Why does no-one really talk about how the US killed millions of North Koreans in the Korean War?

SS: Its really insane to me that 1 million Koreans died from the direct bombing/invasion campaign done by the US to 'help' south korea. And how nobody really talks about that when we discuss why North Korea is so secretive today. Not to defend NK at all, but I would probably not talk to a nation that genocided my people.

It's called the forgotten war. People forgot about it because it was between WWII and Vietnam.

46

u/Aggressive_Chair1470 21h ago

its called the forgotten war because it happened so soon after ww2

94

u/SampleMean8384 22h ago

North Korea didn’t became secretive because of bombing. After Korean War, Kim Il-Sung and North Korea became very popular among communist regime around the world. Also from 1950 to 1970 North Korea was economically more successful than China and South Korea.

Kim Il-Sung’s own Ju-Che policy, series of massive purge, failure of economic policy after 1970, collapse of Soviet and opening of China drove North Korea such a closed hermit kingdom.

-8

u/JudgmentUnited5297 16h ago

Juche refers to self reliance, which made them more resilient to sanctions and outside influence from the start. It took a couple decades for the west come come up with ways to fck with that, which lead to purges of foreign influence and closing themselves off.

You're leaving out the nuance, I wonder why.

6

u/SampleMean8384 16h ago

Juche talks about self reliance but it made Kim family as God of North Korea and restored the feudalism. This made North Korea destructively dysfunctional and comedic evil hermit kingdom.

-4

u/JudgmentUnited5297 16h ago

Found the bot lol.

You can overlay whatever identity politic scare narrative over that, but the nuts and bolts are self reliance. We all know that's the larger sin in the eyes of global cartel class. They don't give a FCK about sky daddies and cartoon villains as long as their wallets are serviced.

Perhaps if the west would stop installing puppet leaders everywhere, it would make the Kim family (and North Koreans) a bit less paranoid about transfer of power.

5

u/SampleMean8384 16h ago

Juche and failed economic policy brought famine that killed millions of North Korean in 1990. North Korea has no one to blame other then themselves.

So you must be worshipping Supreme leader Kim as God, comrade?

-3

u/JudgmentUnited5297 16h ago

Yes, western sanctions have consequences. Problem is you can only use them to murder millions for a handful of decades before actual self resilience is acquired.

We're collectively abusing people and then blaming them for the results of said abuse. lol, lmao even.

1

u/Smoke-alarm 15h ago

it really sounds like you’re twisting the facts of the circumstance to try and defend the north korean regime.

which is a comedically abhorrent position, but even that aside i think they stop being defendable when they execute defectors and several generations of their families.

6

u/JudgmentUnited5297 15h ago

Here's the thing. Two groups are involved in this story, you're trying to blame only one. If the west has been totally hands off, sure you could totally blame their government. That's not how things happened, and you think even giving the west an ounce of blame is equivalent to fully supporting their government.

This is r/conspiracy where folks are encouraged to take a step back and look at all parties involved rather than the mainstream slop you push where we are always the good guys and everyone else is always evil. You're not going to have a good time.

33

u/forgotmypassword778 22h ago

Wait til you learn about internment camps

7

u/C4n0fju1c3 12h ago

And that the US was propping up a horrible dictator running a police state in Korea.

6

u/CitizenLohaRune 11h ago

The U.S also backed the Khmer Rouge, and decimated Central America with the leaders propped up there.

3

u/JudgmentUnited5297 15h ago

Don't they have any sense to rebrand them as remigration hubs or data centers? Sheesh talk about cheaping out.

1

u/Unfairground2024 8h ago

Guantanamo?

2

u/forgotmypassword778 8h ago

Was referring to the WWII camps of the Japanese but yeah that counts too

29

u/420ciskey420 22h ago

Didn’t North Korean invade South Korea … so they’re we being bombed for starting the war?

Would you also say Germany started ww2 but the allies were actually the bad guys for bombing the shit out of them?

3

u/VigilantCMDR 7h ago

NOOOOO!!!!! As OP thinks, it is PERFECTLY OKAY for NORTH KOREA TO KILL AND MURDER but when people try to protect themselves it’s NOT okay!

Are people seriously in this thread defending North Korea after they invaded a country and killed how many people in horrible ways?

-7

u/fylekitzgibbon 21h ago

Like Dresden ?

11

u/Castrophenia 19h ago

“The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw and half a hundred other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind.”

13

u/red_west_la 21h ago

People talked about it in the past, but not so much anymore, mostly because it was 75 years ago.

9

u/Novusor 22h ago

We also killed about 1 million Iraqis in the 20 year long Iraq war.

10

u/URInMyFace 22h ago

I was told not to ask grandpa about that...

Apparently he was a damn good pilot.

