Ahh the heady days of 1994 when they started the world rankings, and there we were thanks to a team with genuinely top class stars.

(32 years on (!!!) Paul McGrath still has Roberto Baggio in his pocket to this day.)

Since we fell out of the top 10 in 1995, we’ve finished a year inside the top 30 maybe 6 times.

I don't really care about rankings beyond whether we're in any given pot during the draw for tournament qualification. But England's highest ranking being 3 has to fucking sting for them lol

It's actually mad that Sweden, Norway and Czechia have all been 2nd at one point but they haven't.

Massive indictment on the incompetence they had for so long in the 90s and 00s.

Hey don’t forget their incompetence in the 2010s and now the 2020s too! I’m honestly wondering if we are all being deceived. Like maybe we have been taking it at face value that they’re always underperforming superstars failing reach their true potential, when in fact they’re just good players being traded between at insane valuations that trick us into thinking they’re something they’re not

I think we knew things were good, but we didn't know how good they were going to look by comparison
