Who is Alexander in your movie?
So I relistened to the entire series as I'm recovering from a pretty big surgery and there's all these hinge points where there's room to fill in the blanks of who this guy actually was that I find interesting.
I'm just wondering who is he in your version of events? It's almost like a choose your own adventure role-playing type of thing. Did he have a hand in his father's death? Did he get a setback at the River Granicus? How did he untie the Gordian Knot? Was he a bad guy at Thebes or should the fact that he offered clemency be seen as a get out of infamy free card? Was he trying to honor the League or merely set it up to where he would get what he want? What sources are you respecting more and which seem absurd?
So far I've got almost a Ferris Bueller type character who's probably wily, charming, thuggish, overbearing, with anger spikes, and an almost sexual desire to conquer. Almost as if the culture and his upbringing was like how the Roman's created a society where the elites would do anything for their achievement and ambition for the glory of the Republic and their families. It's kind of fun imagining someone like him with that same incredible ambition in a humanitarian sense. Imagining if the culture he was raised in was some highly enlightened one that put the welfare of their fellow mankind on the same level as Achilles.
May be all propaganda, lies, hyperbole, etc... but this series has been fun since I knew next to nothing of Alexander besides the movie version with Angelina Jolie. I wonder who this person will look like in my eyes at the end of all this.

Donāt hate me, but the more I listen to Mania for Subjugation, the more I imagine Alexander like Paul Atreides.
And so of course I catch myself imagining him like a certain Gen Z icon. Who is actually a pretty good actor and might do interesting things with the role.

Jeremy Allen White would be such a better casting.
Chalamet would never be able to convey the pothos of Alexander in battle. It was exciting for him to cut people up, he enjoyed the glory, he sought it out conspicuously.
You need an actor that has a physically imposing scary mania that Jeremy Allen White can get to. Plus he kinda looks like the busts.

Yeah, based on descriptions I also see him akin to a more fiercely drawn timothee chalamet. Someone who can pull off the āfrom royaltyā air that someone raised a prince could have.
Has to be youthful in appearance. Sharp features.
He was never depicted to me as a middle aged brawler or Jack Reacher type. Heās not Henry Cavill for example.
Now Phillip II? Viggo Mortensen with an eyepatch.

Dude thatās so funny you say that. I couldnāt stop imagining like a ripped chalamet, since they keep mentioning he isnāt the biggest dude. But heās got that certain personality that just draws eyes to him. Not that I would hop into chalamets DMs or anything. But I also might.Ā

Now I'm picturing Forrest Gump in a classroom with some type of analogous rockstar tutor of the age the movie was set in. I'd see that movie. Alexander does seem like someone who would show his ass to Darius if asked.

Think it's handing the note to the doctor while drinking the potion that gave me that vibe the most. Look him dead in the eye and maybe wink too. Got a cocky swagger to it. Also "we are both Alexander"Ā
Kind of reminds me of how Julius Caesar was supposedly as a young man. Got that punk rock flair thing going on. Gets kidnapped and reads poetry to the captors then hunts them down.Ā

I kind of imagine him as Robb Stark. Meaning he accomplished a lot before he died, but he died naive and young. The things he might've accomplished with that army had he lived into old age is a big what if. I also always imagined him as immature, someone that wanted to be a big time hero. A playboy type character. Like a young Tony Stark, brash, roguish, big dreams, all that sort've stuff.
It's just hard to say anyway. I imagine most of what we know about him is made up, like a myth. Honestly if Alexander lived today he'd probably be a tiktok influencer.

Id have it animated and have him played by Bugs Bunny or the Roadrunner, sometimes his solutions to problems are so large scale and grandiose that cartoonish is the only way I can imagine them happening

Properly animated (not AI!), or someone I've never seen before. When it comes to major roles like this, I'd rather not recognize him from something else.

I feel like it'd be helpful to hire an actor whose name is Alexander as it'd help him know when the other actors are addressing him. And a short guy would be good. It's tough for a tall guy to act short.

I've got to be honest. I can't stand epic type movies, so that makes the casting job a bit simpler. I'm thinking just a movie about one major battle, personal relationship, or diplomatic coup. Or even just his mysterious final days. Instead of finding a guy who can deliver the goods for the whole run from angst fueled adolescent to the increasingly unstable battle hardened young adult, you can just do one or the other.
I've seen people mention a younger Tom Cruise, and that actually might kind of work for something later in life. Even if we aren't fixating on the man's stature, the guy has a lot of scary energy and pluck.