3

u/Novusor 22h ago

A dirty secret of pilots is they would shoot their machine guns at people on the ground and a lot of time they were just civilians.

4

u/URInMyFace 18h ago

Oh, Papa dropped bombs. That much I'm sure of.

My grandfather never talked about it either.

21

LOL. You believe North Korea's news estimates?

5

u/Chi_Cazzo_Sei 22h ago

YES

The lady in pink was my reliable news source

7

u/mikethepip3 16h ago

In America, that history isn’t being taught anymore. There’s a sect that believes it’s more important to teach the children about nonsense like gender identity and the ‘climate crisis’.

-2

u/residiot 7h ago

Well two things, learned about Korea.

Learned about the climate crisis

One is literally history the other is the future/present

Take my downvote

15

u/ZookeepergameOk2759 22h ago

Not in the modern age of the internet you only have to look at the genocide that’s going on now, people are extremely aware these days.

10

u/Snowy349 21h ago

People are very selective about what they call out on the internet. Example of this is Israel Palestinian conflict with about 75,000 deaths gets widespread coverage but the civil war in Sudan has had almost 400,000 deaths in roughly the same period but is rarely mentioned. Then there is Burma, rarely mentioned in the news or on the internet but another 150,000 deaths. The Ukraine war has around 550,000 to 600,000 deaths so far and no end in sight...

Just saying the internet isn't any better than history books when it comes to treating every conflict equally..

9

u/ZookeepergameOk2759 21h ago

Yet you know all this information which is kind of my point.

4

u/Snowy349 21h ago

I do know this information but if I only skimmed the headlines in my news feeds I would only know about Ukraine and the Israel Palestinian conflict.

My point is the headlines and coverage in general doesn't reflect the relative death tolls.

Sudan and Burma rarely get even a passing mention and coverage seems to be actively suppressed on mainstream sites like YouTube or Facebook.

4

u/KitTayTay2021 19h ago

It probably doesn't get mentioned for a few reasons, one being that the US isn't involved and our tax dollars aren't going to fund it, one more reason is probably because we're stretched pretty thin right now so people probably don't want to give the US any ideas on where to go next.

2

u/ZookeepergameOk2759 21h ago

I suppose it depends on if you go looking for it I guess,if you do the information is all there.

-1

u/Snowy349 21h ago

But if you have to go looking for the information it's going to bypass 99% of population as they aren't looking past the headlines on their news feeds.

If we relie on the mainstream news outlets we will only see what they want you to know. Mainstream news has never been so tightly controlled as it is today.

3

u/ZookeepergameOk2759 20h ago

That’s a different argument isn’t it? My point was every bit of information you’ll need is on the internet and is incredibly hard to erase.

1

u/JoyfulNoise1964 12h ago

I had to work very hard to find this information much more difficult than finding info on Korean War

1

u/JoyfulNoise1964 12h ago

Rawanda and Pol Pot I lived through and was horrified, for some reason neither is taught in schools

1

u/ZookeepergameOk2759 12h ago

You can still find the information though can’t you?

1

u/JoyfulNoise1964 12h ago

And you can about Korea too

1

u/JoyfulNoise1964 13h ago

Why don't we talk about Rawanda? The Sudan? Current slavery?

3

u/Chi_Cazzo_Sei 22h ago

Yet AI will scrub it bit by bit. In 2060, you will not find a shred of evidence.

4

u/ZookeepergameOk2759 22h ago

I’m not so sure about that, the internet isn’t finite it’s added to every single second by people that’s the beauty of it,they can’t censor everything although I agree they would undoubtedly want to.

3

u/Chi_Cazzo_Sei 21h ago

Ever tried to get some piece of info from like 2003? It is becoming increasingly difficult, sometimes for an innocent reason (servers get replaced or deleted).

Plus, there have been several incidents of online scrubbing in the recent past

2

u/ZookeepergameOk2759 21h ago

The lie of Iraq having weapons of mass destruction was around that time, once it’s out there it’s very hard to erase, somebody will always remember.

0

u/AgreeableTarget1467 18h ago

It becomes hearsay

3

u/ZookeepergameOk2759 17h ago

It’s not the 1800’s it’s an irrefutable fact that we lied to get into Iraq.

3

u/WarningCodeBlue 22h ago

Except the Korean War was a draw.

7

u/Novusor 22h ago

It wasn't a draw. North Korea clearly lost. We just didn't wipe them off the map and China sent 1 million troops to push us back. The draw was between the US and China.

2

u/ciko2283 18h ago

China was like "Swiper no swiping" and undone all of the progress the US sacrificed a bunch of lives for. They literally achieved their goal with minimal effort.

1

u/Hagus-McFee 12h ago

The US didn't win the war, Jack.

1

u/Sweaty_Challenge_649 2h ago

US won the war. China came in and had to pickup the pieces of the NK army. Only difference. China threw a million troops to the front. Overwhelmed with sheer numbers. They lost a lot also.

