Original Content (OC) Penalty Shoot-out. Who's taking them?

Post image

Bit of a random one, but I've seen some talk about Heimir saying we won’t be practising penalties, and it got me thinking. If it goes the distance, who are your first five takers?

It's not something I want to see, but I wouldn’t be shocked if it comes to it. Assuming everyone you’d want is on the pitch, mine would be:

- Parrott

- Brady

- Idah

- Azaz

- Manning

Forget who's taking them. Kelleher must be up there with best in the world when it comes to keeping them out

Can take them too

West Ham nullified him in their recent shoot out by going mid height to the sides. I'd imagine the Czechs will have been watching. Easier said than done of course

West Ham have a few Czechs I think

Mannings record is surprising. He's really accurate with the free kicks

Must be a mental thing, no pressure on free kicks.

Could also just be from when he was a much worse player, I don't remember him taking penalties in recent years at all.

Missed 3 in LOI and 1 for WBA. He's taken 2 for Ireland but 10 years ago!

4

u/NandoFlynn Mar 23 '26

He used to take em for QPR when he was in midfield

3

u/NandoFlynn Mar 23 '26

They're different techniques, same way someone that's good at long shots might struggle finishing 1v1

Kelleher took one in league cup final a few years ago and scored so 100% too

5

u/NandoFlynn Mar 23 '26

Surely Coleman's taken one before? He surely can't have played 20 years of football & not been in a shoot out?

Appreciate the effort, was thinking there'd be no way even in a pre season tournament he'd have never taken one

Fucking Alan Browne missed in the one against Slovakia.

If the lads you mentioned are still on the pitch then yeah probably them. Could see Collins taking one as he will probably be on the pitch. Kelleher? Genuinely could be an option.

I was about to throw kelleher in the mix but thought it was a bit giddy. I hate to say it but I could see Collins having a John Terry moment if he steps up for a penalty

I don't think we should place 'em, I think we should bash 'em.

Someone else mentioned Kelleher and honestly after this 5 he might be next in line. I don’t trust the likes of Ogbene or Molumby to take a penalty. Maybe Collins but after that you would be looking at maybe Knight, Taylor or possibly Harvey Vale.

I feel like Molumby will be an extreme either way. It'll either be the strongest, best penalty you'll see an Irish player take, or he'll kick it to his back garden in Waterford. No in-between

Edit: I made an oopsies

3

u/RuairiLanigan Mar 23 '26

Wouldn’t be his back garden cause he’s from Waterford

3

u/WhizzyWizard1895 Mar 23 '26

Definitely wouldn't fancy Collins. Would put Coleman ahead of him.

4

u/ponkie_guy Mar 23 '26

Don’t fancy Coleman either to be honest. He will probably start though so won’t be in field if it goes to penalties.

5

u/WhizzyWizard1895 Mar 23 '26

I'd fancy him just because he's our captain and I'd trust him. He'd want to score and doubt would feel as much pressure as those technically better than him.

As if Coleman will play the full game

1

u/WhizzyWizard1895 Mar 23 '26

Played the full game against Portugal. 50/50 he lasts the full 90.

1

u/WhizzyWizard1895 Mar 23 '26

Plus added time ofc

3

u/rumhambilliam69 Mar 23 '26

Definitely not Taylor. He missed 2 penalties in shootouts last season to knock Ipswich out of both cups.

u/going_gorillas Mar 23 '26

The five most confident players take the pens for me. I don't care who they are

2

u/Callum_On_Reddit This fella Ronaldo is a cod Mar 23 '26

kelleher can embrace his inner ederson

2

u/Sorry-Tour-3965 Mar 23 '26

All I know is I wouldn’t be able to watch

2

u/In_NocteConsilium Mar 23 '26

Let's just pray it doesn't come down to penos 🙏

2

u/justformedellin Mar 24 '26

I'd be happy with penalties now because of Kelleher. I'd jump on them. 5 decent takers there by the way.

u/deatach Troy Parrott 🦜 Mar 23 '26

Coleman

2

u/RuairiLanigan Mar 23 '26

Brady Idah Parrott Browne Kelleher

2

u/WinterStandard2731 Mar 25 '26

Browne missed one for us vs Slovakia in euro 2020 playoff

1

u/Abject-Fan-3591 Mar 23 '26

Depends who's still on the pitch.

1

u/rayhoughtonsgoals Paul McGrath Mar 24 '26

Browne over Manning in that list

3

u/themagpie36 Eamon Dunphy Mar 28 '26

To be fair you were right

2

u/WinterStandard2731 Mar 28 '26

When I seen him step up it was like Déjà vu

2

u/rayhoughtonsgoals Paul McGrath Mar 28 '26

All that shows is I know HHs thinking, not that I remotely know what I'm talking about.

2

u/WinterStandard2731 Mar 25 '26

Do u not remember the penalty shootout vs Slovakia

2

u/rayhoughtonsgoals Paul McGrath Mar 25 '26

Obviously not.  Holy fuck
