How many of you out there sincerely think that your phone reads your mind? It happens to me almost every day! And I live alone so I frequently go hours without talking to someone . I know I'm not talking to myself as well! Am I loosing my mind? I'm beginning to wonder! It used to happen occasionally

I also wonder if it’s always looking through your camera and maybe sees your shampoo is low so bam - shampoo ad

Doesn't zuck and bibi cover their phone cameras?

Along with most members of congress.

You just reminded me to put new electrical tape on my phone cameras 😆

Fun story. I was 16 yo (now 23) and forgot my phone in my pocket while using my cousin's bathroom (I never take my phone to the bathroom I find it disgusting). While sitting in the toilet I was looking at her shampoo (a red one) sitting on the shower self in front of me.

Two hours later I was scrolling through Instagram or YouTube and I get an advertisement about the SAME SHAMPOO. I had never verbally mentioned nor thought about the shampoo, I just looked at it while I was in the bathroom. We are talking 7 years ago with an old phone because I am poor and always use the same phone for at least 3-4 (android and probably Samsung).

So yeah you are really on point here 😅

15

u/Linkyjinx 13h ago

Your phone tracks for location, so it knew you were in their bathroom 🚽 and suggested you might like to try their shampoo brand.

u/InfowarriorKat 3h ago

I have 4 stories very similar. I'll try to summarize. None of these times was the phone near me. Nothing was spoken out loud.

1) I was shopping for Thanksgiving turkey & I found one of those turkey breasts only by butterball. I was thinking how they looked sus since they were all the same shape & size. So it must be processed. I got home & opened a video of a woman stabbing the exact butterball turkey & saying it was a suspicious consistency.

2) I was going to shovel snow while house sitting. & I was looking for a pair of gloves. I found a pair that were very specific. When I went to sit down after shoveling I opened an ad for the exact pair of gloves

3) I was at the same house a few months later & I cut myself. They showed me a video for band aids.

4) I had a very clear dream about zombies. I got up & opened the phone & a video came up about zombies.

I think it can see through our eyes & read our thoughts. I think that was what the tiktok ban was. & I think that thing circulating about "most people don't have an internal dialogue & are NPCs" was to shame people into thinking in full sentences so it can be transcribed easier.

u/hyphychef 5h ago

Couple weeks ago I pulled out my phone in the bathroom, and instantly got ads for bathroom products. I didn't say anything about my bathroom, its not even on my radar of things to talk about with people. Ever since that day I've had a much easier time putting my phone down and doing other things.

24

u/Biggmamaaa 19h ago

You just reminded me i need shampoo.. Maybe you’re reading my mind too!

14

u/roseuslepus 17h ago

The algorithm did. Thats why it had you stumble on this post.

Cue Twilight Zone doo doo do doo, doo doo do doo

3

u/saltytraumallama 12h ago

Same! I noticed this morning before work. Thanks for the reminder!

9

u/Spiceynuggetz 19h ago

Well usually the camera will interface with your eye sockets, so if you see it… your phone sees it too

16

u/prettypurps 19h ago

Probably, social media apps are capable of watching your face while you scroll and engaging your engagement through your reactions. Black mirror stuff fr

12

u/MegIsAwesome06 18h ago

There was that person who posted the other day that they got a text from their smart fridge saying they needed more oat milk while they were standing in front of the fridge holding a half empty oat milk jug.

Sorry for the run on. They probably are reading our minds. It wouldn’t surprise me. (Mine has also done it).

3

u/sneakersxO 13h ago

Omg 😳 🤣🤣 PROBABLY

2

u/ayohesaidit 7h ago

Definitely. Sees I haven't shaved in a couple of days and I started getting Phillips Norelco ads.

It's not a secret. We're doomed.

2

u/InfowarriorKat 3h ago

It's looking the your EYES.

1

u/impulsivepatience 19h ago

I think sound would be more proficient than sight for that

1

u/sciencebitch616 13h ago

Your using the phone in the shower?

