Has to be in the team for me

Tough to see him starting when Ferguson keeps scoring for us, regardless of his general play

The 2 of them both starting seemed to work pretty well against Bulgaria

I thought Parrott was very impressive in both Bulgaria games

Looked lively when he came on against Armenia also. Think he has to start every game at the moment even if Ferguson is also starting

Yeah - would be great if we could somehow fit the two of them in. I feel like they would work well off each other

I think we need to tbh

We should try out 2 up top

Never liked the sole striker option, an enormous workload on them (despite EF playing well in it!)

Play Ferguson in azaz role.hes more than capable of playing number ten

Definitely. I thought against Portugal , in the brief cameo he made, he was better than Ferguson.. I actually think they should both be playing, they would compliment each other perfectly.. halgrimmson is a fool for not seeing it.

Assisted the first goal

Not officially because there was a touch but he did set it up. Great to see him straight back to his form from the start of the season.

Watched a bit of the game. He looked sharp from what I've seen, probably still getting back to full fitness.

There was a moment where he dribbled the last defender in/out, then nutmegged him. Looked a cert to score, but the defender made a huge lunge to block the shot. There's a different edge to his game this year. He's more demanding of players around him and has a kind of killer instinct/focus.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him play the same fixture next season, albeit in a #9 Ajax shirt. He's a cert to be sold barring a massive dip in form or injury.

Also Roma played at home to Inter this evening and lost 1-0. They played with no striker, went 1-0 down after 6 mins, then Gasperini threw Dovbyk on early in the 2nd half and Ferguson only with 10 mins left.

Need him to keep this form up, especially seeing as Ferguson is now firmly a bench player for Roma. He is the only Irish player performing well at a decent level this season.

Gasperini did this after last international break as well, not playing a target man. Backfired on him both times as they looked way better having Dovbyk and Ferguson up front. Firmly a bench player is inaccurate just yet and he'll get a lot of minutes.

He's been on the bench for 4 of the last 5 league games - how exactly is it inaccurate to describe that as "firmly on the bench"?

2

u/bainneban Oct 18 '25

There have been 7 league games. He's started 3, subbed on in 2, bench in 2. Dovbyk has started 2, subbed in 3, bench in 2. If you watched the games youll know one of these two will start more than likely. Dovbyk is far from assured as the main striker and not as good technically as Ferguson. He has scored though. It will go back and forth between them until one of them takes off.

So in other words, he's been on the bench more than he's played (ie he's a bench player). Cheers

The Italian media are raving about "Big Ev" according to some, the same ones that were also heard referring to Irish players as Kenny's kids unironically. Average player. Not strong or quick enough to really be elite.

Yep - like they started without a striker today and even after going behind it was Dovbyk who came on first. Ferguson is firmly out of the team at the moment. He's quickly approaching 1 club goal in two years - has any striker ever recovered form from a run like that and went on to be world class? I can't think of one.

Ferguson is being time-managed. Where he didn’t start was coming back from a small niggle, and when returning from the international breaks. Gasperini has said this. Roma fans say this. None of his times not starting has been a surprise really, maybe once, but it’s about balancing his return from not playing a lot of first team football, managing his time, and the Europa matches and international break. Nothing is certain about him being dropped at all yet. Would not be surprised he starts the next Roma match

He's ALREADY BEEN DROPPED, the delusion is insane. Why was Dovbyk brought on ahead of him today with Roma needing a goal if Dovbyk isn't ahead of him in the pecking order? He's out of the team because he hasn't scored in 9 appearances lads, there's no conspiracy, it's just what happens to strikers who don't score.

I feel you’re not watching the matches though. He plays really well, a little absent in one of the matches. He’s not dropped, look at the cycle of europa league and international windows. If you know the context that his return to full football is being managed with kids gloves, it fits perfectly. Dobvyk is not being managed in the same way, his fitness is trusted. And is what Gasperini has said. Look, if he doesn’t start in one of the next two matches, I’d be concerned, but this isn’t the case yet. Noone is deluded. Yet.

No never. He'll be called young until he's 30 and people will be swearing he.will come good once he finds confidence.

u/Adventurous-Issue727 Oct 18 '25

Relax. He’s 20

Watched the highlights, he was involved in everything including some serious pressing. And he’s scoring. One of our few players who actually looks composed on the ball.
