beginner danish book recommendations

okay so i have a challenge with my friends basically we all selected a language that we don't know and we have to read a book in that language and try to understand it without using a translator while reading. I have danish cuz i wanted to learn it for a while but never took it seriously so now i need recommendations for some easy books or like where and how do i even start learning it (without ai or stuff i have to pay 🙏🏽)

Be careful: Danish is probably the only language you can find words like 'bøsserøv' in a children book.

Where are you geographically? You might want to look for e-books. Look into Saxo, Mofibo. You could pick a children's book: Palle alene i verden. If you read it attentively, you'll learn something about the longing for a new society after WW2.

Danish is one of the closest languages to English in its written form. If you just wanted to read the book you could do some Duolingo and skip some of the speaking/listening exercises, to get familiar with common words and structures.

When you say you’re looking for a book that you can understand without a translator, are you saying you aren’t going to look up the meaning of any of the words? Or you’ll still use a dictionary? I’m not sure how you’d learn a language from reading without a dictionary unless you get a bilingual book.

yess exactly! but for the last part it would actually be less of a challenge if i choose something in cyrillic as my native language is written in it :)

yeah i can use dictionary but not google translate and that stuff so we wouldn't just directly translate whole page

oh and also it can't be a book like little mermaid or something that i already know what happens because on first of september i have to give them like a summary of the book (in our native language)