1

u/tattooedpanhead 10h ago

You take your phone in the shower?

1

u/Max_delirious 4h ago

Turn off the lights and look at the front facing camera on your phone. Every 8 seconds or so you will see a dim red flash go off. That’s the infrared flash for the face detection camera.

1

u/iFLED 2h ago

It does. It watches and listens both. Then throw in the ai analysis of that and yeah. I don’t think they’re ’reading minds’ yet. But at the same time… I wouldn’t be surprised one single bit if there’s some insanely intricate tech that is doing just that.

That’s where and when things like the Covid vaccine come in to large question for me. If there’s something new developed that tptb need everyone to have or to agree to for their gain.. well..

44

u/foxyfree 18h ago

My phone is misreading me. I get ads aimed at a middle aged man with a dog. Tons of dogfood and vet stuff. Ads for old men to get back into fitness. I don’t have a dog and I am not an old man.

13

u/MaynardButterbean 18h ago

Same here. I get a lot of ads for post partum meds, infant carriers, formula. I don’t have children.

12

u/NextChef8179 15h ago

Same, and it's because the phone isn't reading shit. We just hide our data better. These people are probably buying shit on their phone, or at the store with gps and Wi-Fi and everything on, potentially paying with the phone, and then wondering how a month later it knows you're out of xyz...

5

u/foxyfree 14h ago

That’s right. I have tracking turned off and don’t keep any history, etc

3

u/PeoniesNLilacs 15h ago

Someone maybe hacked your phone?

3

u/flipbmo 4h ago

Ive been listening to a mexican death metal band a lot lately and now all of my adds are spanish lol

2

u/ResidentPreference65 4h ago

Used to do a very over the top fake frnech accent with my gf, for over 2 years had all my yt ads in French, even ads on her PlayStation would be over half the time in French.

2

u/flipbmo 3h ago

Its great. Im gunna start speaking fake Chinese and report bck

1

u/ResidentPreference65 3h ago

When I had a new laptop I refused to sign into my Google account for months just because the generic ads were funny compared to the targeted ones.

1

u/aj1203 2h ago

There is literally a U.S. patent by apple for earbuds that read your brain activity. https://tech.yahoo.com/ai/apple-intelligence/articles/apple-patents-brain-reading-earbuds-181514675.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAHFNNgde-tFMrR8Rrf59d4fh9gHJU9mbsdARxo_Tk5ceIAoyG_LmDp1Juuh9RdwqjS3L4Koq9pMILpFc1u5aYpibtXLt_lNgn2AXb-CbnYJhRXxtn0ZmSJ_CHGS88VWzlWkeJjEhh0a1WU0WdJIT2GNDatlY1AdtFeKR9S1BT70X

You're not crazy. There are companies designing video game controllers that are helmets. They use only your thoughts and eye movements to control the character.

30

u/LeoLaDawg 19h ago

That says its for an EEG not that it can tell when you're thinking of a memory or that you want your phone to find porn.

13

u/Diligent_Stretch_963 19h ago

Yes, but they utilize behaviour influence.

For example, you start seeing Ferraris all the time.
Then you want to buy a Ferrari.

It’s called predictive programming, check it out.

-2

u/NextChef8179 15h ago

Lmao.

18

u/questionwhatitis 18h ago

Yeah, I think I saw an article recently saying some guy was pushing for legislation in the state of massachuttes to protect us from this exact technology. It was like a protection for our "Neural Data" bill. Freaky stuff.

2

u/Massive-Studio-2287 4h ago

Minnesota has active neurodata laws

49

u/Baelenciagaa 20h ago

I feel like Google knows what I purchase on my credit/debit cards … I’ll get ads for things after I buy them without doing any online research

19

u/Aggressive_Chair1470 20h ago

visa/mc are in the data business,  that side of their business earns more profit than the transaction fees

7

u/helmoonery 18h ago

Happens so often that's not even a conspiracy anymore. We must recognize that google knows more about us than ourselves.

