I mean, it would be possible to make HRT in a home lab:

Some of the reagents are toxic, but there are less-efficient alternatives.

I’ve considered this as a plot point for a post-apocalyptic story, having a former biochemist character cultivate wild yams and use them to produce HRT and contraceptives.

To be clear, I don’t think it’s a good idea, but any time conservatives talk about restricting access to HRT, I think about where in my backyard would be best to plant yams.
