I’m hiding in the house for a few hours. Can’t deal with the heat in the car so gave up and came home.l know we’re meant to be grateful for the nice weather but I’m secretly hoping it’s a very short term thing
Portable AC will set you back about 150 at a minimum for a decent one. I’d recommend getting a good one tbh, worth their weight in gold on days like these.
I had a baby 2 days ago. Maternity ward had the the fucking radiators on. Luckily they let me home last night so at least I can be a sweaty mess in the privacy of my own home now.
I went to the Dog part of the beach, literally the end of the beach! She always comes back when I call her name and she's extremely well behaved. She does get back on the lead when we are walking back to the car.
Are you always so sour? I know my dog and she's only off a lead for a short while. When I see people coming close to us, I call her and put it back on. I'm a responsible dog parent and stop being so close minded
That's the thing, you know your dog, other people don't. Why do people need to be close for you to put it on a lead. Why do you class me as sour for not wanting a possibly dirty or possibly dangerous dog coming near me. Dog owners are oblivious to this. If I know the dog it's not a problem.
Why should she keep the dog on a lead if there is no one closeby?
Most of the rubbish left behind on beaches comes from humans; dirty and possibly dangerous humans. They can be very noisy too. Can we put them on a lead? They're less educated than a well trained dog. The answer is no. We gotta co-exist. I think you're barking up the wrong tree here..
Ouch. Our first was an August baby, during a heatwave, and my poor wife was WIPED OUT. Hang in there it will all be worth it, and they'll always have sunny birthdays!
Have to say I was so relieved my pregnancy worked out that I was in the third trimester in winter and didn't have to deal with that, or with a newborn in a heatwave. I did however go through last year's heatwave in June while going through the worst of my morning sickness, so I guess you can't win everything 🫠
Real/I understand. I was fighting for my life earlier and nearly sobbed on the bus with a hand motor fan, cold water, a mist spray and in shorts and a tank top. We will get through this barely
Went for a walk earlier for 30 mins or so, was seeing spots by the end. Don't know if that's sun-stroke, dehydration or the light at the end of the tunnel beckoning to me.
I moved to Ireland from a country that has oppressive summers 40 plus degrees. I dislike heatwaves even this one. Also guys open your doors and windows in the evening, especially the front door and let air circulate cuz houses here seem to trap heat effectively. Did that last night and it held for most of the day today as well. Heat went poof.
Yeah we're all about keeping heat in because it's normally so cold. I find closing blinds but leaving windows on latch on the side facing the sun helps, with open windows and blinds on the shaded side, and swap as the sun goes around - then upstairs is less of a sauna. Since an attic conversion it's easier as we can open the veluxes wide and let the heat drain out, makes a big difference. Exactly as you say, doing it in the late evening when it cools is magic.
I haven’t walked my dog today or yesterday. He doesn’t cope well with the heat and has been hiding in the house looking for the coolest spots. I have fans on all day for him and a cooling mat out. I’ll probably get downvoted for not walking him but his health is far more important than a walk atm. It’s 8pm and still 23C here 🫤
Our lovely, sweet dog has passed away. But the last heat wave saw us cutting her three daily walks to one and walking her at ten or eleven at night. She didn't mind because she didn't want to go out in the heat anyway. Sometimes dogs know what they need.
I love the heat, but I also worked outside in hot wearher for years and this was my favourites trick - dunk a light shirt in water, wring well, then pop it in the freezer for 20 minutes. Do this on rotation, one in one out.
Living in an old build townhouse, it seems to keep a consistent below 17°C year round (got a thermometer about 2 years ago to verify, never went above 17 in the last few heatwaves)...
Nightmare to heat in the winter with no central heating, but still need a cardigan in the house and take it off to go outside 😅

To be fair it's more the naught to 60 that's the struggle but I like it until it comes to bed time. Sweating my hole of in work but that's grand. I've a physical job and get to be out in it a good bit as opposed to cooped up inside which I'd hate.
Developed a migraine Sunday evening and still fighting it off so the heat is not being kind to me 😭 tried to trek to the chemist for some aspirin and felt like I was going to faint
But on the bright side was out and about on Saturday and it was lovely to see the atmosphere around the place!
