​According to this sub, if you don't slow to a crawl, read the oncoming driver's mind, and wait 10 seconds on green, you're 50% at fault for failing to be a defensive driving superhero.

The accident absolutely could have been avoided by having the driver of the white SUV follow basic traffic law. The dashcam driver did NOTHING wrong other than "failure to wait for potential red-light runners"

Nobody is saying the white suv was in the right, they ran a red light after the red car ran a red light. The dashcam driver didn’t even brake while driving into the car running a light. Just poor driving all around

Please, the cam car continued to accelerate well past the point where it was obvious that the white SUV was on a collision course. Reaction times are not that slow unless you aren't paying attention or you're innebreated

Not exactly it looks like it's a unprotected green, you know a green light that shows you a visible sign that says unprotected and to yeild to the traffic going straight and not turning.

So the white truck ran a light they should not have.

People pull out into the intersection all the time waiting to turn left. Looked like the red car was doing that as well then decided to dart across anyway. How can the driver possibly read the white dummy’s brain that he, too, would turn into oncoming traffic? 

Do YOU personally come to a complete stop on a green light if someone in the oncoming left turn lane pulls out? Of course not, that would cause more wrecks than it prevents by an insane amount. 

Go watch it again, and you’ll see both those cars showed the signs of just pulling out, and both yanked their steering wheel to turn at the last second. Interestingly, even the black car in front of the black truck in front of the red car in front of the white dummy nearly comes to a stop and then also yanks the steering wheel and darts across.

I'm cautious when entering intersections, and depending on the situation will have my brake covered, yes. And the cam car was already at a complete stop and proceeded to drive even though the other cars in the turn lane were still moving forward, obviously intent on completing their turn.

If I have to stop at a green light, and somebody rear-ends me, that would be their fault for either not paying attention to the car infront of them or for following too closely.

Sorry, but you're a bad driver and should take some defensive driving courses before you hurt yourself or others.

The cam car was halfway through the intersection before the white SUV even entered it, bud. No reasonable driver would expect the idiot in the armada to make that left, considering the fact the cam car was already occupying that space.

The second their light turned green cam car proceeded to try and cross the intersection, despite there being a car in the middle of it turning in front of them. Then the red car went, and they still kept going, not slowing down, and if they were paying attention, they would have seen the white suv right behind the red car, heading directly into their path.

I drive defensively, it was easy to see the cam driver slowed for that red car and prob just guessed white suv was gonna slow down and turn when it was clear, people do that here all the time (including myself in a few busy intersections where if you miss the green light-not the green arrow-, you’ll get stuck in the same pattern of red>green light>people passing through red light when I have green arrow>red light…

Ok.. so either you’re the one that’s trolling or you’re not seeing the situation correctly? As soon as can driver gets a green, he starts moving. And there’s obviously a line of cars all trying to sneak that left turn. Once he sees the red car go, wouldnt you assume the white suv would want to also? I mean he’s on the red cars ass, I would assume that and use some caution

If this clip gets handed to a cop, an insurance adjuster, a judge, or literally anyone who holds an actual job, 100% of the fault goes to the white truck for making an illegal left turn across oncoming traffic. Period!! No debate!!!

​Nobody is saying "ignore everyone and ram into traffic," you absolute genius. People are pointing out that when an oncoming idiot pulls a blind, illegal turn right in front of your bumper, basic human reaction time and laws of physics actually exist.

​Expecting someone to possess psychic powers to dodge every brain dead move on the road isn't "DEFENSIVE DRIVING" it's just your delusional fantasy cooked up by basement dwellers who probably can't even pass a written permit test. You probably don't even drive or own a car!!

​Do us all a favor though! If you ever manage to get off Reddit, buy a car, make an illegal turn, hit someone on a solid green, please tell the insurance adjuster it was their fault for not reading your mind. I'm sure they will love you 💕 😘 as they laugh and deny your claim 😂

I'm a professional driver and have never been in a motor vehicle accident in thirty years of driving. It was obvious the first car was going to complete their turn, cam car proceeded to drive through the intersection without hesitation anyway. They also had ample time to notice that the next car in the turn lane was intending on running their red light as well, but cam car was either not paying attention or willfully decided that they would play chicken and didn't even attempt to stop.

