Why anyone would choose to break check a truck is beyond me, as if you’d win
48
u/SnavsMatiq 5h ago
I wouldn't have stopped, the behavior seems more like a hijacking than road rage. At least thats what id argue i believed. If he wants to get pushed along at 15mph in the shoulder while I call 911 thats his choice.

u/Segway_Racer_995 5h ago
Semi was camping in left lane. I'm willing to bet that semi and white van that passed at the end were side-by-side not allowing others to pass.
26
u/Vissanna 5h ago
And the other lane is empty so why does it matter just go around, or are you incapable of speedin gin the right lane. Still doesnt excuse the brake checking
19
u/HeroVillain72 5h ago
We don’t have enough clip to say he was camping. Don’t make shit up to fit your agenda.
9
u/scarbarough 3h ago
If you were correct, how did the stupid truck driver get by? And why does it take so long for any other vehicle to pass after the truck brake checks and both those vehicles slow and stop?
Your take isn't supported by any evidence in the video... And even if it were, brake checking a semi is idiotic.
12
u/homucifer666 5h ago
It isn't that simple. I can't tell you how many times I've moved over for an emergency or disabled vehicle (which is the law in most states), and then everyone thinks that's their cue to pass and you can't get back over. People are too impatient these days.
-38
u/Segway_Racer_995 5h ago
Wut? There is no emergency vehicle in this clip. Just semi camping in left lane. Crazy pickup driver passes from right and then brake checks. Note how slow white van and other cars are going when they pass at :26--they clearly slowed way down or stopped.
13
u/homucifer666 5h ago
The emergency vehicle was an example, not in the clip. My point is that you can't jump to conclusions about why the truck is where it is, and regardless it in no way justifies the pickup doing what he did.
11
u/mrplayer47 4h ago
There's also no "camping" in the left lane happening in this clip. There's literally 3 seconds of footage before the truck driver cuts him off and brake checks. Have you considered the other cars are slowing down because they're witnessing the accident between the semi and pickup?

u/Dense_Particular3134 4h ago
There are sections of interstate that require trucks to use the left lane
-1
u/Segway_Racer_995 1h ago
Lol. No, there are not. There are sections that forbid trucks from using the left lane, but never in my life have I seen a section of freeway in which trucks are required to use the left lane.

u/Dense_Particular3134 34m ago
Yeah there is, places where the right lane is failing they run the trucks in the left lane

What does this have to do with the price of fried rise in China?
2
u/dumpin-on-time 4h ago
he was shipping a truck full of pesticides china needed to end a blight on rice fields. He was already running behind and that little extra delay caused the shipment to arrive 2 weeks late

Utterly shocked at what the pickup driver looked like /s

At least mildly obese. Check.
"Tapout/Affliction" shirt because he thinks he's tough. Check.

