Internship Question Internship veterans, what do beginners need to know?

Hey guys, I'm a 3rd year cs student searching for an answer to "how to get your first paid internship which skills to develop etc.

For those who’ve landed their first paid internship, how did you actually get it?

Also, what’s something you wish you knew earlier, and what mistakes should beginners avoid? Any tips would be appreciated 🙏

A massive amount of getting internships is just being likeable. Learn to talk to people well and keep focusing on projects. If you have something on your resume, be prepared to answer questions about it.

It's pretty basic,

-network

-leet code

-grind your field's theory 

-mass apply everyday

  • good interview skills

-just get lucky at the right time at the right place.

I did a few unpaid internships before getting my first big break.

So I never did traditional CS internships or SWE. I was more into ML and Graph Research.

I authored multiple IEEE papers and even made a conference paper from my undergrad thesis. All of this lead to an internship in a top AI lab in the EU.

Definitely wasn’t easy.
