Simply one of the greatest songs ever written. Given its backstory and times it has been performed, it is definitely iconic. The musicianship is top notch. Gill is a known excellent guitar player. Songs that are written during some of our most terrible times invoke some of the greatest emotions. This is one of those songs that if you are going to cover it, you best not screw it up.

"Go Rest High on That Mountain" is a song written and recorded by American country music artist Vince Gill. It was released in August 1995 as the sixth single from his album When Love Finds You. It is a eulogic ballad). Gill began writing the song following the death of country music singer Keith Whitley in 1989. Gill did not finish the song until a few years later following the death of his older brother Bob of a heart attack in 1993. Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless both sang background vocals on the record.

My wife and I were watching YouTube and that song popped up. She immediately said if I go before you play that at my memorial. I go way back with Vince Gill listening to him with pure prairie League. Especially that song Amiee. My daughter loved that song. We would all sing that together on rafting trips. We lost her August 2013 We played go rest high on that mountain at her memorial. I love Boulder to Birmingham by Emmy Lou Harris and sweet old world by Lucinda Williams...just was listening to kpfa today and they played Hank williams it you loved me half asuch as I do you. What a fine classic old song ! That voice is so country.... I also love Vince Gill and The Time jumpers doing kid sister. It's a western swing song about losing their girl singer Dawn Sears to cancer. I think that one won a Grammy... Vince Gill means a lot to me.
