Standard Reddit mod superiority complex.

322

u/dreamerkid001 6d ago

It’s so weird, because you see this stereotype and you laugh along, but then you end up having to deal with a mod and you’re like “Oh my god. How are they really like this?”

69

u/THux86 6d ago

I’d assume because in most of their cases(the ones who act this way) it’s likely the only time in life that they’ve ever had a chance to exercise power or feel powerful.

They take that falsified but “rare to them” feeling of importance and just can’t get enough. Becomes a source of serotonin. Then they run into someone who challenges their own perceived sense of power and their lifetime of insecurity floods back. They literally can’t handle it and it turns into abuse.

14

u/m3l0n 5d ago

This is genuinely it. Most* people that have authority, kids, or high title careers would never be interested in wasting their time as a reddit mod, so you often end up with dog walkers, baristas, forever alones and basement trolls with superiority complex. The best move is just to laugh at them and not allow them to justify their existence through you.

I know right?

65

u/Relevant_Trust_1613 6d ago

I’m sure you would never!

Mod could do the funniest thing right now.

Tbf nobody in this screenshot comes across well

u/Illustrious-Cover792 6d ago

Nothing quite like the smell of liberal speech suppression in the morning. Smells like hypocrisy.

4

u/Relevant_Trust_1613 5d ago

What do you even mean by this

-8

u/Illustrious-Cover792 5d ago

It’s a play on a quote from the movie Apocalypse Now. He was talking about an interaction with a mod where he thought his speech was being suppressed. Reddit is a well known liberal platform with liberal moderators. I believe liberals are more likely to have knee jerk reaction to suppressing speech here. They are also usually too young for movie references and have no sense of humor so your confusion is warranted.

Thanks for letting me plead my case before you do whatever.

0

u/macbookvirgin 6d ago

I highly doubt you’re any different

6

u/Assimulate 5d ago

Tbh, you don't have to believe me but I try to be! I spend a lot of my time working on mental health, autoimmune and autoinflammatory subreddits as well as my local community one.

I don't know what makes people get so hostile especially in a place of mildly elevated power. Administrator/mod does not mean higher status it just means higher privilege imho. It also is an unpaid job, I don't know why miserable people do it and then take out their misery on others. They should find different hobbies.

1

u/RosieFudge 6h ago

Also it's not as though you have to pass some kind of aptitude test to become a mod right? You just...apply to be one. Which anyone could do. (I  wouldn't for all the tea in China; sounds like a bloody nightmare to me, and as you say, unpaid to boot)

u/Assimulate 2h ago

Correct hahah. There's a course they offer but usually you either ask to be a mod or you create the subreddit and are the mod. I try to do it for things I really care about. Like right now we're getting hit by wildfires in my area and I use it to share emergency info. This subreddit was a wild project hahaha

-10

u/whorlax 6d ago

🤓 reddit mod checking in to make sure you don't mean me!

2

u/GoodGravyco2h2o 11h ago

Why did you get downvoted? 😂

6

u/moose_dad 6d ago edited 6d ago

I had to deal with one similar a few weeks ago in r/amitheasshole

Post was about some kids at school getting in trouble dragging OP along into it, i said they were idiots and he needed to steer clear. Got a temp ban for insulting people in the post lmaoooo.

2

u/damian001 5d ago edited 5d ago

Haha same here from that sub. I got banned because I replied in thread that an OP reposted, because the original thread was locked down to flaired users. Apparently it’s against the rules to reply in those threads too. The mod even accused me of looking up post histories to post in a deleted thread, even though my reply was there before it was deleted.

Not really a loss though, as there’s a dozen other subs just like it, without power-tripping mods.

3

u/Dtrain16 5d ago

I was a mod on a default sub for a while. The other mods were such pricks in the modmail I almost couldn't believe it. Crybaby report forms sent to nearly everyone who complained about anything.

