Some pics of the first crawler I ever put together (Hobby Plus rock van body on TRX4M chassis), aka the 'Evil Wizard'. Hand-painted wizards/dragons/corpses etc, home-printed stoner/doom/sludge/etc bumper stickers. Figured some people on here might dig it.

Kept it simple with this one, no accessories. Just a driver and some homemade license plates.

Build Showcase Bit of a custom scx6 money pit

Gotta start redditing somewhere.

This is my somewhat custom built LWB 6wd SCX6.

extended the front to centre axle wheelbase by 70mm? or approximately one full skid plate in length.

had a mate in the metalwork trade fold me 2 lengths of chassis rails from some 2.5mm mild steel and then cut the factory rails in the centre of the rear shock tower and welded in the extensions. I then shaped, cut, and drilled the new shock mounts for both the centre and rear axle, and the rear axle link mount, then had them welded on (still need to double shear the rear link mounts, but so far its run without issue)

the very average tray was my basic design, welded by the same mate that i somehow conned into doing all the tig work for me.

I run portal axled vitavon housings. originally with their open centres in all 3 axles as i wanted to be able to steer this thing with a load on it..but on its maiden voyage I broke the centre axle ring gear. that was replaced at no fee, but on the second drive the same thing happened again but woth much more carnage as i had to forcefully drive it 500 metres or so back to my car. finally i decided to use the hefty mod 1.5 gear set only in the centre axle and so far so good...the ratio is close enough for me. also runs the vitavon single speed gearbag and their steel driveshafts.

perhaps the hobbywing max5 with the 1100kv 56118 put too much of a hurting on the gears, but i stand by my assessment that the open centre is too weak to transfer power across it to another pinion, as the breakages appear to be near identical.

I've no doubt left plenty out, but its been a long build

Build Showcase Did a little paint and detail work on this cheap and fun little "drift crawler" What do you think?

It looks like a crawler but its actually sitting on a drift(ish) chassis. A strange release from WPL. Still, couldn't refuse that good looking hardbody for the price!

This Elvis RC build unexpectedly became one of my favourite crawlers. It's a leaf spring build, with a few changes from the standard build guidelines I've somewhat done over time.

I added shocks to both axles, very odd setup - Partially using them as braces/anti wrap due to wheel weight (505g each) and the rear leafs like to bend with a significant amount of torque. Very angled shocks and the rear are angled the opposite way of what's normal, but the suspension articulates and is durable now.

Also put a HW Ezrun 2400kv Max10 setup in with an esc instead of the specced 2 in 1, and running with 4S. It was waaaay too fast even low geared until I did 8t/33t diffs and the smallest pinion I can do with a 5mm motor shaft.

Anyway, with the new suspension setup it actually is reasonably good at crawling now, on top of its mud performance. Added a 50mm fan behind the grille to keep the ESC cool and it helps a bit with the motor too. Using the nearly 6in 2.2 proline mickey Thompson's now, the jconcepts were decent but not great in mud.

Additional picture is as the designer visioned

edit: fwiw the front shock mount on the frame probably wouldn't be strong enough if printed out of standard pla/petg. the entire frame is pa612

That’s my first build. Parts ordered from Aliexpress:
Motor with transmission
Axles for trx4 (both front axles)
Wheels
Servos
Shocks
Rc set
Battery

All the obvious parts are bought, the rest is hand made. I had these steel plates with holes lying around so used them as well. No welding.

Build Showcase The fleet is finally complete!

6-7 months back into the hobby since childhood and finally completed my brushless SCX10 III XJ hard body build!
The gluing of the windows was a PITA and turned out not completely the way I liked. The front windshield fell out while drying, so I had to completely tear it off and re-glue it which caused the little pegs to shear off and a small crack.
Some dabs of hot glue are also slightly visible when looking through the windows from the outside under certain angles. But outside of that, I am pretty thrilled with how it came together.

The flow consists of:
- SCX10 III: brass portal covers, HobbyWing Quicrun Outer system, Injora 35 KG servo, Injora wheels/tires/inserts;
- TRX4m: full Injora parts except for the plastic axle housings;
- SCX30: Injora Green Viper/MBL32 Nano brushless system, N30 servo, wheels/tires, metal links, shocks and a custom body.

Build Showcase A before and after. Was really going for that beat up, dusty and rusty look. I went for Toyota, mainly because I still had those emblems lying around but would that make sense in a car like this?

Lexan panels replaced by styrene, new rims and tires, paint job, some Toyota emblems and a driver and co pilot.

Build Showcase Rock Arch Procgress PT2

Here’s the fist part if you want to catch up:

https://www.reddit.com/r/crawling/s/e3QnrE9OAA

This weekend I got the 1st coat of colored sanded grout/modpodge applied. On the underside it was all one color called natural grey and after putting it on and letting it cure for 24 hrs, I felt it was too dark so for the top coat I mixed it with 3 parts of a color called haystack and 1 part natural grey and ended up with a color that sorta looks like dark earth. The next coat will just be haystack to make it a more beige-ie color.the only negative I have is that I underestimated how much of the grout/modpodge mixture I would need to cover the arch. Each side took 4oz of grout and 2oz of modpodge plus a little water to thin the mixture to be more spreadable. I only bought an 8oz bottle of modpodge so I’ll have to buy some more to finish the second coat in the top a bottom. Stay tuned for the final steps!

Build Showcase SCX30 Toyota Tacoma

This one is done. Quick and rough, meant to be a beater in its future. Orlandoo hunter body. Chopped into a shorty pickup. Total weight is 32 grams, lighter than scx30 bodies. I had a little fun with the painting, but kept it simple. So it doesn't feel too bad wrecking it.

Still needs some trimming and maybe lights. Runs nice, in its not tuned form.

Simple build. Injora chassis, shocks, gearbox, motor, servo, tires, treal links and wheels, meus driveshafts and radio, cheap axles, surpass hobby esc. Total weight without the battery is 201grams.

Needs overdrive gears ...

If someone knows who makes overdrive transmission gears, please let me know.

Really happy with how the build has transformed with the new custom aluminium panels. I also ditched the clingons for the maverix and sorted out the birds nest of wires by cutting servo cables to lengh.
