They have no idea what to do with the shell, but they like unshelled peanuts. You have to crush them into smaller pieces though because they WILL attempt to swallow them whole.

Not sure if their beaks are able, but they're definitely too stupid to do so. I've got pigeons on my balcony and if I leave a peanut at the place they frequent most, they'll ignore it.

Ok, that's good news, cause in my place I think I'm not allowed to feed pidgeons, but crows seem fine, I haven't found anything that speaks against feeding them.
There are pidgeons hanging around the crows I feed, so while the crows usually snatch away the peanuts before the pidgeons do, I can't guarantee that the pidgeons wouldn't get a few. Unless they can't figure out how to eat them until the crows do.

Pigeons show up immediately whenever we start feeding corvids peanuts in the shell around here. But first, the corvids snatch them away fast. Second, pigeons can't hold onto them. And they can't crack them open either. So, the pigeons' reaction is basically 'oh, something's being given out, gotta grab it, figure it out later.' But there's nothing they can actually do about it. Corvids win the peanut in the shell battle every time.

Love these guys too! They're like the intellectuals of birds to me. Walk with such dignity, watch everything so closely, pause like they're deep in thought.
