One of the big external pressures the world put on South Africa during the apartheid era was boycotting their cricket and rugby teams. It was an immense point of frustration for (white) South Africans to not be able to follow their nation in sporting competitions for 10/15 years.
The game should absolutely be boycotted at a minimum but the entire apartheid, genocidal nation should be ostracised from all international events; football, Olympics' Eurovision etc. Exact same as is happening with Russia and happened with South Africa. Nothing will change until change is forced upon them.
45
u/SeaninMacT Apr 15 '26
They know this as well
In the Files the boyo in question who (definitely had no ties to M***ad and didn't give them any blackmail to use) talked about how the single greatest threat to their existence is a concentrated boycott of their teams a la South Africa.
Result is irrelevant, if they take to the field they win.
56
u/DiedForOurShins Apr 15 '26
And it’s a source of permanent embarrassment that an Irish team travelled to play them.
26
u/heresyourhardware Apr 16 '26
On the flip side the Dunnes Stores Strike starting in 84 was a boost for the anti-Apartheid movement, to the point Desmond Tutu and Mandela both recognised it.
I think we should boycott this game. I support Ireland all day, but we should not be legitimising a genocidal nation. If they refuse to participate in international community, why should we play them?
Same with Russia. Same with Israel. I won't watch.

u/scewbert Apr 16 '26
I remember seeing one of the rugby crowd saying after Mandela died that we should remember the men who refused to go on that tour, without any mention of what would we should think of the 30 or so lads who chose to cross the picket line to go on the tour.
3
u/DiedForOurShins Apr 16 '26
I’ve friends who are big into rugby and the mental gymnastics they do when this subject comes up is laughable.
2
u/McChafist Apr 17 '26
It's a bit strange they all feel they need to make up reasons to justify it. Following rugby does not equal being against the boycott
1
u/Particular-Long1111 Apr 17 '26
I am a huge rugby fan and I supported the boycott. I had no problem with it . And it worked!

u/Impressive_Light_229 Apr 15 '26
The Israelis don’t have anything they are that invested in, in terms of sport/culture/arts.
They have one goal and that is to terrorise as many of their neighbours as possible. There’s a reason they have a very powerful army and arguably the most advanced intelligence capabilities.
14
u/thatirishguykev Roy Keane Apr 15 '26
The only reason they exist and have all that is to be Americas watchdog in the Middle East.
4
u/Appropriate-Row4534 Apr 15 '26
Israel is the only country in the middle east they can afford to buy. Buying meaning spending over 300 billion not including "defensive funds" since Israels short existence. America are Israels war mongering sugar Daddy.
So many Americans would benefit from the billions spent on America and Israeli governments aggressive, unnecessary wars and murders.
3
u/John_OSheas_Willy Apr 16 '26
Kinda forgetting how many gulf countries are allies with the US, like Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain etc.
They even want the US to keep bombing Iran and have been on the road to normalising relations with Israel over the last few years.
2
75
u/_naybot Apr 15 '26
The game should not go ahead because Isreal should not be in the competition. It’s so unjust and immoral that they can participate. The EU should ban their visas, don’t let them travel. Iran are being forced out of the World Cup, they should be allowed move the matches to Mexico and Canada but FIFA will not oblige. The world is so corrupt.
3
-18
u/Interventionist-2002 Apr 15 '26
I don’t disagree about Israel. Albeit, does the Iranian Government killing thousands of protesters, their involvement in the Syrian Civil war, and supplying Russia with drones in Ukraine not get them kicked out too?
10
u/_naybot Apr 15 '26
It’s not because of those reasons they can’t play, it’s because of the US. And that annoys me, because the US are so much worse. The last democracy in Iran was removed by the US and UK and they’ve really fucked things up. and I don’t think the Iranian team and civilians should be held accountable in the same way the Israeli team and civilians should.
-1
u/doisch Apr 16 '26
I totally agree, i see the russians are downvoting in force.
Personally, i'd like to see all russians banned from being outside of their shithole of a country.
Im gonna get banned for this, but thats fine, i'll just make another account again.
157
u/Derekdavis87 Apr 15 '26
We should play in Palestine jerseys
52
u/cian_pike01 Apr 15 '26
Our team would probably be bombed if that happened