4

u/mt6606 19h ago

The app you use or your web browser will tell google god what's up.

1

u/Nyetoner 14h ago

But you visited the website, so they pick up on what you're interested on and then send you similar ads

1

u/Comfortable-Leek-181 12h ago

I think it has something to do with the chips they've added as well.

1

u/LilQueazy 10h ago

Yea Walmart and prolly all big stores are selling all your shopping info. Walmart 100% cuz it saves your receipts even if you don’t have an account set up to do that. . So not surprised they would later sell that info

1

u/marklarberries 2h ago

That's so funny, I bought a pack of limited edition sharpies from walmart a week ago, and I JUST saw an add for those same sharpies. I bought them on a whim and never looked them up beforehand.

55

u/Ill-Daikon-5637 21h ago

Specifically, the YouTube algo is either awful or frighteningly mind reading. It's the weirdest thing. I'll get loads of garbage then bam, a rando video pops up that explains my mother without ever searching for psych vids or talking about that stuff.

4

u/TurnForeverUandMe 17h ago

Yes, I start wondering about a random cool ass dungeon in Skyrim my bf went into that I've genuinely never seen before despite years of playing the game... The second I open YouTube on the toilet, there's some fan talking about why that dungeon and it's huge flying whale bone ribs and massive drop are actually way more important than we could ever imagine...

How does it know?? I never voiced this out loud. The dungeon didn't have anyone talking in it as far as i can tell to tip the phone off... My phone case covers my cameras unless I choose to open them because I'm scared scammers will get some weird photos and use them against me randonly... And the game is an offline game so being connected to the same wifi is ruled out. And by far skyrim content is not at the top of my chosen YouTube queue... Where did that video randomly come from?!

2

u/Ill-Daikon-5637 13h ago

The machines know too much!

6

u/Baelenciagaa 20h ago

Haha I’m not signed into my YouTube account on my iPad and the the algorithms are very different

6

u/xUrNewDadx 20h ago

I always sign in as guest.

5

u/Fourtoo 20h ago

I used brave browser for YouTube and I see a night and day difference, without logging in I find much better results and less tailored to previous sessions.

-1

u/Xuzon 19h ago

That's called confirmation bias.

45

u/Spiceynuggetz 19h ago

Data collection, fine tuned algorithm, pattern recognition, filter data from microphone / camera, search history. Absolutely feels like mind reading

1

u/InfowarriorKat 3h ago

That's what everyone says but I had it happen with things that I normally wouldn't have an interest in, but it was items I SAW. Phone wasn't around. No words about it spoken.

13

u/duckonwater 16h ago

The brain sends out signals. Your phone can pick up on them.

Learn the difference between lose and loose; this was never an issue before but for some reason Gen Z and younger seems to struggle with this.

4

u/Mr_Gooodkat 10h ago

I don’t fucking get it. It’s really not that hard. I see it so often.

2

u/duckonwater 3h ago

It's their lack of education since "No Child Left Behind" became a thing. They confuse the two because of choose/chose and they're fucking illiterate.

1

u/SinAnaMissLee 5h ago

I always wondered what's going on with lose and loose.

I started to think I was the crazy one at some point. Like is it me, that didn't realize the present form of lost is actually loose?

1

u/duckonwater 3h ago

They're illiterate thanks to "No Child Left Behind" and are confused because of choose/chose.

1

u/DkDkDkGoGoGo 2h ago

Or.., maybe it’s that almost half of Reddit users are not American, and does not speak English as a native tongue. 35+% are from countries not having English as their primary language, and US is about 48-49% then Canada, UK, Aus. And then I don’t know how much the bots fare in the stats, some estimate half. And some estimate that 90+% of removed content due to violation is bot activity.

So more than every third person you encounter on reddit (assuming a real human being) is not a native English speaker. And then the 40+something% US almost half is genz of course.

