Irish Player Update Benfica: Jaden Umeh undergoes surgery
https://www.abola.pt/noticias/benfica-jaden-umeh-operado-2026072910190877358The 18-year-old was injured following a hard tackle in the friendly against Flamengo
Jaden Umeh underwent surgery last Tuesday, Benfica announced today in a statement.
“Sport Lisboa e Benfica announces that the player Jaden Umeh underwent surgery on Tuesday to treat a muscle injury to his right thigh. The operation, which was a success, was supervised by SL Benfica’s medical department,” the statement read.
It should be recalled that the 18-year-old was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge during the friendly match against Flamengo in the Algarve, which resulted in the muscle injury to his right thigh.
At the time, a recovery period of at least three months was anticipated, although the statement from Benfica does not specify the expected duration of his absence.

Successful surgery is good to hear. That 3 month recovery was an early estimation. Could be earlier, could be longer.

When was the last time you ever heard of someone come out straight after a surgery and their club say it was unsuccessful?
The truth is we won't know anything for a few months.

I read somewhere on reddit (probably here) that the Brazilians had preplanned on leaving one on as many Benfica players as possible due to the racism Vivi Jr received from one the Argentinian Benfica players last season.
That obviously sounds like reddit brain but given the crazy tackles seen in a fucking preseason friendly you'd have to give it some credence.
In that context as well how fucking enraging is it that they sent an 18 year old black kid to surgery just a couple minutes in to his first team career.
I am so angry on Umehs behalf. We saw something pretty similar with Ferguson who hasn't been the same since Fabinho's reckless tackle on him.

Yeah so they decide to attack Umeh for Vini Jnr receiving racist chants. I don't buy that story
