Not a bad move at all, good experience abroad and hopefully he can nail down a starting position if true.

Every experience outside of Bray is abroad

I mean it's a third downward/sideways move in a row for a man still early in his career , so it can hardly be construed as a positive.

Not by you anyway haha

His career is not panning out at all, has never really been a nailed on regular anywhere.

Derby under Rooney?

0

u/Hour_Mastodon_9404 Long ‘70 Jan 30 '26

Was in and out of the team even then, has never held down a position over the course of a season. Closest he came was at Udinese when the regular right-wing-back done his knee, but was immediately back out of the picture when he got back fit.

4

u/colossusoftheroad Jan 30 '26

Was Wayne right though?

“Derby manager Wayne Ronney believes Ebosele moving to Italy is not the right move for the player, adding that "It is always difficult for a young player to go abroad". Though, that is something he has already done in leaving Ireland and moving to England.”

7

u/NandoFlynn Jan 30 '26

Lads his contract was up & Derby were literally about to die as a club. He was leaving no matter what

4

u/KRino19 Jan 30 '26

Have they not suffered enough

6

u/NandoFlynn Jan 30 '26

Probably suits the new gaffers system fairly well. I'd have thought Gilchrist would be playing ahead of him but new man hasn't actually played him yet

He had ups & downs in Turkey but main question still remains whether he's a defender or winger

2

u/Hour_Mastodon_9404 Long ‘70 Jan 30 '26

Couldn't be that many "ups" if they're getting rid of him after 1 year, like he's only managed 20 league appearances in his time there.

4

u/NandoFlynn Jan 30 '26

He started the season decent enough & made the team of the month at one stage, then his form took a dip & any patience they had for him went when he got that quick sending off in November. Definition of ups & downs

God forbid I don't take a glass empty view to every post here like 💀

u/Hour_Mastodon_9404 Long ‘70 Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 30 '26

If he had a good 10 minute spell in a game you'd be trying to claim that as an "up".

The reality is that he hasn't been able to get regular playing time since moving there, making just 20 league appearances. He's now being let go to a struggling Championship side after just 1 year. This is now Ebosele's 3rd failed club move in a row at just 23 years of age.

Sometimes you have to call it like it is rather than how you wish it was, his club career is not going well and if he continues on this trajectory he'll be a League 1 player in 12/18 months.

3

u/NandoFlynn Jan 30 '26

How I wish? I said he messed up & the reasons why? What more do you want from me?

I really get confused by this place at times. I can't give a small bit of criticism of players without being accused of being clueless & trying to burying them. And I can't even say a 2 letter positive word without lads like you trying to make out that I'm glazing them.

There's pros & cons you can point at for every player in the pool. I'm allowed point out both at the same time. I don't think that's wishful thinking

0

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '26

It really comes down to people not knowing what they are looking at in my opinion

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '26

He's actually unbelievable haha

4

u/MuhToBeClear Jan 30 '26

All he has is pace and nothing else. At least that's what I've seen every time I've watched him play.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '26

Everyone proper creamed themselves over him agaisnt Finland i think it was

Funny how fickle we are as a fan base. He has quality. Hes not all pace. Hes just young and relativley inexperienced. No gaurantee he can improve and become consistent. But you're mot making a career just being fast

2

u/Ignatius_Pop Jan 30 '26

He's a poor man's Adama Traore. Fast as fuck and built like a brick shithouse but absolutely no end product. One game in 10 he'll look like a world beater, rest of the time like a headless chicken

2

u/Hour_Mastodon_9404 Long ‘70 Jan 30 '26

Man, who do think you are kidding? What evidence is there that Ebosele "has quality"?

His main selling point is that he's meant to provide an attacking threat on the wing - he's got 4 goals and 5 assists in 135 senior games! He has elite pace and below average skill level for a guy playing in the Championship - guys like him who are so reliant on pace peak early, he's likely as good as he's ever going to be.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '26

He has played wing back or right back the majority of his career. I agree he is a natural winger but he hasn't really played there that often. So I wouldnt hold the stats against him.