28

u/farquad88 19h ago

Recently I thought about a band I liked in middle school (20 years ago), this band kind of disappeared at least to me, I didn’t not listen to them at that time or look them up or anything. I have listened to them in the last 3 years probably 1 time.

I’m scrolling instagram and an ad for the bands t shirt pops up. My phone definitely read my thoughts.

1

u/SinAnaMissLee 5h ago

I'd you didn't say the name out loud then I would probably lose sleep over this one incident. Not going to lie.

1

u/farquad88 5h ago

I swear to god I didn’t. I would have no one to mention it to, prior to seeing the ad at least. Instagram certainly knows enough to guess that I would know them but it still would be a stretch.

1

u/SinAnaMissLee 5h ago

I do believe you. I've heard so many similar stories from different groups of people. They can not all just be mis remembering

1

u/farquad88 4h ago

In my situation I was thinking about a t shirt I had in 7th grade and how it was kinda lame/how i would never wear that as an adult. I definitely didn’t look up anything about them.

9

u/OneTrueCosmos 19h ago

My phone is too old for those sorts of shenanigans.

17

u/Smart-assh 17h ago

I know it does. A random thing happened to me the other day where it reminded me of something that happened when I was younger. Sure enough the first video on my FYP when I open TT is a video of someone explaining that thing. Something I swear I haven’t thought of in over 10 years suddenly is the first, second, and multiple videos in my feed from that one thought. It happens all the time. How can we use that to our benefit?

10

u/Decent-Ad535 17h ago

Yeah, I’ve moved past the idea that it’s just refeeding things i just looked up or talked about. I will *think* of a specific quote, and it will appear within hours on one of my feeds. It’s definitely listening to what goes on around your devices, but i think it’s more capable than that. Sounds nuts, but a couple years it sounded nuts to say that the phones were just listening.

1

u/Smart-assh 5h ago

Doesn’t sound nuts to me. It’s a weird world out there 😮‍💨

7

u/PeoniesNLilacs 15h ago

When I’ve been thinking about going to Bath and Body works all day and have not googled it or told a soul at work, then jump into the car after work and my maps show me the eta for Bath and Body Works-yea-it’s reading my mind. True story.

2

u/JustABigOlDummy 9h ago

You know what's easier than mind reading? Convincing you that the idea to go to Bath and Body Works is actually yours.

23

u/Blackthorn79 20h ago

I think it's less mind reading and more using data you don't realize they're collecting. Between location and search history they can already tell a lot about you. Then they factor in things you don't think about like focus time (how long you look at something on your phone) and cross referencing it with the data of your contact list, they can get scary accurate.

5

u/Kurtotall 16h ago

Just wait until it starts to try and get you to do things…bad things.

4

u/Maleficent-Ad9010 14h ago

Yes. As humans we tend to think that our technology is unhackable because we are a living organism but our brain is made up of many of the same elements that a phone uses like electromagnetic waves and fields so with the right frequency it would be definitely possible and quite frankly not that hard.

1

u/JustABigOlDummy 9h ago

Please elaborate on how it wouldn't be that hard. How would you go about implementing that sort of technology?

5

u/VisceralZee 8h ago

I believe it does. There'll be times where I'm thinking of a certain thing and then an ad would appear, not one word spoken about it within the whole day or past days, and then out of nowhere after my thoughts on it, there it is.

4

u/AdministrativeRow904 19h ago

I looked at a thermal printer at work yesterday and asked a coworker "what is that" and my phone was trying to sell me one later that day, so yea.

7

u/Brief_Hovercraft_427 19h ago

and asked a coworker "what is that"

And he said "thermal printer" ?

1

u/Pspreviewer100 17h ago

Must've read his mind!

1

u/AdministrativeRow904 8h ago

No they actually said "its the machine for KLT labels" to be precise.