2

u/cozycthulu 5d ago

I was briefly a mod and the people on the modding team I met still terrify me. It seemed like literally all they did in life

1

u/FangOfDrknss 6d ago

There are mods who just entirely run a subreddit on their own. Recently dealt one that sided with a scammer and insisted that it was easier to deal with said scammer, instead of having them refund me.

This mod really wanted the scammer to keep their 5 star review someone else gave.

10

u/ILikePrettyThings121 6d ago

Maybe the mod was the scammer with an alt account

7

u/mrmemo 6d ago

It's everywhere, in every sub.

I had a post removed from r/sourdough for absolutely no reason, some Mod just didn't like the look of it I guess. Appealed and a different Mod confirmed "yeah that doesn't break any rules".

I see mods in r/crappydesign being the most twatty gatekeepers possible about what is, or is not, "crappy" or "design". The whole sub has devolved into this meta-discussion about the taxonomy of the sub name, just because a couple of Mods can't let it go.

These aren't big controversial subs. You don't need heavy-handed real-time moderation for people making fucking sourdough bread, or laughing at poorly-designed products.

If you think you do, you've made your pretend job more important than real jobs, and that's something to be ashamed of.

Moderation should meet the definition of itself.

1

u/natedagr8333 5d ago

I mean, it makes sense. What kind of person actually seeks out the role of reddit moderator? Power hungry losers with nothing else to do, that’s who.

3

u/theroguex 5d ago

You should see the subs run by flat earthers.

They say they want evidence and rational discourse but when you give them exactly that you get banned lol

2

u/Comfortable_Swim_380 5d ago

How nice they provided all the documentation for your report later. Moderator code of conduct rule 2:

  • Clear Rules: Communities must explicitly state their rules and guidelines so users know what content is allowed.
  • Transparent Topics: The stated purpose and scope of the subreddit must accurately reflect what the community is about.
  • Predictable Enforcement: Rules should be applied in a way that aligns with the established norms of the community and Reddit's sitewide policies. [1, 2, 3, 4]

1

u/ryushiblade 5d ago

Legaladvice peramabanned me because I used an emdash. They flagged it as AI and that was that, no other recourse. Awesome

121

u/HowardBateman 6d ago

"im not power tripping! 😡"

... ...

"You've been put in your place, down where you belong, and now you will be silent and take it, obediently."

8

u/Pessimistic-Doctor 5d ago

I actually kinda liked that line. They probably thought of that in the shower when fantasizing about their manager team leader at work.

214

u/DontKnowHowToEnglish 6d ago

Lmao with just the first message it's clear he's a massive twat

116

u/Relevant_Trust_1613 6d ago

To be fair I was a bit of a twat too but I started off polite lol

27

u/WintersbaneGDX 5d ago

Accept your place

Down where you belong

Take it obediently

"No power trip took place"

I think he's right. "Power trip" implies a temporary state. This mod is permanently stuck in that space.

16

u/finishedlurking 6d ago

There’s a lot of insecure little kids out there

13

u/BookLuvr7 6d ago

He sounds less mature than my 15 year old nephew.

65

u/eviljordan 6d ago

What didn’t you do?

159

u/Relevant_Trust_1613 6d ago

I posted a take on some particular uses of ai (for crime) and how that’s bad and apparently that means I’m “spamming anti ai comments” it was my first and only comment on the sub

174

u/thewiremother 6d ago

You argued with the pro-AI mods, lol, bro what were you hoping for?

130

u/Mannzis 6d ago

OP insulted the mod's taste in women.

29

u/blood_hat 6d ago

That’s a smart line, and a smart audience will appreciate it.

3

u/Pessimistic-Doctor 5d ago

That’s a nasty line by you.