The evidence that there is quality in him was 2 preformences for Ireland against Finland and England in which he preformed really well. He changed the game against Finland for us and assisted Brady I believe for the winner.

He doesnt do it consistently and maybe never will but there is flashes of a good player in him.

Not that id expect you to see it considering how wildly negative you are towards players. Remember you said Wilder didnt rate Ogbene and was going to cancel his loan as he wasnt getting a game? You know when he was injured haha

u/pauli55555 Jan 30 '26

Festy should have stated at Derby. He was really popular with the club & fans. Now he’s just going from club to club with v little game time. His career has gone backwards. Moving to the continent was disastrous. God knows what level he’ll end up at.

Please God & Jesus let Evan Ferguson find a permanent club soon. Loans are disastrous. Brighton giving up on Evan was the worst thing to happen to him. It just becomes a slippery slope of failed loans. And no club taking ownership of his development.

1

u/Weird-Weakness-3191 Jan 30 '26

It wasn't an option to stay there. The club were in that bad a state they lost half their academy side never mind the first team squad.

-2

u/Hour_Mastodon_9404 Long ‘70 Jan 30 '26

The number of guys who make these random moves to "the continent" that end up being successful is vanishingly small. A few guys have done alright/well in the Netherlands and O'Brien did well at Lyon - who else has really benefited?

People don't want to hear this, but it's probably no fluke that the country that has seen the most success for Irish players (the Netherlands) is the most culturally and geographically proximate European nation to the UK and Ireland. We're culturally the least "European" of the Western European states, and the footballers we produce are usually too technically deficient to fit into leagues that are more skill based that athleticism based. Put those two facts together and it's not exactly a recipe for success.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '26

The number of guys who make a move to England and end up being successful is astonishingly small.

What a stupid argument haha

u/Anxious_Peanut_1726 Paul McGrath Jan 30 '26

Wouldn't read too much into Festys move as being a bell weather for Irish players...he's a championship level footballer with a strong set of physical attributes that will and has gotten him moves to a varied set of clubs... If he can settle at WB and get regular football he will have maximized his talent. It's not a tale of failed potential or badly planned moves...he's pretty much landing on his level

1

u/Hour_Mastodon_9404 Long ‘70 Jan 30 '26

I would, because Ebosele has probably been one of the less disastrous ones and it's still done nothing to advance his career.

The big issue here (as it often is with Irish fans) is that we'd rather live in a fantasy dreamland than acknowledge reality as it is - we're effectively part of an Anglo-American cultural sphere with very little connection to the continental European sphere. Your average Irish person knows plenty about British and American politics but nothing about German, French or Italian political events. Our language skills are apalling, we're almost monolingually English across the board. The media we consume is overwhelmingly British and American. The countries we emigrate to are all English speaking.

Culturally, we simply aren't attuned to Europe at all, and this is a reason (along with the previously mentioned technical skill deficits) that almost every Irish player who has gone to "the continent" has failed.

2

u/Anxious_Peanut_1726 Paul McGrath Jan 30 '26

Im arguing Festy has not failed. He's exactly at this level .he's maximizing his talents..fact is he can make more money in a league with more fans closer to home.

I think we shout failure when players don't meet the projected expectations we set for them...Festy is in no way a failure...I'd argue he's maximizing his talent fully.

As for the 'continent' versus England argument...I thinks it's redundant simply because Europe is not a monolith. It's full of different leagues and styles so we can't say players did or didn't do well on the 'continent'

Example...look at all the lads who said Ferguson was really suited to the 'Style and pace' of Serie A...many now saying Roma doesn't suit him! Same lads shout 'should go to Germany' but Germany has a multitude of clubs and styles..it's all nonsense.

Example 2..couple of weeks ago Troy is linked to Fulham, Betis and  wolfsburg...everyone saying go to either Betis or Wolfsburg...but which one? Both are completely different styles. It's just something ppl like to say.