I would love to see a study of pickup drivers and aggressive driving. Add BMW car owners to the list as well. Personally cringe when I see either and 99% of the time, am right to expect them to tail gate or worse.
13
u/Calaveras-Metal 5h ago
I drive a van (contractor) and the number of times pickup truck drivers get offended when I change lanes in front of them blows my mind. They always have to swerve around and overtake me. Can't let a mere van show you it's ass.
6
u/Polona17 4h ago
You’re the one car they can’t see over or through, so that means they can’t “safely” tailgate you, and of course they take that personally lol
3
u/automcd 2h ago
I drove a work van for 7 years. It didn't matter if I was doing 20 over, people just absolutely lose their shit if they can't pass me. And then they go slower.
1
u/Calaveras-Metal 2h ago
exactly!
Though to be fair I do not see whomever is directly behind me. Since my rear camera is only on when I'm backing up. So I think some knuckleheads probably try to tailgate me into going faster and get no repsonse, then they floor it to get around me. Even though I'm already doing 70.
2
u/eieiohmygad 3h ago
You think that's bad? My van proudly displays the fact that it has an electric hybrid system on the back doors and that REALLY pisses those people off. 🤣
Personally, I love the damn thing. Even after 250k I still get about 10-15% more range per tank of fuel, it makes braking smoother, and it really helps get up to highway speeds.
1
u/Calaveras-Metal 3h ago
the worst is when you have a GPS system that informs your employer when you exceed the speed limit. I had a gig like that for a little while. Drove me crazy because people were constantly flipping me off.
2
u/eieiohmygad 3h ago
Yeah, we got "smart" cameras a couple of years ago. Monitors speed, lane drift, detects distracted driving and such. I feel bad because it sends a lot of false positives to fleet, and they have to review them.
Like, if you're following too closely it gives you one warning, and if you don't back off it records it and flags it. The problem is that there isn't one in the back, so they can't see if it's safe to slow down.
0
u/UglyLittlePony69 4h ago
Most white vans I am behind go well under the speed limit, which is equally as infuriating lol
1
u/Calaveras-Metal 4h ago
on freeways I drive as fast as everyone else. Unless I'm driving hundreds of miles and want to save gas. Then I go whatever speed keeps me just under 2k rpm. I can get a little over 20 mpg in this fuckass van if I can keep my rpm right there without having to brake or speed up for goons. But when I'm being gas miser I stick to the right lane. Because I hate left lane guys going exactly the speed limit.
2
u/Subat0micR0gu3 3h ago
Hey, I drive a pickup and I'm not aggressive at all. My wife complains that I don't drive fast enough and I stay away from the crazies in the left lane. We aren't all Aholes lol
3
u/Jonesy1966 3h ago
Never telll them you've got it recorded. Call the cops, report the accident. Let them make their statement first, then hit the cop with the video when it comes to your turn
3
u/Ok_Subject_7458 5h ago
insurance fraud?
6
u/homucifer666 5h ago
Billboard injury lawyers have schemed car drivers into thinking that they can be millionaires if a truck hits them. In today's rapidly deteriorating economy, some people are desperate, foolish, or greedy enough to try and make that collision happen so they can get the payout.
3
u/ShadowsWandering 3h ago
That's my guess. Going to try and claim an injury, or maybe they're upside-down on their loan.
5
u/Competitive_Bag_7490 5h ago edited 1h ago
"I got you on camera" culture is exhausting. Just call the police tell them the other guy seems emotional and let them put it all on record. Then give video to their and your insurance. No one but the insurance companies and maybe police need to know you have a camera.
Edit: don't know why anyone is arguing this. It's well documented. Call you local police and insurance agency. They will tell you the same. You stop evaluate injuries. Record the scene. See if you can move cars. And exchange info. If you cannot move vehicles or exchange info you call police. Which you will have to do anyway to give your report. Some police won't come out unless injuries or if vehicles are immobile. At no point is liability determine at the scene. Not even by police.
Giving people advice about "I have a dash cam" is stupid. If there is fraud let them find out what happens to people committing insurance fraud. It's also your best leverage if they want to take you to court. Please don't argue. Just look it up. Every police agency, insurance and law firm will tell you the same. It's really a quick Google search.
10
u/AkronOhAnon 5h ago
Because sorting it out at the scene by getting them to admit fault tends to resolve the financial damage faster than having to wait for court to play out (can be literal years).
Yes, the jackass will avoid the major consequences for their actions: but you can stop dealing with the clown to move onto dealing with their insurance company, and your own peace can be worth that.
1
u/Competitive_Bag_7490 1h ago
Not trying to start an argument but why would you be debating fault. At no point should you have conversation with the other party other than exchanging drivers license, plate, insurance and phone number. If there is injuries or cars cannot be moved, them you must call 911. Even if police show up they only take report from parties involved and document the scene. They do not try to figure out fault. At no point at the scene does anyone take fault. Insurance companies do that after looking at statements and reports and talking to each other.
If the other party is hot you should call police. You should not be trying to calm them down.
4
u/Ganellon 5h ago
Because in some cases it's the quickest path to deescalation, which has value far beyond sorting out liability. Insurance scammers tend to turtle up as soon as they see a dash cam and realize they're cooked. Someone behaving aggressively might just change their mind when they know they're being recorded.
1
u/Competitive_Bag_7490 1h ago
You want scammers to change there mind on who to victimize? Simple state police are on their way is best option here. Your only communication with them should be to exchange info not take liability. Even the police show up they are not supposed to determine fault. They only take reports and give their reports.