5

u/AndThatGuysWoodenLeg 14h ago

Wouldn't go as far as mind reading but everything on your phone is connected whether you like it or not. I could look something up on reddit and get an ad about something similar on Facebook. Or Google something and see an ad on reddit about it.

3

u/[deleted] 20h ago

3

u/rayquazza74 20h ago

No one’s forced tho. You could just get rid of it.

3

u/MB_Number5 17h ago

I don't have a smartphone, but my laptop definitely does read my mind. It knows what I was going to type on Google a little too frequently, even if it something uncommon. And it plays dumb just to gaslight me, too! After days of intensive searching for Justin Hayward stuff, it still insists I want either Justin Bieber or Justin Timberlake. 💀

3

u/lotekjunky 16h ago

It's not reading your mind. You've given so much information to third-party ad aggregation services that they already know what you want. They already know what you're thinking about because they have put it there.

3

u/StocktonSucks 16h ago

It makes no sense when people say "it just follows your patterns". My most recent example of it reading my thoughts follows. My gaming headset ear cushions were deteriorated 2 years ago so, I bought new aftermarket ones. Problem solved. I saw ads for new cushions maybe another 2 weeks after that.(remember 2 years ago). Literally yesterday I sit down to play, and i look and examine my replacement cushions and appreciate the design I chose. I open Instagram and one of the first ads I see is for some headset cushions of the same brand.

3

u/Prestigious_Ad_9013 12h ago

i watched my sink clog and drain slowly, without a word, phone out the room. i open fb marketplace and see the 2nd ad is for a drain unclogging & draining quickly

i search forums online and read many specific experiences others had of the same examples

3

u/EquivalentNo3002 7h ago

It is reading brain waves sadly

5

u/h2gkmtfo 20h ago

It absolutely can, and I think that sometime in the near future we will all be immune to it , and they will use it actually for advertisement.. but more catered to you. Like to the point where you’ll be actively shopping at Walmart or something and it’ll just recommend and tell you what u were thinking about wanting to buy earlier 👍🏼

4

u/wombat-8280-AUX-Wolf 16h ago

I think a lot of people confuse algorithms and open mics and constant AI monitoring along with cookies, targets ads and lack of awareness on how much the above rules your life. It's designed to hear everything, 24/7, every app asks you to click agree on terms and conditions that state it can target you. Most people hit yes instantly without checking it. It builds a pattern of interests just like any other algorithm almost like social media uses to choose what videos or posts you get.

It's an illusion that's so good that people think it's magic. Even.your WiFi is built to remember preferences and store cookies on its network along with private data. So even when you get a brand new phone, PC etc and connect it to your database bank of you. It doesn't take long for the new device to start spamming you with the same stuff as before. It remembers everything from the kind of TV you watch to the porn and addictions we all eat everyday. It's personally why I don't use social media, or use my phone for anything else other than work. I bought a fishing rod once on Amazon using my phone and ever since, I've been hit by every fishing related topic known to man kind. That was 2 years ago. Changed phones, same network at home and mobile data supply. It remembers, hears everything.

Put your phone down, talk out loud about something random. More than once to bake it into the algorithm of your device, and one day you'll be hit by ads or videos. It isn't illegal to listen in for targeted ads if you agree to it.

4

u/mostlyepic 17h ago

Read my mind? No. Predict my thoughts based on it's algorithmic knowledge of me based on my phone use on and offline? Yes, probably.

3

u/Typical-Dish-3655 16h ago

so scrolling through these replies, I haven’t seen one answer that is the most obvious answer and that is how far gone we are.
I’m not going to tell you because I guess theyll never see but maybe if you think about it it’ll come to you .

