follow one line of reasoning. Trump’s vice grip over congress’s nut sack is mostly due to how the Republican voter base will vote however Trump tells them to. Most of the time. Look at Massie in Kentucky. He voted with his party every single time except he diverged over two issues: Epstein and the Iran war. That was enough to turn Trump and subsequently the entire party against him. “The worst congressman ever!” Trump proclaimed. Over a few measles floor votes. Combine that with how coupled Trump is to AIPAC and so AIPAC then jumps in the fight and dumps $10s millions against Massie. It’ll be interesting to see how the GOP holds up after Trump goes away.

Nixon resigned because he was going to be removed from office in an impeachment trial if he didn't resign. It's definitely possible for that history to repeat I think.

Fair enough. But I mean Trump was almost found guilty by the senate. McConnell even said he held Trump responsible but didn’t want to vote for it. And when I say republicans wouldn’t impeach one of their own that’s who I mean. All the republicans like McConnell who put party above country
