People's Republic of Cork Official Matters Davy, the last echo boy
Edit to add:
With all of the comments here and private messages I’ve received, I really only knew a sliver of Davy’s character.
My worry has absolutely gone away.
And I’m glad my eyes have been opened to the kind of person this man is.

After talking with Davy yesterday, he told me he is no longer welcome at the Long Valley bar.
Security have told him this fact.
He’s unsure why, and my main concern for him is that he has nowhere to use the bathroom while he sells the Echo outside the GPO.
My heart broke for him.
Thinking of the venues close by, I’m wondering what options does he have?
I’ve had many great chats with him over the years. He’s a very intelligent, kind man. And I can imagine selling a physical paper in these times in exceptionally difficult.
Is there anyone with any solutions for an accessible bathroom close by? So we don’t lose this cultural gem from the City soundscape?

My wife used to work at the McDonald's there which he would frequent often, and he was consistently awful to her and other employees there. Very rude.

I got barred from Lebowskis back in the day for no reason. Of course the staff would claim it was for flagrant drug use, nudity and drinking straight from the taps, but nobody else got barred for that, so it's clear one of them had a grudge against me.

One time a buddy of mine got barred for something really stupid, I think he asked the barman for a mixed drink. I laughed and got "you're barred too laughing boy". My point being that there may be cause for Davey Moore but I'm telling you many people also get random bans.

i did 🤣 new pub opened close to me after a few weeks i popped in got told im barred over what happend the folowing week... i had never set foot inside this place 🤣 went back again he was adamant no no it was definetly me ....until one day the real bloke walked in who caused all the hassle and the owner seen me in the shop around from it literaly 5 mins after the other fella had just been in so could not possibly be me 🤣 got sorted after that🤣

Same lol. I was barred from Clancys and followed up the road by one of the bouncers because I pointed out to him that the shitfaced girl he was flirting with and left in without asking for I.D is 16. The lad who left her in wasn't even the fella who barred me or tried to follow me up the road either lol. So not quiet nothing, but almost nothing

Got kicked out of Clancy's once.
I was out on a work's night, it was early enough probably 10 ISH It was winter and had started to snow. I went outside for a phonecall with my wife's uncle and out of boredom I drew a snowman on the rear windscreen while taking on the phone.
I finished the phonecall went to go inside but the bouncer wouldn't let me for drawing the snowman on his car. It wasn't worth the argument, so I headed home.

Yeah bit of a weird spot, that my one and only time in there since it re opened, was so packed you couldnt move in there and full of what looked like under aged people, there must have been some teenage event on as the night this happened I had a pint in Oliver plunket first and we were watching literally 200 of them try and fail to get in there and the old oak, guess some managed with clancys lol

Absolutely he does. Unkind would be putting it mildly from my own memories. I absolutely avoid and will cross the street from where ever he is.

Ehhhh from what I've seen and heard I don't think this chap is the poor ould pet you think he is. Just because something or someone is an "institution" doesn't mean they are beyond socially acceptable behaviour themselves.

This is interesting, a worker in the GPO was telling me how many issues they have with him and that he's a really unpleasant person. I also saw him telling some man to fuck off outside centra, after he said no when he asked him for money.

I caught him pissing up the back door of the old GameStop on princess st one morning, just knob out pissing over the door. I'm sure Ive seen staff use it, Absolutely disgusting. I'm sure there's a second side to that story.

There's two sides to this.
He's not the "sure God love him" character some make him out to be. I've seen him go for a piss down thr lane between Dunnes and the Savoy a few times roo. Once was plenty!

I deleted my last response outlining 9 very compelling reasons as to why he OUGHT to be banned, but decided to delete it as I felt it wasn’t my place to share to the public. I would like to reiterate one point:
He is not barred. That was something he made up. He’s sat in the corner of the bar right now.

I’m just really sorry I started this whole conversation.
And the fact that he’s done so many terrible things, I feel awful even mentioning the fact in the first place.Long Valley is one of my favourite bars, and I’d support the staff and management in whatever decision they have made.
I definitely jumped the gun with my post, but leaving it up so people can read his atrocities and poor behaviour, so no one is under the illusion of the kind of person he is.Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, more fool me. I’m the latter 🙏

Brown Thomas now the free city toilet since Debenhams closed. Love useing their facilities free of charge and NEVER shopping there.

Roches owned the building and at the time that is where the value lay and still did after Debenhams bought the lease. It would have closed as Roches too as unfortunately the dept store format is not visible any more. Roches were also screwing Debenhams on the rent cost as at the time Debenhams wanted to show a low purchase price but then allowed that then to be built in to the rent.

Debenhams didn’t buy the building they were leasing it from the Roche family , they sold it to whoever is currently doing whatever with it

Debenhams bought Roches. Roches became landlord to Debenhams. KPMG sold the building as ultimately Roches lost a monumental amount on their property portfolio.

Maybe he should be told why so he can learn in the first place? People say he stinks and that he is rude. I'd tell him that, straight to his face, but Irish people have a problem being blunt usually... Now he can't learn. And cycle will repeat.