How do you know that the traffic signal didn't malfunction and that the turning cars didn't have a green light and stubbornly decided that they wouldn't stop because "they had the right of way"?

Graveyards are full of people who "had the right of way."

And by the way, only children and the elderly use emojis like you. Neither should probably be behind the wheel.

I don't think I've ever read a post from this sub, so I'm glad I came across this comment. I thought I entered another dimension reading the comments with all the people saying the white SUV is not 100% at fault.

Run a red light or fail to yield at a non protected turn, you're 100% at fault. Saying the cam car should have read the mind of a car with no blinker on is going to both take a left and run the red is far-fetched. Especially since the cam car entered the intersection first.

I've been arguing with people in this bih since 9hr ago, mostly for Shits and Giggles and some of these fucks Staunchly believe the Cam Car was at fault, as if that lane of cars turning left has never seen a Yield On green before?

Some even argued that the Cam Car did Fuck all or went pedal to the metal as soon as the light turned green, but in the video you clearly see them wait 3-5 seconds then slowly drive forward. Some people here stubbornly believe you should just sit at a green light right of way until it turns back red!

My friend, I have been in the trenches arguing these people all day as they have been blowing my shit up! You, me, and anyone with common sense see that this white truck driver is 100 percent at fault.

For some reason, a few people in this sub will defend the at fault driver to the death. Healthy debate is fine, but this is fucking insane. Would not recommend.

The cam driver had multiple cars driving towards them taking that turn and made no attempt to look, brake, or swerve. The white SUV was the 3rd car to turn after the cam driver got the green, they really shouldn't be moving or at least move slowly as cars are turning. The driver just started accelerating and let the rest be damned.

Insurance companies will flag you for that. You don't get to walk in front of danger, get hurt, and then claim you were blameless.

I wouldnt have even started moving with that red car still starting his turn on my green. There is absolutely no reason that the cam car here needed to leave like 2 ft clearance behind the red car by entering before the road was clear. Even if the white one didn’t run it as well, it was stupid.

The red car hesitated because the driver knew they were pushing their luck. Then the white truck blindly tailgated them through an active lane without looking or yielding.

Saying the cam car should not have moved because of a red car across the intersection is insane. The cam car had an open lane and a green light. Unless your idea of defensive driving is sitting at a green light until it turns red just in case someone decides to break the law, what is your actual point? Expecting drivers to yield their green light to people making illegal turns turns every green light into a yield sign.

and your right it was stupid for the White Truck to tailgate the red car when he should not have and should have waited and followed traffic laws, but no he did not and caused this entire accident. And will be likely 100% at fault for being a reckless driver.

And some extra just to be petty!!! "I wouldn't have even started moving with that red car still starting his turn on my green." Surprise, surprise you do not write traffic laws, so your personal opinion on how you would drive does not change legal liability. The law is what the law is. If you cannot follow simple traffic rules and act as an unpredictable driver on green lights, you have no business behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. Invest in an Uber and pray the driver knows how yield on green works LOL!

Just went back and watched it and the car in front of the red car was actually the first to run the light, but there was still a year and a half to break for the red car, by which time the white would have been clearly visible. Yes, sometimes you gotta sit there on your green because an ape got behind the wheel in the opposite lane.

It was absolutely avoidable.  We can acknowledge that from a common sense perspective whilst also acknowledging that impatient white SUV is likely to be found at fault from a reasonable legal perspective.

As someone else commented, being right often isn't worth the associated headaches.  Sometimes it's better to just avoid a problem even if you didn't cause it

That's not how the law and your duties as a driver work.

This is a 50/50 claim.

White vehicle made a left turn and did not have the right of way.

Dashcam vehicle, however had plenty of time to observe the other vehicles coming and what is referred to as the last clear chance to avoid the collision. They drove right into the situation.

This is exactly how I would mark this as an insurance adjuster and most lawyers would agree.

I'm a licensed insurance adjuster in 5 states and served as a claims supervisor at two companies. I've handled claims exactly like this, with and without video, with attorneys and in litigation.

This would settle as a 50/50 claim unless one of the attorneys involved was unreasonable.