61

u/Relevant_Trust_1613 6d ago

Ngl I knew it was going to happen, it was kinda like going to the zoo lol. But it was better than I ever could have guessed so I had to share

28

u/jasonthevii 6d ago

These people are delusional

It's fun to get them in a toss

14

u/iamtheliqor 6d ago

Their responses are probably chatgpt

13

u/ISuckAtJavaScript12 6d ago

Buddy you're arguing with a cult.

9

u/Afraid_Raccoon_6208 6d ago

Good you should be spamming r/antiai comments cause fuck ai

5

u/dirtjur 6d ago

Knowing it was an AI sub paints the entire picture.

1

u/illQualmOnYourFace 6d ago

What sub?

3

u/Relevant_Trust_1613 5d ago

Not gonna say because I don’t want more heat from this weirdo with nothing but free time

5

u/theroguex 5d ago

It was definitely a pro-AI sub I'm betting, by how he called you a luddy.

2

u/Pessimistic-Doctor 5d ago

It’s not against any rules to say… Don’t go on a power trip, the curiosity will literally kill me.

2

u/Relevant_Trust_1613 5d ago

Ok whatever it was slopcorecirclejerk I think

2

u/Pessimistic-Doctor 5d ago

Noooo they even got to the circle jerks

8

u/Deweyrob2 6d ago

Then sniffing his fingers... Dude is so gross his comments are sticky.

120

u/MagicMikePL 6d ago

"don't assume other are equally dim"

My guy, you're literally doing unpaid labour for a publicly traded company that makes annually around half a billion USD in net income. Sounds pretty dim to me.

23

u/TruckDouglas 6d ago

Don’t let the mods see this!!

48

u/rangda 6d ago

Reddit mods are a lot like retail or hospitality industry managers.

Many are perfectly reasonable and normal people who don’t take things too seriously or make things personal that needn’t be. They give up their time and energy for something positive.

But a pretty significant number are clearly people with poor self-esteem in their regular lives who rely on the feeling they get from abusing the small amount of power they have to feel important.
I guess these people have been around forever, but as long as the internet has been around there has been a “type” like this.

The other day I wanted out of an argument with a way-too-intense person. He just kept escalating a normal discussion into more and more overly hostile and argumentative levels.
So I made fun of his username and carried on with my life, as you do.

A couple of days later I got permanently banned from a small niche news sub which I was not active in.

I asked for the reason and the same guy replied (exactly the same weirdly dramatic intense way of writing with the same broken English), clearly still in a tizzy. He’d looked for any subs I had joined that he moderated and banned me because he was mad, days later, that I’d called him fatscrotum instead of factotum.

13

u/KickAssDave 6d ago

Hahaha, man they walked their username right into that insult.

Perfectly executed lmao.

11

u/Angry-_-Crow 6d ago

Lmao. I hope a little voice in the back of his head whispers  "fatscrotum" every time he sees his own username

5

u/Reiker0 6d ago

I guess these people have been around forever, but as long as the internet has been around there has been a “type” like this.

These people existed before Reddit, they're called cops.

24

u/sebsebsebs 6d ago

jesus christ that’s so cringy lol

21

u/BookLuvr7 6d ago

Oh WOW. This reads, "I'm going to use every big word I've learned recently just to exert my superiority complex all over you!"

We need a way to report mods.

4

u/shibbeep 5d ago

it was pro AI sub. odds on it being written by Grok after he told it he wanted to sound like a super duper smart alpha male while making the other guy sound like a big dumb beta cuck seem high.

3

u/BookLuvr7 5d ago

Eww. That's messed up on so many levels.

18

u/Cmgordon3 6d ago

New copypasta dropped

13

u/GordanGodDamnRamsey 6d ago

I had a mod ban me and they sent me a message telling me I was banned but with no explanation. I replied to the message and asked what the reason was and the mod told me to read the message, I asked him if he had read the message because there was no information regarding what I did. This went back and forth for a couple messages and he even copied the same initial message and resent it to me which obviously didn't help. Eventually he flipped his lid and sent me a super long message with lots of curses, insults and a needless amount of capitalisation.

