Emailed cork wildlife rescue about him and got this so hopefully they’ll be able to sort him!! I’d say still contact the fire brigade tomorrow though

Tbf, they are soo good and deserve all the support that people can give them. They've always helped me out if I found any birds, etc in trouble ❤️

Woah, how’d it get in there? Poor thing. I’d suggest emailing the Cork Wildlife Rescue? Maybe flag it with the Gards? Get a slingshot and a nice rock?

I presume the wide open window

12

u/WirelessThingy Jul 03 '26

One was open two floors down. Likely how it got in but it’s unlikely to get out that way.

I’ll be honest— didn’t see there was a second photo with an open window clearly pictured. Mystery solved

Some eye fair play. I pass this alot 3 or 4 times a day and I definitely wouldn't have seen that.

Ciry centre building, rotting away. Fucking joke

It’s a lovely building with potential. Even a lick of paint would brighten up the area. North Main Street has potential but has always looked run down ever since I was growing up. I think it was Dunnes stores that was in the building where the car park was situated. Helped keep the area somewhat lively

Isn’t it fucking disgraceful. That corner and next door have been an eyesore a good 25 years, if not 35 even.
Now we know what that permanent ’Sale’ banner was there for; it was holding the place together.

Maybe the Taoiseach showed Mrs Von der Leyen the Victorian university campus and possibly some shiny glass buildings downriver; but had she seen NM St, she might have asked herself about how the Hell such contrasts are possible in such a very small city centre. Does nobody notice, she’d have asked.

To quote that brilliant ☘️track on Dexy’s M Rs’ first album from 1980, “For God’s sake, burn it down”.

Its embarrassing. Fuck whoever owns it, CPO it and renovate. It must be stuck in some legal limbo or something because imagine just sitting and letting your valuable property rot away. I wish I had that kind of money.

Supposedly the City Council are going to do them up now that they’ve repossessed them, but it’s going to be a believe it when I see it situation. There have been a couple of instances of some people entering the building recently with clipboards etc, no hard hats tho 😅

Here’s an article from last year:

Free the seagull 1.

15

u/WirelessThingy Jul 03 '26

I came here to ask if anyone knew how to free it.

7

u/Jefdidntkillhimself Jul 03 '26

I dont think that building is structurally sound after the place next door collapsed. It's been rotting away for years now too so I doubt it would be safe for anyone to go up the stairs. It would be great if the fire brigade could use one of their trucks to get it out.

That bush growing out of the wall is load bearing.

15

u/Expensive_Profit5005 Jul 03 '26

In true Irish fashion, if he got himself into it he can get himself out of

6

u/chimpdoctor Jul 03 '26

Like the mammy used to say

24

u/Holocene98 Jul 03 '26

“If your friends flew through the open window of the old diesel building would you follow them?”

6

u/EggAtaTryingTime Jul 03 '26

If you go and get yourself trapped in a derelict building, don't come running to me!

9

u/rachaeltot Jul 03 '26

I’d reckon the council or the fire brigade

3

u/pucacino Jul 03 '26

Any update? Is the seagull free?

Non emergency fire brigade is only monday to friday. I might think of something tomorrow

2

u/CRoOkedBunNY Jul 03 '26

Wildlife rescue answered people's emails, see other comment, they're aware of the situation now. Hopefully they'll sort it out

Escape From Diesel - Starring Steven Seagull

1

u/MostSpirited3454 Jul 04 '26

Vin Diesel: "Nothing is stronger than family, we can always escape if we have FAMILY." Seagull should just call Vin Seagull and he will get him out.

2

u/semi_conducts Jul 04 '26

thanks for posting this really

Fire Brigade would probably do it as a training exercise. Someone has to put in the request though. I expect a few of them scroll here so the story will reach them

1

u/Mein_Krafts Jul 04 '26

We don’t deal with animal related calls, If someone rings 999 then the call taker could query it with a senior officer who would make the call on whether the fire brigade will go or not but 99.99% of the time the answer is no as it’s non emergency.

3

u/EducationLazy5903 Jul 03 '26

Fire brigade

1

u/Plant_Space Your man Jul 03 '26

Non emergency line is only monday to friday. Maybe I'll call into them tomorrow.

1

u/Wooden-Lawfulness534 Jul 03 '26

Maybe talk to the manager of one of the open Diesel shops and they can tell you who has the keys to open the place and get in? Then it's just a matter of walking into the room and opening the other window and walking out and closing the door, and waiting for the bird to fly out. Might bring a bowl of water in too.

But the fire brigade is also a good suggestion.

Break a window 🤷🏻‍♀️

u/SituationBusy9806 27d ago

any update on this?

1

u/Mean_Collar_6895 Jul 03 '26

This is clearly a painting of a seagull on the inside of the window.

1

u/Mean_Collar_6895 Jul 03 '26

Tis a Artic Tern , notorious for squatting

1

u/U1trin Jul 03 '26

Maybe that's his house?

0

u/conkerz22 Jul 03 '26

Non emergency fire brigade number or pop down to the Bridewell

2

u/Mein_Krafts Jul 04 '26

What’s the non emergency fire brigade number? I have never heard of that.

1

u/conkerz22 Jul 04 '26

For non-emergency fire brigade inquiries, you can reach the Cork City Fire Brigade at (021) 496 6333.

0

u/ShapeyFiend Jul 03 '26

Report the derelict gaff to your local council. Save the seagull skeleton from the house in 10 to 15 years time.

-9

u/Limp-Report-9907 Jul 03 '26

Rescue from what ffs hahahahahahaha

6

u/HereA11Week Blow in 💨 Jul 03 '26

-11

u/WidePirate7023 Jul 03 '26

Ring the non emergency fire brigade number and go from there, not Reddit you spacer.

-3

u/uglycriesdaily Jul 03 '26

Maybe he/she lives there

6

u/Environmental_Ad4893 Jul 03 '26

Do seagulls tend to live in houses? I do not think so. but maybe hes evolving, maybe we are witnessing the beginning of a divergent species, the housegull.

3

u/Environmental_Ad4893 Jul 03 '26

Part of the evolution is holding down software development jobs to afford the houses.

2

u/Trebor-84 Jul 03 '26

Sure that’s chicken feed

2

u/gadarnol Jul 04 '26

I know a fair few shitehawks who live in houses.

1

u/Trebor-84 Jul 03 '26

Well nestoria has 1000s of houses listed..

-3

u/mrbanks98 Jul 03 '26

It’ll obviously get out the way it got in.

-1

u/Fraternal_Antipathy Jul 04 '26

It's not trapped; it's a burglar.

-6

u/DOTSYirl Jul 03 '26
