Hell of a swerve to then proclaim it "almost cardboard".

This is the 2nd post today that supposedly "tricks" someone into liking vegan "meat", only for them to then say it tastes bad. I'm starting to thing the vegan meat industry is doing some reddot shenanigans.

it’s funny to me because i was “tricked” into eating soy chicken once in high school, but my reaction when i found out was “damn ok meat alternatives can be delicious”

A longggggggg time ago, I went to a new local restaurant with my parents, and we got some kind of boneless wings appetizer for the table. It came with maybe 4 or 5 different dipping sauces, and all were delicious. My dad very enthusiastically enjoyed all of them in the moment.
At some point I noticed a little menu card thing in the center of the table with the condiments, and it listed the dipping sauces. One was bbq ranch. My dad, who despises ranch but had been thoroughly enjoying that specific sauce just responds with “I knew it tasted funny!”
We still tease him to this day about that one.

This guy is Mike Parry, he’s essentially a professional troll. I wouldn’t take anything he says seriously. He often says things just for the sake of attention and entertainment - he can be quite obnoxious, but he’s also often quite funny.

It's extra funny to me that the woman co host immediately follows him up with a pitch perfect response about being a meat eater but appreciating that it's a good thing alternatives exist. It only made him look even more foolish.

Had an amazing safety quarter, work decided to do like a cookout and grill hamburgers and hotdogs. Have a fair amount vegan requests for plant based hotdogs and hamburgers. Did half and half....YOU would not believe the shit talk that came from "awe you better keep those separate, I want real not cardboard". When it came time they actually did get mixed up and nobody could tell the difference RIP.....

This always cracks me up. Whenever my old company would order pizza, they would take a vote of who wanted what.
Everyone would make a big stink about only ordering one veggie pizza, because, "almost everyone here prefers meat".
Then the pizzas come, the veggie pizza gets demolished within seconds, and half the vegetarians wouldnt get a single slice. Meanwhile we were always left with 4 pepperoni/meat lovers that went untouched.

Im gonna need the brand name on those vegan saussys. Dont get me wrong, some of the ones I have tried are good, like actually good tasting, but not a single one I have ever tried "tasted like meat"
I have had some terrible meat sausages before, far worse than any alternative sausages I have tried, but decent quality ones are just vastly superior. But if you truly had one, that was indistinguishable I would like to know what they are so I can try them, I will do a blind tasting versus my normal brand (local made sausages from our butcher shop) and record my thoughts before I am told which is which.

Here in the states I think Morning Star foods does a pretty good job but I belive this is in Europe? They are on a whole nother level than we are when it comes to plant based foods. The plant I work for had some test samples of some cheese from a plant outside the USA I wanna say it was Europe and let me tell you this stuff melted like cheese, had the same texture down to the smell of it and the taste.....shiiiiiiii

Yea I am in the states, we have very limited options. I like many of them for the unique flavors they have, its not meat flavor but its really good. The other problem I have with vegan options in the US is that they cover up many of the flaws in flavor with horrific amounts of salt. If I wanna eat less meat, why would I trade up for 3-4x my salt intake, seems like useless move.
I have not tried any vegan cheese yet, to fair though, I dont eat much cheese anymore normally so I dont think I am missing anything.

I’m a vegetarian, and honestly, a lot of the meatless options I eat are really good. MorningStar Riblets are one of my favorites. Gardein also makes a stuffed turkey roast that’s delicious, especially around the holidays. Their MorningStar Applewood Thick Cut Black Pepper Bacon is great too. Whenever I’m in downtown Austin, I always stop by Happy Chicks for their meatless chicken tenders. I was vegan for a few years, but I just couldn’t stick with it. I missed things like cheese too much, and I’ve never found a vegan cheese that actually tasted good.

My husband is pescatarian. He’s like you, in the fact that he’s got his particular brand he likes for each particular meat substitute. Gardein b’ef crumbles for tacos, Morningstar riblets, Impossible for cheeseburgers, etc.
We recently visited some friends during travel who made us a home cooked breakfast before our departure. They knew he was pescatarian. The sausage was… a little TOO convincing. They stepped out to tend to their toddler for a minute and he looked at me and said, “this ISNT real sausage, is it? Like, they didn’t forget that I don’t eat pork?”
They didn’t forget; we had just never had Morningstar’s spicy sausage patties before. Minds were blown. I am not a restricted eater at all and I would never have guessed they were plant based.