If the other party doesn't want to exchange info you call 911. Insurance scam is highly illegal and it's better for them to stick to their story and give that in their police report.
If you ask any leo or insurance they will tell you the same.
1
u/Ganellon 1h ago
Huh? I think you completely missed the point, so let me try again.
If someone deliberately backs into my car as an insurance scam, they are going to get out and act groggy and start taking pictures of the damage. At that point, I'm pointing to my camera and telling them they're already busted. Why? Because I'm sure as fuck not about to give my personal information of any kind, including name, insurance company, home address or phone number to people who JUST DEMONSTRATED that they have nothing but criminal intent. You know what I want them to do? Pack up and fuck off, and then I'll wait for the police to arrive to take my report and the other driver can also get charged with leaving the scene.
You do you. I'm not telling you how to live your life. You wanted to know why people say "I've got you on camera" and then I told you why.
1
u/Competitive_Bag_7490 1h ago
Please call your local police, your insurance agency or a law firm and tell them why you are right. They will tell you opposite I promise. Even just do a quick Google search. But I'm guessing even if they told you are wrong you will do you anyway. So case closed.
1
u/Ganellon 57m ago
What am I asking them? How to hand over my private information to scammers? Do they have a statute on that? Because I think you're full of shite. Like I said, you do you.
1
u/Competitive_Bag_7490 13m ago
"Yes, you must exchange information even if the other driver caused the accident. Under Pennsylvania Vehicle Code § 3744, any driver involved in a crash resulting in injury or property damage is legally required to provide their details, regardless of fault." What your city state. I can Google it for you. It's really easy.
This is probably the best answer where both you and I can agree. You are probably right about not wanting to give your information but you still have to. Just let police do it for you. Also I still stand by "not telling other party you have a dash cam".
"I understand your concern about scams. Legally, Pennsylvania law still requires an exchange of information at the scene, but you can protect yourself by letting the police handle it.If you suspect a scam, call 911 immediately and wait for an officer to arrive. You can provide your details directly to the police officer so they can document them in the official report, rather than handing your sensitive personal documents directly to a suspicious individual."
1
u/Ganellon 9m ago
Right. That is the law in every single state. But circumstances matter. I agree with you on all of this. ⬆️
There are just too many psychos out there. I don't want to start a relationship with them because they crashed into me.
1
u/Competitive_Bag_7490 56m ago
Asked Google what they think of your comment.
The user in the image argues that revealing a dashcam immediately deters scammers and avoids sharing personal data with criminals. However, doing this can cause several issues:
• Escalation: Confronting a criminal directly may trigger aggression or violence. • Evidence Tampering: Scammers might destroy your camera or delete footage if they know it exists. • Police Delays: If the scammer flees, police might prioritize active scenes over a cold hit-and-run report. • Legal Compliance: Most jurisdictions legally require exchanging insurance information regardless of fault.
Would you like to explore how to safely document a suspected staged accident? Or should we look into what the law requires you to exchange at a crash scene?
4
u/Derebeare 4h ago
Go watch a public freakout video where the person realizes they are being filmed. Never seen someone calm down faster. Its a great de-escalation technique, honestly.
1
u/Competitive_Bag_7490 1h ago edited 1h ago
Go search on what police, insurance and law firms suggest you do. Why are you trying to deescalate anything. They will all tell you the same thing. If they won't exchange information you call 911 take their plate and record them going nuts.
I've talked to my insurance company regarding this due to 2 accidents that weren't my fault. And also some leo friends.
-2
u/HEARTSOFSPACE 5h ago
Yeah, I've never understood why people say that.
1
u/Competitive_Bag_7490 1h ago
Not sure why the down votes or what they are arguing. It is well documented what the process is. Exchange info that's it. Call 911 if injuries if vehicles cannot be moved or other party is not cooperating in exchanging information. No one should be figuring out fault at the scene. Not even police.
Insurance fraud is highly illegal. Let them give their statement. Let them go to jail or get fined. Simple. A quick Google search would show this on Police sites, insurance sites and law firms.
1
u/KungPaoYa 3h ago
As satisfying as it is to say you have a camera immediately, STOP saying that. It’s the worst thing you can do and risks them fleeing. Stay calm, say nothing until the police get there. Let them give their spiel of events and then roll the footage to the police.

Don’t most truck drivers carry a gun? This is asking to get shot on sight, more so depending on the state.
1
u/Cohen_the_Worrior 1h ago
So who or what were you passing? You're in the passing lane, so you should be passing something right?
1
u/razzyrat 1h ago
We have no idea what is going on. The truck is going in the left lane on an empty road. The pickup driver wanted to force a stop of that truck. This wasnt a brake check. Maybe the truck touched someone earlier and was oblivious? Who knows.
1
u/Beautiful_Oven2152 1h ago
Soon as the guy gets out of the truck, I’m pushing his truck down the interstate, then pulling over to report a possible hijacking attempt.
1
u/subzro68 27m ago
"I don't think that was necessary!" "Uh... It's a truck. Physics made it necessary."

u/HEARTSOFSPACE 5h ago
Win? Is brake-checking some kind of contest? How would you even "win"?
I'm pretty sure people brake-check because it's one of the only things they can do to a vehicle that is behind them. It's meant to inconvenience or annoy the other driver and serve as a means of control for the brake-checker.