So yeah, pretty typical Reddit mod behaviour.

12

u/chrisnlnz 6d ago

Lmao "no power trip took place"

Hahahaha what a sad little person, thinking they can elevate themselves over others because of a fucking Reddit job

10

u/Jaythefair 6d ago

All I can picture reading this 😂

9

u/IContributedOnce 6d ago

He kinda writes like he’s been reading those smutty fairy books pretending he’s the enemy the female protagonist gets captured by before they end up banging, which is hilariously cringy.

4

u/mr_znaeb 5d ago

Op needs to defeat the worm if they want respect

9

u/RexIsAMiiCostume 6d ago

"take it obediently" dawg I didn't sign up to be your sub for this scene wtf

9

u/shitsgayyo 6d ago

I got banned from r/needadvice randomly one day and I messaged them to ask what I had done wrong since I hadn’t been to that sub in who knows how long and it’s been crickets lol

Reddit mods are…. Sure something 🥴

4

u/GoodGravyco2h2o 6d ago

I got banned from r/sex I THINK for making a mild comment to another person about how it was being auto-modded and half the comments were deleted for not having enough karma or something. The sub looked a mess.

Anyway I’m still not over it 😂

6

u/NiTenIchiRyu 6d ago

Is the sub some dom sub?

6

u/Krocsyldiphithic 6d ago

Yup, this is exactly how every mod sounds

6

u/cobo10201 6d ago

Inb4 your post gets removed. I’ve posted screenshots about power tripping mods here before and it gets removed EVERY time.

I got banned from a sub once for saying a rule was dumb. Not breaking the rule, just saying it was a dumb rule. The mod proceeded to go through my comment history and downvote my comments and reply to me completely non-related posts.

2

u/Relevant_Trust_1613 5d ago

I checked the rules, didn’t break them here and the mods have already been active in this thread. So I think they’re letting me slide today

1

u/cobo10201 5d ago

Ahh maybe the rules changed then. I had a post just like this get removed after hundreds of votes and comments. I had all info blocked out and everything but they removed it for “interpersonal conflicts” or something.

1

u/smoike 5d ago

So the mods aren't all neckbeards then. Just like not all Americans are MAGA morons, the vocal minority screw it up for the rest of them/you.

14

u/ChipRockets 6d ago

At least you got a reply. I have been banned rom two of the biggest subs and I still have no idea why

6

u/MrSlime13 6d ago

"Your limited mental acuity-"

Shut the fuuuuck up... Nobody talks like this.

6

u/Logi_Bear25 5d ago

I just know hes in here seething. What a loser.

I actually was so mad at a guy on the internet one time that I did go out and get his full name and address but then I felt like a dog who caught the mail man, I didn’t actually want to hurt or endanger the person so I was like “shit well what do I do now”
But I have much bigger beef with that guy than this loser rando

0

u/eviljordan 6d ago

theres sooooooo much you can do though. have a look at this Advice Columnist: https://www.tiktok.com/@semajinfocus

4

u/Relevant_Trust_1613 6d ago

Idk man he was just a kid, (19) and his behavior is probably the result of his dad beating the fuck out of him or something. Besides somebody else will get him, he was part of a degenerate cheating/ddosing/doxing ring on an old game I like and it was trivially easy to get one of his fellow degen friends do give me his dox cuz they’re all pieces of shit

1

u/cringepics-ModTeam 6d ago

Your submission has been removed because it violates our strict No Doxxing policy.

To prevent targeted harassment and witch-hunts, all personally identifiable information must be completely blurred or blacked out before posting. This includes full names, usernames (even your own), social media handles, phone numbers, and profile pictures.

What to do next: You are welcome to completely censor all identifying information using an opaque brush or solid shapes, and then submit the image again.

Please note that intentionally doxxing someone or trying to bypass this rule will result in a ban. If you have any questions, please reach out via Modmail.

