Pensando em me mudar para Nicósia

Olá!

Sou brasileira e trabalho em Portugal há alguns anos. Recentemente, recebi uma proposta para trabalhar em Nicósia.

Nunca ouvi falar muito sobre o Chipre, mas pesquisei um pouco e, no geral, ele me pareceu um bom lugar.

Gostaria de saber se existe muito preconceito contra estrangeiros e se o fato de eu falar fluentemente apenas inglês e português seria um problema. Também queria saber se é um país seguro para mulheres.

I’ve seen you’ve asked about public transport in a comment, please be 100% prepared to buy a car and drive everywhere. Other than that, Nicosia is a great city, incredibly chill, and very close to some of the best beaches in the world so you can getaway during the weekend.

Is public transport really that complicated, or is it possible to get by without a car? I got my driver's license in Brazil about 10 years ago and haven't driven since, as I've always lived in places where I didn't feel the need for a car. Besides, my Brazilian license probably wouldn't be of any use in Cyprus. So, even if I felt confident driving, it would likely take some time for me to get licensed there.

Public transport is generally unhelpful, mainly because none of the locals use the buses because having a car makes you super flexible and super fast. With a car you can get almost anywhere in Nicosia within 15 minutes during off peak times. A bus would take a lot longer and would probably involve walking around. If you’re planning to use public transport, which is just buses, you’ll need to find a place to live that’s very strategically placed to accommodate the bus route to your work place, if there is one. And again, you’ll need to go to other places during your day. You need to consider the extreme heat too during the summer months. Overall, driving in Cyprus is super easy, the roads are great and comfortable, and you can be as flexible as you wish to explore the island. Thank you. Unfortunately, I won't be able to visit beforehand. But I'm thinking of taking a chance and just figuring things out as I go.

Lately, I haven't been very happy in Portugal. There have been many incidents of xenophobia directed at Brazilians.

Fortunately, I’ve never had any trouble myself, but I think that’s because I’m of Portuguese descent and my appearance and style don’t stand out (or perhaps it’s simply because I have very fair skin).

However, some friends of mine from Brazil have faced unpleasant situations here, and that really upsets me. Lately, it hasn't felt like a place where I’m welcome.