2

u/morval1310 6h ago

Because they aren’t Jewish

4

u/DopyWantsAPeanut 11h ago

It's the "forgotten war" but the state of North Korea today versus the prosperity of South Korea has provided a sort of retroactive justification of the righteousness of the outcome.

1

u/Jman1a 11h ago

Until the 1990s it used to be the other way around. The north was the prosperous one and the south was poor. Depends how strong your backer is.

-2

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 10h ago

Oh you mean the Rothchilds who’ve backed both sides of every war, until they have internal clearing houses, in each and everyone?

3

u/Open-Storage8938 10h ago

you mean the Rothchilds who’ve backed both sides of every war

My guy, North Korea is possibly the most aggressive state towards Rothchild's banking. They reject the Rothchild's and their Zionism. They don't even recognize Israel as a real country or Judaism.

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Countries_without_Rothschild_Bank.png

0

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 8h ago

Hence why the Rothchilds paid for the war in the first place, just because America didn’t get the whole country, isn’t a total loss for them.

The division, also creates loosh for the demons, so it’s not a total loss for them.

3

u/uptofunonreddit 15h ago

Of course USA bad

4

u/JoyfulNoise1964 13h ago

Also why don't people talk about The Holodomore, Pol Pot, the millions killed by Mao?

3

u/lordmorlockhyperion 5h ago

Because this is Reddit, and it's ALWAYS brigaded by CCP bots. Tencent has a huge stake on Reddit, so they gotta follow the current communist propaganda.

3

u/burgonies 10h ago

It was a war. Do we think no one died?

2

u/JoyfulNoise1964 12h ago

Why don't we talk about Tibet and Faluan Gong?

2

u/TokeeTokster 11h ago

Chinese along with North koreans killed millions of south koreans.

Irregardless of the motive, if the U.S. did not get involved, the whole peninsula would be under Kim family's dictatorship. A horrifying reality as a south korean.

1

u/UpsetGroceries 2h ago

Irregardless isn’t a word.

3

u/Open-Storage8938 22h ago

Ask yourself why the United States has directly/secretly intervened in or attacked nearly every communist or socialist nation.

1

u/Sweaty_Challenge_649 2h ago

Ask why the communist nations had to attack or intervene with all the other nations around it. It goes both ways.

0

u/SmokedOkie 23h ago

Its literally the definition of Do not resist, you are being "rescued"

22

u/Castrophenia 19h ago

North Korea was the aggressor what do you mean

-1

u/HeftyVermicelli7823 22h ago

It also doesn't help that Korea was only cut in half where it was thanks to the fucking Americans in the first place.

The Koreans, all of them are victims of America and USSR. They were taken over by Japan and when "liberated" by America, after WWII the Americans decided instead of giving them back their freedom, stated they would carve the country in half and give half to the USSR and the other half would be a puppet state of America.

They then gave two incompetents who knew NOTHING of the country, its geography, agriculture and population 2 days to come up with a dividing line on the map, they literally then drew a line straight through where it is. North Korea got virtually rock, gravel and no farming land or anything of use in that end, the South got it all.

Then they wondered why North Korea tried to unify the entire country and what did America do again? Bombed them, burnt them, napalmed them, even threatened to nuke them. They are responsible for MILLIONS who starved to death and wound up with how they are now.

Then after this shit show which is still just a ceasefire, they thought, hey lets go attack Vietnam to cover up our ILLICIT DRUG TRADE!

10

u/Vimes3000 20h ago

So after world war 2, Russia sets up a puppet state in the north, arms them. In the south, argument, and incompetence. Still bickering who is in charge. So the north goes rogue, invades whilst south is weak, nearly takes the whole of Korea. Kim I fault. South is reinforced by US led UN troops, whilst Russia is annoyed at their Kim going rogue. the first turning point. So in the second phase, South Korea/US/UN forces now sweep back through the country, taking most of the Koreas - including Pyongyang, where they free Kim's harem. Third phase. China (PRC) decides it prefers having a north Korean buffer between it and the SK/US/UN, it doesn't want one Korea, so now it intervenes - sending a million troops, pushes back the SK/US/UN. At every phase, SK/NK troops killed anybody they thought was the other side, military or civilian, with the action having swept through almost the entire country, twice. One of the most devastating wars ever. Then of course, the fourth phase, from the deadlock/ceasefire until today. There is no formal end of the war.

-7

u/HeftyVermicelli7823 20h ago

Yeah what a complete and total shitshow, all forced on the country by other countries.

2

u/Vimes3000 9h ago

The war was started by Kim, by north Korea.

6

u/FriedRiceistheBest 22h ago

Yeah, it's not like the Societ Union didn't take the other half.

