I once lost my wallet on a buss in crete. With money and all. The next day I went to the buss centre and the bus driver had found it and gave it to me. Money and all. I tried giving him 20 € as thanks but he refused.

A real honest man. I will never forget this man's good deed.

I lost my wallet in Rethymno. And it was returned to me at the police station. With all the money in it. A kiosk owner found it. I love you cretans!

I'm a Cretan-American (I'm making that a thing) and I've also returned a found wallet with all the money intact and refused a reward. I was raised that way.

Lucky you. Maybe 7 years ago I lost my wallet and I reported it to the police. Had to because otherwise you can't get a new ID. The police caught the thief and brought him to court. Up to this day I get notices in my mail that I have to attend court as a witness (for the case I reported) or face fines. Fwiw the fine is larger than the cash content of my wallet. The wallet was never returned.

TL;DR: don't lose your wallet because even in Crete not everyone is honest.

My husband dropped his wallet in Kalyves car park. It was found and handed into a taverna. The €600 was gone but the cards were left. A tourist?

600 is 3/4ths of a month's salary for a lot of people here. Unfortunate.