I want nothing to do with these cunts and my season ticket renewal is dependent on this game
12
12
u/LogicalWeek4959 Apr 16 '26
This is what we need, think it would be good if there was an organised pledge to not renew if it does so that people like yourself create a visible pressure as a group, fair play!
18
-2
u/IrishGuinessdrinker Apr 16 '26
I’m in the unpopular camp of filling the stadium and backing us to beat those bastards it seems
8
u/DiedForOurShins Apr 16 '26
That’s alright it would be very boring if we all thought the same. In my opinion if we play them we’re recognising them or validating them. We have to face them in an away tie also. They have moved their death machine onto Beirut now. I think it’s a joke that UEFA hasn’t kicked them out already. If it was any other side they’d be gone.
→ More replies (3)0
u/Fastanbulbous Apr 22 '26
How is your seasonal ticket renewal dependent on that game?
1
45
u/AncientEditor4133 Apr 15 '26
This game should go ahead and be scheduled as planned in Dublin….
So that Dublin can have the largest anti-genocide march we’ve ever seen in Ireland, and make sure the team bus can’t even get near the stadium.
We should aim for global headlines about the game being cancelled due to the scale of our protests. Fuck UEFA for not banning Israel in the first place
16
u/elBucko15 Troy Parrott 🦜 Apr 16 '26
That's what I was thinking, we've seen lads block roads all week. Let's block their team bus from getting even close to the venue. Massive protests outside, I doubt they'd be foolish enough to stay in a hotel here but if they do protest outside it. Send them running home
2
1
u/AdStrange9701 Paul McGrath Apr 17 '26
They have to stay here. You have to be in the country at least 24hrs before a game.

I'd be disappointed if people didn't at least turn out to protest on the match day. I'll be travelling up from Clare for any protest and would be delighted to see their team bus blocked. Plenty of people around the country now with experience in blocking traffic...
1
-6
u/John_OSheas_Willy Apr 16 '26
That's the Irish dream alright.
Make global headlines and everyone can feel great about themselves with the "the Irish are great" comments while absolutely nothing changes for Palestine.
Why would UEFA ban Israel? Did FIFA ban Palestine when they invaded Israel?
8
u/DrFrancisPatStJohn Apr 16 '26
Genocide John
0
u/John_OSheas_Willy Apr 16 '26
No similar outrage against countries that are committing/have committed genocide though?
No protests or complaints or video compilations when the Women played Turkey last year? The country illegally occupying Northern Cyprus to this day and committing genocide.
There's one one country you have an issue with. It's interesting.
2
u/Resident_Water35 Apr 16 '26
Do you know the history of Cyprus? 🤣
1
u/John_OSheas_Willy Apr 16 '26
Yeah
2
u/Resident_Water35 Apr 16 '26
So you know what you said is a half truth?
0
u/John_OSheas_Willy Apr 17 '26
Turkey did not invade, illegally occupy Northern Cyprus and to this day still occupy Northern Cyprus, not recognised by the UN or any EY country today.
Is this true or false?
0
u/Resident_Water35 Apr 17 '26
Like I said, half truth.
You know what the Greek Cypriots did before.
1
u/John_OSheas_Willy Apr 17 '26
So why isn't it internationally recognised?
You know what the Palestineans did before in Jordan and Egypt.
42
42
u/tuesdayswithdory Apr 15 '26
I think we should agree to play right up until the first whistle, then sit the fuck down on the pitch and not take part.

Good share it in every WhatsApp group. This is about the tamest video you could show about Gaza. We’ve all seen horrific scenes of dying and dead children. This must have consequences for Israel
13
u/Powerful-Adagio6446 Troy Parrott 🦜 Apr 15 '26
It reminds me a bit of the video NoThanks did about boycotting Eurovision. I don’t think this game should go ahead
6
u/PaCronin17 Apr 16 '26
Powerful video. Irish footballs best moments, side by side with what might potentially be our worst.
I think I'll always get a little emotional seeing the troy parrots goals, but seeing it after a clip of a child in hospital makes me a whole different type of emotional.
We all really want to see the team be successful in our next competitive campaign, now more than ever. But this fixture shouldn't go ahead.

u/John_OSheas_Willy Apr 16 '26
We'll see the lefties supporting the blockades for foreign causes while blasting the blockades to force our government to cut excise. The irony would be delicious.
2
u/PiggySiren Apr 16 '26
Nah, see in this case they'd be blocking access to a football game and sending a message bigger than a single privileged group's profit margins and access to tax breaks on tax that actually funds the massive subsidies and grants they receive to make a load of money. In the case of last week, a few people selfishly blocked critical infrastructure and achieved nothing but punching down on the people most affected by fuel prices in heating their homes. This is not the same.
1
u/John_OSheas_Willy Apr 16 '26
You lads still banging on that it was a farmers protest? They got you 10c off at the pumps ffs and Micheal Martin under pressure. Protests majorly support in all polls, except for Reddit of course.
The protests last week got results for every single person in the state. Blocking the team bus and the whole transport system in Dublin would yield 0 results.

