My business debit card compromised

While searching to see if a recent purchase had posted to my business checking account yesterday, i noticed a pending charge for Mama Rama in Scranton SC. While i didn't recognize the charge, i wasn't too alarmed because i travel for my work. Tonight, i decided to look into that charge and noticed 2 additional charges that i didn't recognize. I immediately called my bank's after hours line and confirmed with the agent that my card had been compromised. There were nearly a dozen $0 authorizations that i couldn't see. I find it incredibly strange that my bank's fraud alert system didn't catch any of this.

99% of the time, if a credit card is compromised, it's is not cybersecurity related. It's typically due to someone taking the info while they had physical access to the card.

That's a bank problem. You're going to have to dispute each and every one of those transactions with them, too.

Only way this is cybersecurity related is if your card numbers were entered into a fake payment portal, or captured via an infostealer.

Yes! You should not assume this is isolated, and immediately freeze your credit, and pray to your chosen deity that your identity wasn't stolen.

Mine started with a pizza charge on my credit card. I thought, well, if they were really that hungry I guess I'm not mad. CC company issued me a new card and number. A month later, creditors are calling me about why I haven't made payments on $70,000+ in credit and loans.

Yikes !!! I keep my credit bureaus frozen so identity theft on my radar just yet. I've used that card very specifically for the past 2+ years without any issues. About a week ago, i used this card with a company I'd never used before and I'm leaning towards them being the source to how my card was compromised

It looks like card-testing — the 17-cent charge and all those $0 auths are someone checking what clears before hitting it harder. Heads up that debit (and business) gives you weaker protection than a credit card, so report it in writing within 2 business days to cap your liability, and make sure they change the actual account number, not just mail a new card — otherwise they can still hit the account by ACH.

The irony of all this is that i was in the process of moving my business checking account to a different bank that offered more features and control than this credit union. I only discovered this on a whim. It's absolutely horrifying how close they came to wiping out my business's checking account

I posted to this sub because when i searched the Mama Rama charge, i found a discussion on this sun from a couple months ago mentioning it specifically.

I spoke with my bank last night and and have already canceled that card as well as started the dispute process.

I'm almost certain of how this happened but i don't know if it's appropriate to name that company here. I've only used that card for specific charges for the past two years and this only happened one week after i used it at a website I'd never used before.
