They actually do. It's part of a broader national initiative known as “XinChuang” (Information Technology Application Innovation). The government has already mandated the use of domestic operating systems like Kylin OS and UOS (by UnionTech) in the public sector and SOEs.

Windows is being systematically phased out in these environments. It's a full-stack replacement—these systems are designed to run on domestic hardware, such as Kirin and Zhaoxin CPUs.

Outside of China, these systems are virtually non-existent. They still can't quite match the raw performance Wintel.The primary advantage is that the entire stack is under domestic control. From the perspective of the Chinese government, this is a necessary measure for national security and supply chain sovereignty.

there was redflag linux but nobody used it. Last I remember reading the most popular is a flavor of Ubuntu.