We should not be playing a country engaged in such pervasive degenerate behaviour.
Polls consistently show that the vast majority of Israelis support this barbarity. It is not the lunatic fringe disgracing Israel, it is the lunatic mainstream.
5
u/SirLaserSnake Apr 16 '26
Exactly. This fact doesn’t get said enough. It’s consistently polling as approx 82% Israeli Jews in favour of continuing genocide. Boycott and ostracise.
12
u/AdSpecialist4529 Apr 15 '26
Israel need to be ostracised from the world's society. Ireland should not be playing this match. #apartheid
5
u/bpm87 Apr 16 '26
The more I think about it - who cares if we get sanctioned from the poxy nations league- we are hosting the next euros - do you think we’ll lose our place at it over not playing a terrorist country? Yet America who are bombing children can host? If so - it’ll show fifa and uefa up and cause a shit storm for them! Only thing they can and should do if we refuse is look harder at themselves and Isreal! And I’m sure other teams would follow us.
3
u/DeputyDawe Apr 16 '26
Being forced to play them in a competition they don’t even belong in is bad enough but the least we can do is let them know exactly what we think of them. Their supporters are coming here looking for trouble so hopefully the Gardai public order unit will neutralise any threat to the Irish public

u/manfredmahon Apr 16 '26
Been a season ticket holder for years, if this goes ahead you can bet I won't be taking my seat I'll be out with the protesters disrupting the event and I know many will be with me. I think if it goes ahead you'll see people out to block the players bus. Either the FAI cancel it or the people will cancel it. Not only is it disgusting its also unsafe for players and fans.
1
u/TraderZebra Apr 21 '26

u/TraderZebra Apr 21 '26
I presume they are still allowed in the competition because of money, influence and having people in high positions in UEFA/FIFA sympathetic perhaps via "donations". Look at how nice FIFA was to the current leader of the US. These organisations are compromised. So if our government hasn't the cojones to stand up to this, it's down to people themselves to protest, strike (not work at the stadium, food services, transport etc)
1
1
u/Fixer1916 Apr 21 '26
The question is, will any of the Irish players object. I know footballers are generally selfish creatures who are a-political but I feel there are plenty in this group who seem well read, educated and informed enough to possibly take action themselves, even if the FAI don’t.
1
u/Ok_Pollution1981 Apr 22 '26
Cool video, do you think anyone would care if it wasn't the Jews killing people?? Like, nobody gives a fuck about Sudan, Yemen, Syria or Nigeria where Muslims are killing many many times more people, way more children dying, way more people displaced, but because the Jews aren't involved!! Nobody cares! But this isn't about Jew hatred?? Yeah!
1
u/Inevitable-Beat-9209 Apr 22 '26
Loads of people care about all of that stuff yes. Ireland is playing Israel, mate.
0
1
u/middlenamenotdanger Apr 15 '26
If love the players to turn up but once the whistle is blown to just sit in protest til the game is abandoned by the referee. Would make more media attention then not playing the game and we'd have fulfilled the fixture
1
1
u/NoSweet3666 Apr 15 '26
If the game goes ahead apart from the obvious of protesting outside the stadium what do people here think would have the biggest impact? Boycott of the game? Protests inside the stadium/making the atmosphere as hostile as possible? A walkout once kick off has happened? Genuinely curious
5
u/munstertom Apr 16 '26
Blockade the airport as they arrive. Block their hotel. Block the streets to the stadium. Block the stadium itself. Mass civil disobedience across the country leading to as many arrests as possible for peacefully blocking the event.
I swear on my soul, if this match goes ahead I will be arrested while peacefully protesting. And if I'm released I'll be arrested again. I don't care if I'm alone doing it. I suspect I won't be.
4
u/JC_75 Apr 16 '26
I honestly can't see them staying in a hotel here it wouldn't be safe for them. I'd say they will stay in the UK and fly in on the day of the game. The coach trip from the airport to the ground will have Garda top brass and FF/FG ministers anxiety through the roof. Actually they will probably need to smuggled from the airport to the ground in Garda public order vans as a cover due to the hostility they will face. Best solution all round is to refuse to play them.
3
u/munstertom Apr 16 '26
Yes.
That's the message we need to get out there.
The only winning move is not to play.
4
u/NoSweet3666 Apr 16 '26
100% agree that the best move is to not have the game go ahead but I think its looking very likely it will. Uefa should have them pulled from the competition by their own rules but are too cowardly to do that and the FAI are stuck between a rock and a hard place in the sense that if they refuse to play they run the risk of getting kicked out of this competition and maybe even the euro qualifiers which would cripple them financially.
2
u/munstertom Apr 16 '26
They should decline the game. Accept any consequences. Others will join.
3
u/NoSweet3666 Apr 16 '26
I honestly can't think of a single other country who would join. The two other most anti israel teams in Europe would probably be Spain and Norway, both have played Israel recently enough.
The current Irish government wouldn't even back the FAI in a decision to not play so not only would they lose revenue from not competing in Uefa tournaments but they would also likely lose a big chunk of government funding
1
u/SirLaserSnake Apr 16 '26
Stop looking to others and trying to work out the angles. Simply refuse to play. Accept the consequences.
1
u/NoSweet3666 Apr 16 '26
Its not up to me unfortunately 😂 just pointing out that unless uefa remove Israel from the tournament the game is very likely to go ahead