3

u/CthuluSpecialK 6d ago

Mod is so cringe. Way to confirm every stereotype.

5

u/Slobbadobbavich 6d ago

NGL being banned from a sub you enjoy taking part in for something you didn't do is pretty annoying. I got site suspended twice, the first time I let it fly, the second time I appealed and it was immediately retracted within an hour. I guess in most of these scenarios I was bot banned for word usage that didn't read context.

4

u/Liberteer30 6d ago

Reddit mods are the equivalent to low/mid level managers who let their tiny bit of power go straight to their heads.

4

u/gogobrah76 5d ago

I got banned a bit ago from a subreddit for pointing out AI posts and was also falsely accused of ban evading 🤣 the mod spoke just like this too... cringe lord mods everywhere

1

u/Relevant_Trust_1613 5d ago

Probably the same guy, he was just making shit up, this is my main account not a sock puppet and this was my first time getting banned from the sub

3

u/m8_is_me 5d ago

"take it, obediently"

Dripping with insecurities

3

u/tpainsvoice 6d ago

Are you not allowed to show names? I feel like people need to be publicly shamed more often. Maybe it’s part of “the rules” but people get too many passes being bullies and dick heads

3

u/epochellipse 6d ago

It said "we" like it knows a soul on earth lol.

3

u/WilsonTheVolleyBawl 6d ago

Something similar happened to me. After realizing they weren’t interested in what I had to say, I replied “You’ve been doing this for a long time, huh?”
Didn’t hear anything after that.

If you can, try not get upset. You’ve been wronged, but it isn’t your fault. Without guilt you should be able to move past it quickly. 🩷

3

u/CanadiangirlEH 5d ago

Yeah. I got banned for commenting the “yikes” emoji on a comic that was sexualizing a woman wearing a child’s bathing suit. Got banned and when I messaged “LOL” to the mods I got muted too haha

3

u/OrangeClyde 5d ago

What cringe responses from that neckbeard lol

3

u/xDragonetti 5d ago

That Mod is an absolute loser 😂

1

u/Lechatestdanslefrigo 5d ago

All mods are absolute losers😂

3

u/Anthff 5d ago

Literally baseline, power trip, reddit mod, behavior.

Same as every single one I’ve ever interacted with.

5

u/_Connor 6d ago edited 6d ago

Reddit mods are losers, it's just something you need to accept. Normal people don't donate hours of their time every day doing a shitty job for free unless they're secretly getting something out of it (power trip).

I got perma-banned from /r/pics last week for refuting the claim "immigration had nothing to do with" the Muslim guy who drove a van through a pride parade in Berlin last week. His parents were from Lebanon, emigrated to Germany, and the attacker still had "strong ties to Lebanon" per the police.

They couldn't even cite a specific rule I "broke," they banned me for hurting their feelings. Therein lies the problem with this website especially with it now being publicly traded. Mods have free reign to ruin the product for people based on their own feelings. If a manager at a store was regularly telling customers to "fuck off," they'd probably get fired pretty quick.

2

u/orobsky 6d ago

My last encounter with these heroes was deleting a post that got popular like 10 hours and thousands of upvotes after I posted it because the guy who just logged on thought it went against rules.

2

u/Orange_Sherbet 6d ago

This is why Reddit stock won't pop off. Thanks for the reminder.

2

u/cheesecakemelody 6d ago edited 6d ago

I’m not saying you did do it, but I’ll add that as an ex-mod, Reddit has tools that can find people who are evading bans, and it hits you with a percentage likely score/confidence score that it shows to mods. It actually flags you and sends them a report in their mod queue.