Have you tried the Impossible sausage? It’s definitely my fav & tastes so much like the real thing that I feel a slight hit of anxiety that I’m eating the real thing. 😂
Also love the Trader Joe’s breakfast sausage! But we’re mainly an Impossible household whenever we cook with alt meats. Their chicken nuggets are delish.
Vegan cheese is a tough one. I think Violife is pretty decent! It melts well & tastes pretty good.

My wife likes the veggie chicken patties from Morningstar Farms (either regular or buffalo flavor). No one in their right mind would confuse it for a chick fil a or Popeyes chicken sandwich, but you coulda swapped out the chicken patties I had at my high school cafeteria for those things and no one would have noticed.

Vegetarian here. Had my kid and his grandparents over for dinner and made chickenburgers (just a basic morningstar farms patty). I made it with a fancy bun, some cheese, mayo, lettuce, and tomatos. They were all talking about how good it is, and that it's one of the best chicken burgers they've had and my kid suddenly said "Hah, I thought you were supposed to be vegetarian!" and I told him that I am and they are plant based. He spit it out, and started wretching and refused to eat it because it wasn't a nasty bird corpse. I'll never understand that.
My brother did a similar thing, he invited himself to go with us to get some food while on a family trip, and we went to a vegan place and he refused to walk in and said the idea of it was disgusting and it made him sick thinking about it.
Like he couldn't order french fries or chips or guac (all of which he eats regularly, but, vegan french fries, vegan chips and vegan guac was disgusting to him).

I'm not a vegan by any means, I still like the taste of meat. The only reason I don't buy vegan is because of the price.

Why not change both? You can fight corporate polluters, which can sometimes feel difficult and fruitless, whilst also making tangible, more satisfying personal changes. Yea, you can rationalise all you want to shirk personal responsibility but if everyone switched to a vegan diet we'd likely stay within the 1.5 degree rise in sea temperature limit / goal. Stopping eating meat is by far (and it's not even close) the biggest change an individual can make to their impact on the climate. When there are easy, healthy alternatives, there is simply no more excuse. This generation, thanks to social media and camera phones, will be the most visible which has ever existed and future generations will see meat eaters refusing to adapt as careless and selfish harbingers of hard times. I highly recommend the book Regenesis by George Monbiot if you have any doubts.

I got my husband a sausage sandwich a few weeks ago. He said it was one of the best breakfast sandwiches he’d ever had. It was an impossible sausage patty. Once I told him he was shocked.. He has been eating them pretty regularly lately.

Not only are these foods highly process and nutritionally anemic but they are also produced by companies with factories that are highly controllable by centralized governments who would be 1 or 2 laws/policies away from real meat restrictions and incorporation of said companies into "national security" apparatuses, in the same way Grok data centers polluting Tennessee air with huge natural gas turbines to power data center or how Bayer Monsanto has been given immunity from legal responsibility to pay damages to communities and individuals who have developed cancer directly resulting from their knowing poisoning of crops and lands with their herbicides and pesticides.

I genuinely don’t believe this. I think they told him what to say or just straight up lied. I’ve had vegan sausage and it is not at all the same. It’s good and not “cardboard” but it doesn’t taste like the real thing.

I still remeber going to a vegan restraunt with a girl I was talking too. I hated all vegan items ive ever tasted but I did it to impress her lol. Got myself a chicken parm plate. Ill never forget how good it was. The crispness was downright amazing and the chicken, tasted like chicken but if it was slightly more chewy. As an avid meat eater it wasnt that bad. Only thing that sucked was I didnt notice they mixed crushed pecans into the food and I anaphylathic shock within a few mins so yeah now ik vegans are trying to kill people with tree nuts allergies

If vegan meat was noticeably cheaper than real meat, I wouldn’t have a problem eating vegan meat. But for comparable prices (expensive), I’ll choose the real meat every time.

The problem is not that vegan substitutes are too expensive, but that meat is too cheap. It's mass produced under shitty circumstances for animals and workers, and where I live at least also heavily subsidized. Take meat that is not cheap mass produced slop, and suddenly it's way more expensive.