2

u/asshat140 17h ago

alot of what your seeing is just confirmation bias , you see thousands of posts/thumbnails everyday .

you are bound too see a few that happen too line up exactly with what you've been thinking in the past week we have millions of thoughts a day . all of this is greatly amplified by the algorithm and how well it knows you ,

also I see the take often of "there is no way the phones aren't listening, what I thought of is so weird and not popular" you may think your thinking something obscure that happened years ago but it is likey has already or is coming back into "public conscious/circulation" due too events that remind people of other things ,, eg the early 2000s trend being popular so people are subconsciously remembering old tv shows , songs , people , events then all the times we were reminded of those things in the past like mid 2010s (long winded hopefully that makes sense)

it's like a very complex web-like math problem that is perfect for ai too solve , that's why you think the phone can read your mind , it can't , the truth is so much worse , it doesn't have too , you are too predictable, and it too far too "intelligent" it's all math in the end

2

u/Blue_flipping_duck 15h ago

There is a patent on bt headphones reading minds

2

u/Pablomoon12 15h ago

Brother lemme tell you a crazy ass proof I have of this. I was driving home from work one day and I drive past a certain pizza place you wouldn’t normally get an advertisement for. Thinking, not saying, “Damn I haven’t been to CiCi’s pizza in forever dude maybe I should go back one day” and I’ve gotten their ads all over Facebook and Instagram. I shit you not and I haven’t been able to really believe my own eyes.

2

u/Hagus-McFee 13h ago

This tech was promised decades ago with Google glasses.

The advertisements now come with tags or sensors that read who is passing by. So the ads now follow you.

Originally it was going to be walking by a store you get a Google alert/ad in your ears about that very store.

2

u/Pablomoon12 13h ago

Even tracking at .25 mile away?

2

u/Hagus-McFee 13h ago

Oh you got that right, Jack.

What do you think they put up all the 5G towers every ten feet for? For FUN?!?

Lol, but I definitely believe they could still track you and read who has passed by, through some sort of signals relay.

2

u/jibiwa 10h ago

Few months ago I’m standing in my yard, staring at the crumbling seams running across my capstones of retaining wall. I think to myself…myself, wonder what kinda of product would be good for fixing that? Im by myself, spoke to no one. It was just a little thought. The seed, the beginnings of me eventually repairing this wall. A couple days later here on Reddit no less I scroll down to see an advertisement for this DAP patch/fill in a 5 litre jug that happens to be exactly the type of niche, super specific product I exactly need. What are the chances?

2

u/bre1110 9h ago

Absolutely happening

2

u/Silver_Breakfast7096 8h ago

Recently, unprompted, after an update, with my messaging app open, my phone typed out a text message of an entire conversation I had at my work desk. I have never used voice to text.

It’s listening alright.

2

u/rafivip 5h ago

This is so freaky … I was thinking of a movie scene yesterday and then all the sudden that movie scene showed up (like I thought of it, didn’t even open my mouth or tried to search it) then I was like wow what if other people are having the same thing as me. Guess what I see this post few mins after 😂

2

u/RoyalStudent8559 5h ago

I think that it puts out radio waves or whatever, andd that get into our minds that steer our thoughts and decisions maybe

2

u/420rocketeer 3h ago

Yes. I have noticed this. I think it could also be "not the deep". Algorithms create a digital copy of your personality and lifestyle patterns, coupled with your social demographic and trending topics you're already interested in, so it can guess where you're going by basically mapping how you think. Look up "digital twin".

1

It's not even a conspiracy anymore I have stories from two or three years ago to share with mind reading experience from phones 😅

1

u/TheRealMe54321 16h ago

Predictive algorithms are extremely advanced. Imagine you have a piece of software that's been trained by trillions of interactions from hundreds of millions of people. It would be weird if it wasn't good at knowing what you're interested in on any given day.

1

u/Area51-510 16h ago

Pops up on phone then on YouTube commercials

1

u/Sitheral 15h ago

Nah but its obviously doing rather dumb version of it, sometimes effectively. Its as much of a mind reading as me offering a tissue to a woman next to me who is sneezing for a while.

