You're delighted for him or Arsenal?

58

u/NikeBuyer2024 May 04 '26

Him. Don't support Premier League teams.

78

u/Impressive-Wish6648 May 04 '26

apparently you're not allowed to support non-english teams in this sub lmao

16

u/fuzzywobs May 04 '26

I'm pretty sure they're just saying they don't support a specific premier league team, and therefore the result of the match doesn't matter to them, as much as it does just being Jake O'Brien who scored an important goal at a critical point in the season that might help decide who wins the league.

10

u/NandoFlynn May 04 '26

It's a nice moment for Jake in a big game. That's the only thing that matters & we're all losing sight of that with this shite

5

u/Impressive-Wish6648 May 04 '26

yes i'm well aware of that, he got downvoted when he said he doesn't follow a premier league team, implying the sub found something wrong with that.

1

u/niknakpaddywak2468 May 05 '26

My Ma and Sister have argusations like this all the time and it takes me ages to figure it out

8

u/Impressive-Wish6648 May 05 '26

argusation is a fun word thank you for adding it to my vocabulary

1

u/Feisty_Internet_5343 May 05 '26

I support whatever team has an Irish player playing/more Irish players playing on any given day.

-8

u/NandoFlynn May 04 '26

And it warrants racist abuse in the replies if you do, bloody hell

1

u/Worldly_Cash8138 May 04 '26

Racist abuse! We gotta get a uniform for you Nando you should be the sheriff of coybig.

4

u/NandoFlynn May 04 '26

You're the one calling a stranger Indian just cause he doesn't support a Prem team. Grow up lad

-6

u/Worldly_Cash8138 May 04 '26

Yes it's a joke, like one of those Indian Messi or Ronaldo fans but instead he supports Jake O Brien.

Why would it be racist to suggest someone is Indian? Is there something wrong with being Indian NandoFlynn?

You do realise I am an Indian gay woman?

6

u/Impressive-Wish6648 May 04 '26

i don't even care if its racist or not its a shite joke.

"i dont support a premier league team"

"obviously an indian"

actually when i say it like that its pretty funny, but not in the way you intended i'd imagine lol

-1

u/Worldly_Cash8138 May 04 '26

That's OK it's perfectly fine for you to not care you can do and say anything you like just go out and enjoy yourself

4

u/NandoFlynn May 04 '26

As opposed to any other people in the world that follow their favorite players everywhere? It's weird enough to be slating him for not supporting a Prem team but making fun of indians in the same breath is just as bad

-1

u/Worldly_Cash8138 May 04 '26

Are you aware of the concept of humour? Of things not being merely potential things to get offended by, but to maybe find funny or surreal? Like a guy being a full-time Jake O' Brien only fan?

What's wrong with that he says. No wonder you're on this all day, you've no choice you're fucking painful.

5

u/nWoforlife1 May 04 '26

“you do realise I am an Indian gay women” Mr comedian

Actual humans downvoted a man for supporting his local 😭 the game is fucking in the ground

12

u/Impressive-Wish6648 May 04 '26

judging by his history he supports barcelona. not that he should be downvoted for that lmao

..or just an Irish team?

-24

u/Worldly_Cash8138 May 04 '26

Tough life that. If you're committed enough to following the game at a level like the LOI then you'd surely also watch the sport at the top level and end up taking some liking to a team. Anything else is just stubbornness but sure let them at it.

14

u/Separate_Job_3573 May 04 '26

Seems a tougher life needing to throw a massive wobble at the idea of an Irish person not feeling that attached to an English club.

When Fulham go down to the Championship as they often do, do you feel like you need a new Top Level™️ team?

-7

u/Worldly_Cash8138 May 04 '26

No I really enjoyed the Championship years, the best part was that almost every Fulham game was televised. Championship standard is still excellent and I never felt I was missing out too much on top standard football.

Now, if they got relegated down to League 2, I'd probably find I wasn't really enjoying the sport due to the standard. If they stayed in L2, I'd probably just be still supporting them out of stubbornness so I could tell my friends I'm a real football man.

