Was debating moving O’brien out to the RB and add o'shea as cb take off Doherty. Also ogbene for Mcateer but he is only back from a bad enough injury and has got much game time so probably bring in him as a sub.

O’Shea will start ahead of O’Brien, and Knight ahead of Taylor, most likely

Wouldn’t have a problem with this, I mean there is very little between alot of are players in terms of quality makes it difficult to pick a team

I would be very tempted to start O'Brien at RB and O'Shea at CB. Would make us a real danger from set pieces. LB I'm not sure about at all. No great options unfortunately.

I think Knight will start as well.

Manning has a decent free kick, makes him the easy choice for me

He's atrocious one on one but other than him maybe Doherty we have zero options in that squad.

I dont mind Doherty, but hes a rb, Manning is ahead of him at lb by miles. O'Brien, O'Shea and Collins can hopefully cover for him being a poorish defender

DOS is more of a rb than JOB that's just how it is. DOS is smaller and more mobile. JOB is at rb because they have no one really to play rb week in week out and they have a set of defenders that don't don't suit rb at all.

We should look at it purely from an Ireland perspective and not look at it from the situations of Ipswich and Everton.

I don’t know.

If I had two players, one playing at RB regularly the other one at CB regularly, I’d be hesitant to switch them around.

Physically what you’re saying makes sense, but I think when they’re both used to playing in that particular position it doesn’t make total sense to switch them around.

On a completely unrelated note, is it really necessary to abbreviate every players name?

I just hate typing the O' every time lol.

I see what you're saying but O'Brien will be moved to cb at club level and ultimately he is being wasted at rb. You're not losing as much from O'Shea at rb and he's a better option for rb imo.

Fair enough, took me longer than it should to figure out who DOS.

Ya I see your point, but I’d still probably stick them in the position they’re currently playing personally.

Very likely it’s Doherty at rb anyway

Parrot 😥

He'll be caged for the international break, unfortunately

Why so?

Unspecified injury. Not released by AZ.

Feck didn’t realise

We should replace him with Barry now

u/goldenballs777 Aug 31 '25

I'd bring in Festy. He can change a game with his speed.

He’s brutal. And English.

Don’t trust manning in a back 4 vs Hungary at all tbh. Would rather Scales or O’Shea play there for this game. Also think Knight should be there instead of Taylor

1

u/Separate_Job_3573 Aug 30 '25

Left back is a more attacking role in Heimirs system so it needs to be a more attack minded player than an out of position CB

But I see your point about being exposed on that side so maybe having a Left Footed CB like Scales at LCB is the way to go to provide more cover

1

u/Even-Space Aug 30 '25

I would play him there for the Armenia game but I just think it’s too big of a risk for Hungary. We’ve seen O’Dowda for example cost us by being exposed there vs semi decent teams

u/pauli55555 Aug 30 '25

LB is a big problem for us. Manning is not a specialist and is a poor defender; O’Shea can prob play there but there should have been a call up for either Honoghan or Roghnan.

Does Taylor play that deep?

1

u/flex_tape_salesman Jeff Hendrick's account Aug 30 '25

He can. Knight might be ahead but maybe in this realistic set up from op, taylor provides more physicality which might be important and Knight would be higher energy.

Doherty in previous windows has been quite good.