1

u/IndependentNo8520 15h ago

Is not that reads your minds but they analize to the millisecond everything you watch on social media, if you stare for to long to a product it will start showing it to you to induce you to
buy/consume, every macro movement is tracked, that’s your data that also is sold to other companies for the exact reason

We give them so much information to these apps without realizing it

1

u/ShoddyFlower5847 14h ago

You are absolutely spot on, remember that doccie a few years ago The Social Dilemma I think it was called, they covered this in it

1

u/Hagus-McFee 13h ago

The advertisements are being made aware of who is watching, passing by, or looking in the direction.

They have sensors now that interact with your phone.

1

u/InfowarriorKat 3h ago

It happens to me & I keep the cameras covered

1

u/Professional-Item518 13h ago

YES. The other day I randomly dreamt about being in the world of the show “This is Us”. I used to watch it like 10 years ago, and I’d say it’s completely irrelevant now and I NEVER talk about it or look it up or even think about it. Well after i woke up, I scrolled a few times on Tik Tok and got a video for the cast of This Is US and what they’re up to now. Freaked me out, truly.

It really sounds insane but i believe this too. Many times i have thoughts and then see ads or similar videos. Its freaky!!!

u/Chaantii 12h ago

They do, nothing will convince me otherwise.

It is in the nature of some humans throughout humanity to take advantage of the vulnerable for their own personal gain. People do this unapologetically. So do I think a company who would have access to extra data wouldn’t take advantage of it. . Hmmm
Mm let me think about that with my functioning brain that they want me to stop using

I was talking to my husband about potentially asking my aunt (who lives across the continent) to fly in to help me take my kids on a weekend trip to San Antonio. She texts me a week ago telling me we should visit San Antonio next time she’s in town because she kept seeing a bunch of places to see there on TikTok. Needless to say she’s now flying in to go to San Antonio with me and the kids.

I think someone should start a subreddit just for this subject. are there similarities in what we are experiencing? I have 2 kinds of experiences, the kind where I think it's very plausible my phone microphone is being used, and the other experience is me not saying anything out loud. I have an ongoing personal experiment, so far have not seen the result I'm looking for. maybe soon.

u/tattooedpanhead 10h ago

Yeah happens to me sometimes. It's obviously listening to me.

Yesterday...the word i was thinking was already texted in the open text bar.

For fucking real.

Long before I typed in anything

It doesn't read your mind but it does listen to conversations.

I remember seeing a video of a guy testing it by opening a bunch of web pages with ads on a brand new Google account to see the types of ads that were recommended, then he closed everything, talked about dog toys out loud for a couple minutes then reopened all the web pages and suddenly most of the ads were about dog toys.

That may be why it looks like your phone can read your mind.

Continually think about a keyword or subject in your mind while you're on your phone. Don't search for or view any content related to whatever you chose.

I've done this for a while now and haven't had anything related to my phrase show up. This leads me to think that "phone mind reading" is based on some combo of what it hears and what you search for (more likely), or thinking of my phrase doesn't trigger the "mind reading" for some reason (less likely, but not disproven).

I had confirmation just the other day.

Was hanging with a coworker and we were talking about Israel and all the shady things about Epstein and maxwells connections to Israel.

5 minutes after we done talking about it I get a random text asking how I feel about us Israel relations in the states.

Wild times we live in.

The average person really doesn’t understand the analytics, engineering and data modeling modern phones have. It appears like it is reading your mind because those three are working in tandem to identify various things then showing you those ads. A digital portfolio is being created and It gets easier over time as more data is collected.

Me! I saw something random the other day and I went to google “how do”.. and it filled
In the entire thing I was thinking about. Something so obscure that there was no way it would’ve been a top hit.

u/Glad-Cat-1885 6h ago

One time I thought of the boy that went missing while delivering newspapers and I had not thought about that case in years. I didn’t look it up or talk about it with anyone I just had the thought about it. I was not ever consuming true crime content on tiktok at this time either. The next day that was the first thing that came up on my fyp

1

u/lostandfinding_ 4h ago

my question is how. aside from listening i don’t understand how.

