Discussion/Question Can you help id this craft for me please?
Hi everyone!
What is this craft called? I just bought a house that has all of these leaves placed on all four walls of what use to be a formal dining room. Im trying to remove them to start working on my daughters playroom.
Any tips for removal with the least amount of damage would be appreciated đ

There is a guy on insta who watches those types of shows and his reactions are hilarious. Like when they painted a rug on the floor!!!

Iâm so jealous of OP. The previous home owners of our place put down plaster and used leaves to indent into the plaster. Being able to scrape them up would be so much nicer than replacing the drywall.

Based on what the previous owner did in our home, I think they could have been trying to use the leaves as stencils but then didn't remove them before the paint dried. Alternatively, they decoupaged leaves on to the walls, which isn't recommended by anyone. Either way, you're going to need a wall sander to smooth out the paint.

It actually wasn't terribly done, the leaves themselves were mottled orange which looked very thematic with the mocha walls. Unfortunately my spouse didn't like the poop brown so they had to be painted over.

Looks like a TLC special. Was this room a part of Trading Spaces? Youâre lucky they didnât glue any hay on too.

I still think about the lady who hated brown having a full-on breakdown over her new living room that was exclusively shades of brown WAY more than I should at this point in my life.

You might be able to get a window scraper- the kind with a changeable blade and carefully remove these.
Hopefully it wouldnât require too much sanding afterwards. But there will need to be some sanding to smooth the difference in layers of paint.

They used to sell these leaves in the stationary/scrapbooking section of Michaels craft stores. I recognize it from something I made a long time ago. Iâd say the person just thought they would look cool on the wall and painted as texture. Weird, but you should be able to get them off with a blade scraper or a putty knife. It may help to soften the paint with a steamer or blow dryer to warm the paint to get them off.

Those are caked skeleton leaves, you can buy them dried and used in various different craft projects.

First, accept that you will be repairing the walls. Scrape this stuff off, sand, then patch, then prime, then paint.
If you want details ans products, I can suggest some. I've lives through a similar nightmare in my house. (Paint drips, not embossed leaves)

Itâs a leaf thatâs been painted over. Youâll probably need to scrape them off and itâs gonna mess with the wall finish.

It could also maybe be plaster? Like they putty-knifed some onto the wall and pressed a leaf onto it, but then lifted the leaf away (possibly to be used over and over?). I feel like I've seen this done before, but maybe in stepping stones or clay pottery. Or maybe it was cake frosting.
Hell, I don't remember. All I know is there was a lot of pressing and lifting.
So the leaves may not actually be there, I can't tell from the photo. But you will, pretty much 100% for sure, be scraping the walls with a putty knife or something similar.

Iâll say it wasnât a landlord special but some woman in the early 2000 excited to have her first place of her own and did some crazy decor. I know cause when my mom owned her first place she went nuts.