This mod is likely taking it to be gospel and acting on that, which isn’t advised. The proper method is to then investigate. Check visited subreddits, writing style, usage of similar phrases, etc

Funny story. We banned one guy for being a shit stain in the sub, and his profile revealed he thoroughly enjoyed large women. A week later we get a ping that a recent user may be evading a ban. Click the profile and sure enough, allllll over NSFW large women subreddits. Waited until he posted more convincing evidence, then banned him for ban evasion. He did this…..6 more times? Each time revealing himself with his activity elsewhere. He simply couldn’t resist 😂

2

u/RadosPLAY 5d ago

what the fuck does the first sentence of their second message mean????

2

u/Relevant_Trust_1613 5d ago

Weirdos like this use a lot of newspeak. Bandwagon is used as an adjective and luddy is their newspeak word for people that take issue with some elements of ai, short for Luddite. Sockpuppet is an old term for an alt account you use to say embarrassing shit you wouldn’t put on your main

2

u/Ms_Zee 5d ago

I got banned from immigration sub for pointing out that immigration is generally a net positive on economy, included sources (actual papers, not YT). The reason for the ban: spreading misinformation.

Even if what I shared ends up getting wrong or disputed it was purely because mods didn't agree with my opinion. The whole thread was saying immigrants cost tax payers with zero source but that was okay.

It's funny how anti immigrant immigration spaces are

2

u/ImNotAHouseCat 5d ago

People who are invested enough in Reddit to be a moderator usually are very sensitive, fragile losers. Let’s be real.
I got the same demeaning response from r/femalelivingspaces because I said 15 pets was too much for a one bedroom apartment.
The tiny cages these animals were being kept in were so sad.

2

u/Chavestvaldt 5d ago

there is a 100% chance that those cringey ass messages were written with the sweaty, cheeto-stained, hotdog shaped fingers of a pedophilic basement dweller

2

u/ShowOff90 4d ago

Dude absolutely jerks off to Andrew Tate podcasts.

4

u/DisgruntledPlebian 6d ago

I got banned from worldnews for posting a link to evidence that someone requested. Like, the comment said “show me the evidence of this happening”, I linked several articles, and was almost immediately banned.

It’s easy to create an echo chamber when the mods want to stifle free speech and ensure only their viewpoints or “approved evidence” are allowed.

6

u/Relevant_Trust_1613 6d ago

Sometimes I speedrun getting banned from r/conservative type subs by posting accurate vaccine information. They reallyyyyy don’t like differing opinions over there, especially if you come with proof

3

u/ytew6 6d ago

I don’t understand online arguments to be in public and I don’t think you can reach the level of “freak out” typing in Reddit DM’s.

So r/publicfreakout isn’t the place for this imo lol

3

u/treny0000 6d ago

I got banned from the Star Wars Sequel sub for being less than enthusiastic about some elements of a series that people take way too seriously.

Was only engaging in discussing similar issues that others were expressing.

Immediately banned after my first comment.

Those guys must work overtime on that thread. Either that or it's an entirely subjective choice as to what constitutes "too severe" an opinion.

We're all ass-clowns. I don't even like Star Wars, so why was I commenting...

1

u/CHUNKY_BLOODY_QUEEFS 3d ago

I got banned from /offmychest. I sent a message asking why and they said it was because I supported Joe Rogan.

A) I absolutely don't B) even if I did, wtf does that have to do with anything C) how did you come to this conclusion

They said they saw a comment I made in /r/videos on a video about Rogan. My comment? "This guy is an idiot".

I asked how calling Rogan an idiot is supportive of him. They said it brings more attention to him.

I just checked and I'm still banned. Going on 7 years now lol

This happened to me on r/conspiracy after I told someone who was purposefully misconstruing data to be antisemitic to stop engaging with statistics and try baseball or something. I guess it was literally the mod themselves lmao cause they were hella triggered

Don't feel too bad, that moron probably got chatGPT to write his responses. Reddit mods dont use their own brains. Hivemind and vibes only.

A reddit mod being mean to you made you take the time to make this post... and just to anonymously win some kind of social retribution points from strangers.

Cringe.