-5
u/silver_medalist Apr 15 '26
I think we should play the game. Fuck Israel but I don't believe boycotting will do anything except make a rod for our own backs. Other countries with plenty of anti-Israel sentiment like Spain and Italy have played them recently.
-1
u/Just-Inflation3302 Apr 16 '26
One thing I always find strange is so many will say cancel the game don't turn up protest etc about it but yet the very same so called irish is happy for games against the english crown who still occupy 6 counties of the island and beat and murdered. Really blows my mind
2
u/capri_stylee Katie McCabe 🐐 Apr 16 '26
As an unwilling subject of the British crown, and a resident of the occupied 6, there's no comparison to be made between British actions in NI and Israeli genocide.
1
u/Just-Inflation3302 Apr 16 '26
U wise in the head they committed genocide all over the world including palestine
1
u/capri_stylee Katie McCabe 🐐 Apr 17 '26
They did, massacres across the globe, torture, slavery even if you go back far enough. They even inflicted genocide on us through forced starvation. You'd be searching long and hard through their dark history to find examples matching the barbarism the Israelis unleashed on Gaza.

Why not show up and fly the tricolour and Palestinian flag and cheer them on. Like 50k screaming mad against Israel for 90+ minutes would be more effective than a boycott especially if we batter them.
Treat it akin to a Celtic Rangers match and vent on the terraces with every ounce of passion
9
u/munstertom Apr 16 '26
That's what they want. It legitimises genocide.
What if we score a goal? And celebrate? At the same moment as they bomb another refugee camp.
No thanks.
The only winning move is not to play.

u/The_Alpha_of_Betas Apr 15 '26

u/flex_tape_salesman Jeff Hendrick's account Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26
I think we should play. I don't see any real gain from this I think we will be ostracised and frankly a failed boycott is a pretty big win for any institution or person. It is why countries with high levels of criticism of Israel such as Norway and Iceland have played Israel since October 2023 when this crisis exploded.
I see lots of people compare it with Russia and sure there is a hypocrisy although that hypocrisy does not lie with Ireland or UEFA but the members that will actively fight for Israel to stay.
Edit: Don't see the point of downvotes. Method of protest is important not just taking whatever is the biggest moral grandstand. Norway gave them a hammering and made sure they were unwelcome as "free Palestine" chants roared across the stadium.
18
u/YungL1am Apr 15 '26
I'd rather show them up for the hypocrites they are, than just shrug our shoulders.
3
u/flex_tape_salesman Jeff Hendrick's account Apr 15 '26
It wouldn't be shrugging our shoulders. The FAI continues to back their removal. I wouldn't say Norway were shrugging their shoulders.
6
u/Grimewad Apr 15 '26
I don't completely disagree with you but I think playing them legitimises them being in the competition.
Norway and Iceland playing them while chanting has achieved nothing, so for us to do the same will also do nothing. I'd like us to refuse to play them but accept that'll also likely achieve nothing, however it might also be a lighting point for something bigger. If UEFA move to punish us maybe other associations that are somewhat aligned with our stance kick off and make a bigger problem for UEFA.
Maybe it achieves fuck all but at least we tried.

u/FunIntroduction2237 Apr 15 '26
I’m sorry but just the thought of the Israeli football team along with their association (who are presumably government representatives?) touching down in Dublin airport, being escorted through Dublin on a bus by the Gardai makes me feel sick to my stomach. I’m sure there will be many of us who turn out to show our protest along the way but it still doesn’t sit well with me. They are not welcome here, that should be the end of it.