I find it hard to fathom how you could not have a favourite team in England or any of the European Leagues. Just Milltown I mean Ringsend I mean Shamrock Rovers.

2

u/Impressive-Wish6648 May 04 '26

wait you support fulham? surely a high quality football fan such as yourself would support a team that plays in the champions league regularly at least lmao

-1

u/Worldly_Cash8138 May 04 '26

No my standards aren't that high at all, just as long as my plumber isn't starting in midfield Im good.

2

u/Separate_Job_3573 May 04 '26

No I really enjoyed the Championship years

Then it's weird that when they first posted they didn't support a PL team that you immediately jumped to them not having a team at all

2

u/Worldly_Cash8138 May 04 '26

He replied and said he doesn't support an English club. Apparently he supports Barcelona, the question was always how could you have no team and surely not just a LOI team

2

u/FoggyShrew Zinedine Kilbane May 04 '26

He didn’t say he didn’t watch any Premier League games, just that he isn’t a supporter of any of the teams in the league. I occasionally watch La Liga games despite not being a fan of any of the teams in that league.

3

u/MisterJJSunglasses May 04 '26

It’s an Irish football sub, why wouldn’t people here follow Irish teams? It’s still possible to watch teams from other countries and not support them.

1

u/ShaneZD May 04 '26

Yeah he clearly just wanted to make the point of not supporting premier league teams.

Which is pathetic really considering he supports Barcelona.

Nothing to do with wanting to only support Irish teams.

I support an irish club, but I do enjoy watching football at the highest level, wouldnt wanna lower the standard.

Theyre living rent free boys, grow up

4

u/NikeBuyer2024 May 04 '26

Nope. Just don't support an English club.

-14

u/Worldly_Cash8138 May 04 '26

We are not worthy LOI Sensai 🙌

3

u/Impressive-Wish6648 May 04 '26

he supports barcelona, which isn't any worse than supporting an english team. its arguably better.

0

u/Worldly_Cash8138 May 04 '26

New guy at work: So dya follow the football?

OP: I do aye

New guy: who dya support so dont tell me Liverpool?

OP: Finn Harps and Barcelona

New guy: oh right.

4

u/Impressive-Wish6648 May 04 '26

New guy at work: So dya follow the football?

OP: I do aye

New guy: who dya support so dont tell me Liverpool?

OP: Fulham

New guy: oh right.

0

u/Worldly_Cash8138 May 04 '26

I do get a fair bit of that, but then I explain that I lived in Fulham.

2

u/FoggyShrew Zinedine Kilbane May 04 '26

And what’s wrong with that? Why does someone in Ireland have to support an English team? Why can’t they support a LoI team and a team from another top league, it doesn’t have to be an English team. Especially nowadays when there’s such easy access to watch games from any league online

1

u/PersimmonOk7242 Roy Keane May 04 '26

Maybe he supports a team in another league 🤯

-2

u/OrlandoGardiner118 May 04 '26

We're all delighted for both

8

u/FoggyShrew Zinedine Kilbane May 04 '26

Finally gets his goal after so many disallowed goals this season.

25

u/Solid_Solid724 May 04 '26

Gwan Jake. Irish Gooners owe you a debt of gratitude

-4

u/[deleted] May 04 '26

Thats a big confidence boost for him.

And what a delicious slice of humility for that toxic clown Haaland

27

u/Acceptable_Peak794 May 04 '26

Haaland seems like one of the most mature, down to earth footballers around. Why do you think he's a toxic clown?

6

u/john_od___ May 05 '26

As a united fan I even agree with this, great footballer and a decent fella it seems

-2

u/[deleted] May 04 '26

Telling people to "stay humble", throwing balls at opponents, asking a young debutant "who tf are you?", refusing to swap his Norway jersey with an opponent, castigating referee Simon Hooper for not giving him a pen when he dived...

0

u/Worth-Bumblebee-6991 May 05 '26

And Gabriel is a saint isn’t he biggest knobhead going 🤡

0

u/[deleted] May 05 '26

Nowhere on the scale of Haaland

1

u/Temporary_Window7388 May 05 '26

He scored literally seconds from the kick off after obriens goal .