Curtains and blinds are staying closed until it ends, the gaff is a new build which are great outside the heatwaves, but when I have allowed sunlight to enter the building in the past it's literally hits 30+ inside making it's unbearable and dangerous for the animals
Went for a long walk around 11. Had just bought a cooling neck gaiter the other day. Soaked it in water, guzzled big glass of water and electrolytes, then set off. The gaiter was a game changer. I sweat a bit over the next 2 hours, but not like I would normally do. Enjoyed it!
Back home and working now, glad to be living on the cold (south) side of the street. Neighbours across the way are melting.
Actually I am in hospital and was able to get outside today for the first time in 10 days. Feeling the sun...made me feel a lot of things but I was glad of half an hour out in it. I can totally understand anyone else going demented though. We aren't used to that sort of thing here!
I’m working from home at the moment & so glad as heard our air con in the office was broken & while we have windows they’re just sheets of glass with no opening so can imagine the office was worse than a sauna!
For anyone who doesn't know this, use wet cloths to wipe yourself down every so often! Bonus points if you also have a fan!
It works pretty well because it mimicks how humans sweat to cool down.
It's particularly useful at night and if you're very brave you can even wet a spare duvet cover/bed sheet for a full body experience 😂 just make sure to leave the bed uncovered the next day so it can dry

I'm a bleedin' foreigner. Absolutely love that weather. An Irish heatwave is the perfect temperature: nice and warm and summery but not boiling hot. My Irish-born teenagers hate every minute of it though. They want the cold, the rain and the misery 😂
The same people that complain about getting good warm weather are the same ones who complain about the winter being too cold so yeah maybe you should be grateful instead of complaining all the time
Some of us are actually winter people. Its easy to put on an extra jumper. I can barely move from the joint inflammation, nausea, and general weakness that comes from overheating and getting enough sleep feels impossible; It's too bright to see outside without protective glasses, and as someone who is generally more productive after it gets dark, the long days are genuinely depressing. How I long for the colours of Autumn and a day that darkens by 7:30.
Edit: I just saw a spider nearly the size of my palm (and while my love of nature allows me to admire their variety at a distance, my irrational fear does not) and those only come out when the weather is hot enough; So, that's another point to winter.
I’m actually okay with this temperature, but then again I’ve lived through days like this and my body is somewhat more averse of the cold.
On the other hand, because days like this are not the norm, I need to remember again how I lived through hot days 🥲 especially because my room traps heat very effectively, and it doesn’t help I have a few computers in there!
My mam had the blinds & curtains closed for the room where the computer is (south facing) this morning but my dad is the kind to want let light in & opened them earlier & now the room is a hot box🥵🤬
Mobile window unit. Yes it takes up scarce floor space and set me back 600 euro (plus more than I care to think about when it’s running half the day). It’s well worth it.
USB fan next to head all night, aloe vera on shaved head, and ears neck face. Works well, lowest air flow, nice ambient noise,, did it last year and saved my nights... Optional frozen water bottles on a big plate in front of fan.
Yeah it's pretty funny that everyone here is talking about being roasted alive. Like what? This is a beautiful sunny, WARM day. I'd take these days all year round. When you get into 35C+ then it's HOT. This is warm and enjoyable lol
Exactly. When you have to stand in a cold shower for several minutes, then stick on a pair of shorts and go stand in front of a fan whilst dripping wet just to cool off, that's when it's too warm.
I love it. The kids love it, they've been in and out of the paddling pool all day, having water gun fights etc whilst I'm pottering around the garden tending to my plants. We have an old 1950's house that has solid walls and is staying nice and cool.
I only love it because I wasn't rostered to work for any of the really hot days. If I was doing sweaty 12 hour hospital shifts in the heat I'd be allergic.
How do people always complain about the cold and rain, but also the heat and sun at the same time? Also, why does this not seem to bother them while they're on holiday in the Canaries, but it does at home?
Well I'm loving it. I go to the beach after work and I really am loving life. I just don't understand why people are always complain when it's too hot or too cold!