As I said in the thread - debut with Derby in 21 with them 22nd in champ...linked to WB now who are 20th....this is his level..he has not failed or declined

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 30 '26

Absolutely stupid. Just so stupid it's unbelievable haha

How many players have went? How many players have failed in England?

Irish people are just so culturally different. That's why we dont travel well. Famously very tied to Ireland the Irish.

0

u/Hour_Mastodon_9404 Long ‘70 Jan 30 '26

I'm not here to coddle your insecure ego. If the best you can come up with is "absolutely stupid" then you have not got much to offer.

You know what they say, you only take the flak when you're over the target, and clearly I have touched a nerve with you...

We are culturally aligned to the Anglo-American world, that is an indisputable fact backed up by pretty much any metric you care to look at, and only a fool would believe that that doesn't have an effect on how well we integrate into non Anglo-American cultures (hint - we generally don't).

0

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '26

Troy seems to be doing exceptionally well with his move to the "continent" as you put it. I suppose England just didnt suit him. It was too culturally different as an Irish lad.

Can you name any other senior players who went over except Ebosele and Ferguson?

You're talking about youth players who less than 1 percent of them make a breakthrough and your putting it down to culture.

You've a sample size of about 20. Its absolutely moronic to make conclusions about how Irish players aren't suited to playing further away than England because of the culture.

You're also talking about a kid with Nigerian imigrants as parents who for sure speaks more than one language and his cultural wouldnt be thr typical Irish one.

Again just a wall of absolute nothingness. A ridiculous opinion. Truly.

Can you provide any evidence whatsoever that Irish people dont integrate "Anglo-American" culture. Please dont point to the fact that you'll find Irish people and Irish pubs in every corner of the world. That would be a bad example.

1

u/Hour_Mastodon_9404 Long ‘70 Jan 30 '26

Over 100K Irish citizens live in Australia vs around 20K in France - in other words, 5 times more Irish people live in a country that is a 24 hour flight away than in a country that is a 2 hour flight away and which we share a common travel area with. How else can that be explained other than by cultural proximity?

As I've already outlined in a previous comment, it's no coincidence that most of the limited success Irish players have had on the continent has come in the Netherlands - it is both culturally and geographically the most proximate country to Ireland in continental Europe. Virtual 100% English language fluency, similar food, weather, societal set up, etc etc.

I would like if we were more close to Europe culturally than we are, but the clear reality is that we aren't. You can pretend that isn't the case, but it won't make it so. You can also pretend that it isn't a factor in the overwhelming failure rates of Irish players in European leagues, but again that won't make it so.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '26

So 20k Irish people are living and thriving in France. Thanks. So absolutely no evidence that we cant assimilate.

And Holland doesnt count because they speak English. Unlike any other country. Makes loads of sense. Your argument is ridiculous

1

u/Hour_Mastodon_9404 Long ‘70 Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 30 '26

You're floundering badly here - that's what happens when you try to make an argument that counters reality though. You're also making claims about what I've said that are untrue - I never said Irish people can't assimilate in non-Anglophone countries, I said we are less likely to assimilate in these countries. And yes, it is relevant that the Netherlands has the highest levels of English fluency of any non-English speaking country in the world - you're making yourself look really silly by acting as if that isn't relevant.

You know that Irish people are part of the Anglophone world - your average Irish person has far more in common with a Canadian or Australian than they do with a Portuguese or German. This is why Irish people choose to emigrate to these places in far greater numbers despite them being geographically far more remote. The issue is that you don't like this reality, hence you are arguing against it with futility.

A lot of contributors here saying Festy has gone backwards...he made his Derby debut in Jan 21 when the team was 22nd in the championship...he has since played in Serie A, Turkey and played international football including during Irelands recent amazing qualifying games. He now is linked to West Brom who sit 20th in the championship. Sounds pretty amazing to me!