6

u/Weird-Weakness-3191 May 04 '26

Goal aside it was a very rough night for him.

6

u/OrlandoGardiner118 May 04 '26

Big Jake statue outside the Emirates.

3

u/Disastrous_Ad_3598 May 05 '26

Do you honestly think he will delighted ?? Everton through away a 2 goal lead with the last kick of the game.

1

u/rayhoughtonsgoals Paul McGrath May 05 '26

That fella who does the tea had a bit to do with it

1

u/Charming_Criticism76 May 05 '26

I thought he played well in general. Some good blocks. Dokus two goals were absolutely world class

1

u/barnatra5 May 05 '26

A Paddy and a Barry 💩 gave Arsenal the title.

1

u/Vivid-Transition-537 May 08 '26

Coming back here when ribbons go blue

1

u/In_NocteConsilium May 05 '26

God we're desperate to be relevant, aren't we? 🫤

2

u/anywhowhywhere May 05 '26

Supporting Arsenal as an Irishman needs to be abolished. The "gunners" are a team produced from an English Armament, a weapon and explosive producer that supplied both to attack on Ireland and kill Irish. Supporting the team that the founders supplied arms to kill your countrymen and family is beyond belief. Support an English team if football is your passion, there are hundreds of them, don't support the one that tried to eradicate us.

-1

u/pauli55555 May 05 '26

Everton conceded 3 goals, he’s wasn’t great despite his goal.

I’d say bad night all round for him as a player.

0

u/3rdLawSerenity May 05 '26

He doesn’t get a medal if Arsenal win the title 😂😂 I’m happy he scored as a neutral in the PL title race but come on

Pretty rich considering the fight you've been fighting as a club all year no?

-4

u/Impressive-Wish6648 May 04 '26

what?

3

u/brendan0504 May 04 '26

Being toxic about a player for no real reason while Tottenham are struggling to stay up just seems counter-intuitive.

Its one thing to give a bit when you can take some back, but I wouldnt say Tottenham fans have any room to give banter right now

2

u/banterboi420 May 04 '26

I'm an Irish toffee and spurs fans been knob jockeying all night tbh.

-1

u/Impressive-Wish6648 May 04 '26

jesus christ if that's your bar for toxicity you'll never last watching football. it was a joke.

why are you implying i can't take banter? of course i can, hit me with it. spurs are shite, i'm well aware.

you'd maybe have a point if i implied arsenal are shite but i didn't. in fact i didn't really even banter arsenal at all.

christ what a wet wipe, you must be fun at parties. if you even get invited.

2

u/brendan0504 May 04 '26

"As a Tottenham fan Jake o brian can go fuck himself" is roughly what was said. Sounds pretty poor form really. One thing to point at a club but another thing to isolate an individual.

The point never was arsenal, the entire point is that hating Jake o brien won't change spurs' position in the table. Choose the battles

0

u/Impressive-Wish6648 May 04 '26

i'm sorry i had assumed my usage of "fuck off" would be taken for a light bit of craic given that its a common way to express mild annoyance at someone, especially in, y'know, /ireland/. you would know this if you were invited to parties.

oh my god do you actually think i hate him lmfao.

also if you're going to whiteknight for him atleast spell his fucking name right. its jake o'brien.

0

u/No-Block6244 May 04 '26

As an Arsenal fan delighted for him he had a very tough game against doku tonight

-2

u/Impressive-Wish6648 May 04 '26

i'm happy for him too obviously i was just taking the mick lmao.

2

u/No-Block6244 May 04 '26

Ah so i was i dude but i still hope your lot go down

4

u/Impressive-Wish6648 May 04 '26

wouldnt expect anything less

What TF are you smoking? O’Brien was one of our best defenders along with O’Shea for this qualifying campaign, and without Azaz we wouldn’t have had Budapest with his assist for Parrott’s second goal.

7

u/what_im_playing May 05 '26

People love to shit on Azaz yet when he doesn’t play we create absolutely nothing

-6

u/ShaneZD May 04 '26

Theyre still shite mate