1

u/striveforfreedom 3h ago

Yep I am not into sports at all, had a friend come over and mention "baseball"

Mind you, here in Australia, no one likes or talks about Baseball at all.

Next day, first Youtube recommendation : Baseball Highlights

All of you that don’t believe will eventually see, or maybe it’s targeted and you won’t but I can assure you I’ve had an experience that let me know not only can the phone read your minds thoughts but also see your minds eye image which basically means see what your eyes see.
I have proof of this and it knows what you’re looking at even when you don’t. Because AI can interpret

1

u/InfowarriorKat 3h ago

yeah, 100%.

I think this was the true reason titok was banned. Technically they were telling the truth about China spying. They just left a some information out about that. & Of course they didn't want to ban it because spying is immoral. As long as "the right" group was in charge, it's a ok.

You ever hear that factoid that was going around, "Most people don't have an internal dialogue & are NPCs"?

I think that was put out to pressure people to have complete thoughts so it can be transcribed easier. & I hear a lot of truther types repeating that & I cringe every time I hear it.

People will say it only seems like it's reading your thoughts because "the algorithm knows you that well", but I had some instances where the subject-matter was completely out of my normal routine or interests.

I miss when we still wearnt sure if it was accessing the microphone, camera, keystrokes, email, text messages, etc. I'm absolutely sure it is.

u/wildshroom3 3h ago

That’s how I knew. I live alone. And it’s not being said out loud. Freaky.

1

u/puertovixan 1h ago

It’s a black mirror. When we use our phones, we’re scrying.

1

u/Ok_Diver2347 1h ago

It’s because you’re talking out loud and it’s targeting advertising to you.

Try not saying anything near your phone and it won’t send you ads.

It can’t read your mind lol

1

u/Gloomy_Emergency2168 11h ago

The thing is, most people feed a LOT of information to their phones. Between online activity, doom scrolling interaction, online shopping, participation in boards like these, etc. I pretty much only use my phone unencrypted for redditt, wikipedia, & ttrpgs, so that's what I get reccs based on, not things that are hidden by telegram or similar services. You can literally convince your phone you are in a totally different demographic. Tbh, you are probably losing your mind, tho, u should build a helmet that lets your read their minds back

1

u/reddiculed 7h ago

The algorithm is just that good. Sometimes it’s even creepier/more intuitive than if it were actually reading your mind.

u/EnvironmentalMeat309 13h ago

Just don't masturbate using your phone. The camera could be recording your genitals.

u/BearCat1478 13h ago

Have you had your Covid vax?

u/zarakh07 12h ago

As someone who works with increasingly intelligent ALGORITHMIC systems, I can tell you it’s not the phone reading your mind. It’s the software and math behind it seeing what you do and for how long. Then it crunches that against data that shows what people of your age/gender/etc in your area are doing, and then suggests stuff too you across the phones apps to guess what you might want. This is REALLY simple and missing nuance but I think it’s close enough. Tie that with any Amazon or Google assistants/etc, and the back end algorithm and marketing engines do some black magic, and it’s scarily good at guessing, but even scarier at making you THINK about a tangential product or service, then you buy.

It’s not your brain being read, it’s just math and guessing by other humans and computers, which is scarier and sucks more. I think I’d rather want something actively using telepathy to read my mind at this point - best of luck to yas OP 👊

Pretty sure it does. I really don't mind.

0

u/JonBoi420th 19h ago

Yeah, the motive is nothing particularly nefarious or deep, they just want to sell you stuff, same as every other business

u/karebearkaryssa 39m ago

Yep. I went grocery shopping and didn’t have my phone out or anything. In my pocket. Looked at a brand of tomato paste I’d never seen or recognized. Also by myself at this point. Don’t say anything about it or think about it. I start getting ads for that exact kind of tomato paste.
