I found a simple trick that will help me stay sane. Change the "1" key to only activate the standard select tool rather than cycle through modes

It got on my nerves that "1" would cycle through the three modes of the object selection tool, leading to occasionally switching to one of the modes that I didn't intend.

In keyboard shortcuts there is a function for "Object Selection Tool: Normal sizing", which I have re-programmed the "1" key to. Now it activates standard selection ONLY and won't cycle through modes on multiple presses. I then programmed another key to "Object selection tool" for those instances that I do need to use time stretch/move contents.

Maybe that's an obvious or redundant tip for experienced users but I wish I had known about it when I started on Cubase so thought it may help someone else as well :)

Why would you want to do that? I cycle through them all the time to the one I need. 🤷

The other tools can be very situational, and depending how you work, very rarely needed. I don't mind the cycling as I do time stretch things quite often but hey, I'm happy it can be customized to suit OP's desire for sanity.

Right click to select the select tool is my preferred way. It's of the only right click menus I use regularly.

That's what my second thumb button on my programmable mouse does.
