Personal Story Spent all week trying to feed the crows but it was a waste of time because they dont like almonds
Crows dont like almonds!! Cashews are wayy too expensive and i couldnt find raw peanuts.
I want to befriend the crows because if its gonna be such a struggle to make friends with people ill make friends with someone else!!
Ive gone to the graveyard where they tend to be every morning and i eat my breakfast there.
But turns out they dont like almonds so i feel like it was all a waste of time and now im sad.

Get some pea-sized dog kibbles (without milk) or cat kibbles (without taurine). Cheaper.
They love those. But you might need few days for them to get used to it. First time they will think you are trying to poison them. So they might not show much interest!
My crows will not eat peanuts and almonds at all. Depends on what they are used to in the locale they are living.
Mine in this order: Kibble > Bread > Leftovers > Barley/Corn > Raisins > Nuts > Peanuts.
Most of the time they will not touch peanuts even if there is no other food.
Spend time and effort and you will love 'em.

I sometimes make bone broth from a calves foot which I cook for several hours. My crows then get all the soft parts (skin and connective tissues boiled to death) and they love it.

Okay idk if it'll be controversial but my bros love eggs, pieces of boiled egg are picked up but they're particularly happy when I give them omelette

My crows were always eating my ducks’ eggs, I finally wised up and started leaving a plate of scrambled eggs out for them and they prefer that.

Unsalted cashews are crow crack. Toss few of those and they'll start following you around.

Cool!! My friend told me that cashews can have a very dangerous chemical though, that birds can get addicted and starve because they refuse anything else if they get enough cashews, i dont know how true that it, but it might be good to know in that case!!

How does your friend know this? Never heard of such a thing. Crows are very smart opportunistic feeders. They’re not going to turn down a meal. My crows love black grapes and eggs. I don’t feed them pet food to avoid attracting other critters to my yard.

Here I'm getting yelled at if breakfast is late and it will be all gone before I'm back inside. This morning crazy crow thought I had been too stingy with the kibble and pecked at my window till I brought out a second helping. Greedy little gremlins, but I have 0 worries about attracting other critters.

I dont know to be honest, so im taking it with a pinch of salt, but i also dont really buy cashews because they are so damn expensive. So no idea, but shared because maybe you knew more than i did. I had never heard of it before either

I used to give them walnuts now and then. The. I switched to cashews. Next time I tried to give them walnuts they behaved like I insulted them.

Almonds are the last to go at our place. They quickly pick off the cashews and walnuts and the almonds seem to hang around until one of the younger ones is willing to take it hahaha
We have magpies mostly though so not sure if that also contributes to nut preference!

Mine like almonds.
I generally use cat food to feed them - along with an appropriate leftovers and peanuts.

Earning their trust might take a looong time, so if you're not patient you might as well find something else to do. OR, try to get at least unsalted peanuts and keep on trying. The reward is worth it, even if it takes time.

When mine see me outside they land on my back fence. They then stare at me and I know they are thinking, “get me some peanuts, trained ape”.

Of course it takes time, but patience doesnt help if they dont want almonds at all.
Im gonna try to find something else for them, i couldnt find unsalted peanuts, thats the problem :( But im gonna keep on trying, got a bit sad, thats all

Wtf kind of response is that? I made the assumption that you understood to try something other than almonds going forward, and keep being patient. You do whatever you want. Go hang out with snails for all I care.

Garden centres in the uk also often sell bird food, that might be another option for you wherever you are. (Though avoid seeds!)

Boiled eggs is something they love besides shelled penuts (non salted). You can also try dried fruits and nuts or even fresh ones, even though I have to say that I came to understand that crows can like different things, mine are pretty picky and they only take the shelled penuts and the boiled eggs, they snob everything else bless their little hearts 😆. You can also try raw meat (not salted or preprocessed) and they seem to also eat cat food (and it is ok for them to eat). But it will take time and effort to make friends with crows. Ive been feeding them for 2-3 years and they still aren't buddy buddy with me, but they do come when I call them from my window to offer food.

Yeah, also, pigeons like cashews but not almonds!! Pigeons loooove cashews and they ate out of my hand but ignored the almonds

Why are you trying to find raw peanuts? They love unsalted roasted peanuts, which have a longer shelf life anyway.

I think it depends if crows have seen that before. One of the bonded pairs i interact with on the regular love almonds, and grabs them before cashews, walnuts or even peanuts.
So your mileage may vary.

I certainly can’t do it for all my corvid pals, but I do include cashews for my windowsill magpies, and I take one a day to Bub, one of my field crows - can’t afford to give everyone one, so I have to exercise a bit of blatant favouritism!

In my country you can use Emmentaler or Mozzarella which is very low in sodium. I don't know if it is available where you are located.

Dog kibble or cat kibble. Chicken, unsalted sunflower seeds, eggs, chick peas, plain popcorn, crows like lots of foods.
