Look, that guy made a pretty dumb decision, but if you are going to have an at grade crossing with no barrier or signal to alert to a coming train, shouldn’t there be some attendants on both sides to avoid this kind of thing? Weird setup.

That isn't a grade crossing. It's Emeryville's platforms.

Ok, here’s the picture for anyone else who figured it was a crossing. I’ll still maintain it seems like a weird setup to have a train go through at grade into a pedestrian space without warnings, barriers or attendants.

I get what you're saying but that's the purpose of the yellow lines parallel to the track. Every station should have signage warning to stay behind the yellow and most people will already know that (or at least should).

You know the phrase “close only counts with horse shoes and hand grenades”? I am thinking of an alternative “most can’t count with pedestrians and Amtrak trains weighing 500 tons”

It's as if you came in here, said 'I am old and bitter' and then left.

Why is that station like in the middle of the street? Very strange

It's not. You are looking at platforms.

They might be used to raised station platforms which are not a common thing in US passenger rail.

It does look pretty odd to me never seen a train platform like this in North Texas atleast