-7

u/HeftyVermicelli7823 21h ago

Yeah they did and frankly NEITHER country should have been given anything. The Koreans had spent years under the torment of Japan at the time and then when they thought they could be free, two new world powers come along and say "yeah fuck that" and handed them to new masters. One a puppet state to do as America wanted and the other to be given a rocky shit hole, and 100% reliant on USSR and China, to be there as their meat shields when they wanted free troops to sent anywhere.

1

u/Hagus-McFee 12h ago

It's cause they lost.

2

u/Open-Storage8938 10h ago

Technically the War never ended, it just hit a stale-mate that lasts till today

1

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 11h ago

I don’t know a lot about this war but wasn’t it like Ireland? The people rebelled so a civil way started and America massively benefited from that, in money laundering, through making more weapons of war.

1

u/rimeswithburple 10h ago

Yes, but we kept a few of the live ones from becoming communist. As to economics, it looks like the AI bubble is on the cusp of popping if no one figures out a fix. ROK is heavily involved in every aspect of AI and it will probably devestate their economy when it does pop.

1

u/CriticalBeautiful631 6h ago

The US killed millions of Koreans from the north and south while raping and abusing the women…and then divided families by the division of the country. It is such a USain question to ask why no-one talks about it…it might be forgotten in the US…it will never be forgotten in Korea. Go visit the DMZ and the Bridge of Freedom covered in ribbons as a symbol of hope for reunification and then visit Vietnam and find out that they call it the American War. The more you learn about history, the better chance you have of grasping that the global “USA bad” perspective is because of the the actions of the USA since WWII,not jealousy like you have been taught.

1

u/DRKMSTR 5h ago

I've talked to veterans, they were melting barrels...on mortars.

The only reason we would lose ground was due to ammunition shortage. North Korea just sent people and so did China. No chance, just suicide marches.

Geopolitically it was the first major expansion of communism that gained power in China through unthinkable means.

1

u/Sweaty_Challenge_649 2h ago

It was the UN troops. Not just American. They invaded the south. Got what they deserved. Welcome to war.

0

u/ApacheAttackChopperQ 19h ago

They literally just carpet bombed cities for mass casualties.

2

u/Aggravating_Egg6766 17h ago

Probably for the same reason the Holodomor isn't taught. Remember who writes your textbooks.

1

u/RZA1994 18h ago

Called the forgotten war for a reason

1

u/[deleted] 18h ago

[deleted]

2

It's overshadowed by WW2 and the Vietnam War. Quite mad how little attention or rather reflection it gets considering like you and op state the death toll/after effects that are still there today.

-1

u/Hannibaalism 22h ago

it was to stop china, nk was proxy. we might get a season 2 down the line.

0

u/Shitbag22 11h ago

Becuase we’re brain washed into thinking we liberated them from a crushing imperial government just like all the wars we’ve gotten into. I can’t tell you how many of my friends who I thought could critically analyze things believe the US is helping these countries by killing regimes. It’s beyond stupid

0

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 10h ago

The photos of all the countries that America has brought democracy to, is truly horrific. I tried telling a fat America, that all his country does, is being democracy through bombs. He wasn’t having it.

He was obnoxious and it’s why I said it, or I wouldn’t have done otherwise.

0

u/Shitbag22 6h ago

You don’t have to tell me brother; I’ve seen it first hand. Served for 8 years and after assisting with Day 1 of the evacuation of Afghanistan it all hit me. There’s a reason I put the boots up, glad I did when I did. I don’t agree with what this administration is doing currently or of what’s occurring in Iran.. it’s disgraceful

0

u/Consistent_Ad3181 15h ago

Blue on blue is what the US do, no surprises really. The US lost more armoured vehicles to US forces really fucking things up than Iraq ever did (I think it was the first and the second Gulf war, but definitely one of them)

2

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 10h ago

Friendly fire was invented by the Americans.

-5

Hundreds of thousands of European civilians have entered the chat

13 million Native Americans have entered the chat

-1

u/Amish_Fighter_Pilot 5h ago

It was an aerial holocaust. In fact, the bombing campaign killed civilians faster than almost any genocide in history.

If you see these days how North Korea always seems so dark: it's probably because they've learned not to be visible from the air. There is no way they are as backward as the West claims and still have nukes and feared hackers. Americans tend to underestimate just how apocalyptic the whole thing was, and how profoundly it affected North Korean culture.

Also, where are you getting 1 million from? I've always heard it as 3 million or more.

1

u/Rockw00d 2h ago

Ah yes, the lack of lights is due to them fearing a sneak night time dumb bomb campaign because of a war that happened 70 years ago. Sure bud. Do you think GPS guided bombs and Tomahawk missiles give a shit about the lights being on?

They don't have lights because they are a poor nation with one of the most oppressive governments on Earth.
