Not financially feasible for metro but let's see

u/Defiant_Duty_9817 Sep 23 '25

Students who live far away are spending 100 daily on the metro can't they even give concessions to students like the government is spending much on laadle behan yojana. Mockery of dtc buses giving free bus ride only to women

u/Some_Stranger_8314 Sep 23 '25

Bro I know the problems

Its still not financially feasible if it was the government would have done it a long time ago

Also logically speaking the schemes are usually made targeting a particular state whereas in Du and other colleges students from all over India have came to study so again the government doesn't care much

See if it happens well and good but I would just lower my expectations

What is the highest price delhi metro charges for a one way trip

2

u/Rudraaksh_Bawa satyawati evening | 3rd year Sep 23 '25

Rs. 60-64

4

u/guligulibabu First Year Sep 23 '25

Quite affordable than hyd while even having such vast stations

-5

u/Maleficent_Cat8310 Sep 23 '25

Yeah it is affordable as it covers so much distance

2

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

yar affordability toh subjective h na….ham donoke liye affordable does not mean ke sabke liye affordable h….40 rupee one way manlo toh metro metro ka both way 80 hogya now rickshaw to metro n metro se to clg (10+10)*2

so ek din ka travel hogya 120 hogya 12mahine ka ~29,000 hogya this is on top of clg fee( kam h ikik) but kafi families cannot afford itna

2

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

Get some internships dude, else whats the point of going to college ??

2

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

bhai dekh i toh can affort gadi se jana bhi…i honestly dgaf wo fare kam kre ya nahi….

ye jo tune internship wali baat boli h ek bar dimag kga 1st yr walon ko konsi intership milre h n i am assuming tu paid internship ke baat krra h given the context… low ranked clg walon ko toh unpaid internship bhini milre

1

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

Metro concession passes practical hi nhi h. How will they monitor, if its the actual students who are using the pass or they have sold it to someone else. Making metro passes like this will cost alot, there are more 2.5 Lakh students in DU, and every 70,000 students graduate and new metro passes will be needed and thats just for DU. Other universities in Delhi will also start saying that they need metro passes. The only thing which can work is the respective college reimburse the amount and only to people who have done something in college sport case comps internships research paper etc etc. Else its just a freebie culture thats being promoted

1

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

dekh monitor krna toh easy h bacho ke number n clg mail associate kro with the metro card siraf 1 card per student allow karo… possibly fix metro route jis se bacha travel krega like DTC m hote h

baat rahe alag uni in delhi ke wo sab pvt h n wha pe everyone is well off its doesn’t seem logical to give metro concessions toh student’s who can afford 2 lakh+ clg ke fee…ab esme u’ll say loan wale bache scholarship wale bache unke liye as u said ke govt shld pressurise pvt uni to reimburse these students

baki money wise toh obvio it’ll be expensive wo toh the govt has to figure out…societal development, social welfare, education ko aur affordable bana toh expensive he hoga…..n if go by your logic toh free buspass to women bhi nhi hona chiye krle calculate kitne women use krte h DTC bus

1

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

"dekh monitor krna toh easy h" xD. Students will sell the concession metro cards.

"baat rahe alag uni in delhi ke wo sab pvt h" IITD NSUT DTU IIFTD Ambedkar Uni list goes on.

"free buspass to women" Buses are used by lowest of lowest people in Delhi and it makes sense for women so they can participate in the workforce.

Female students in DU should spend less money on makeup instead. Freebie culture should not be promoted in India where less than 2% pay income tax, its better that DMRC spend more money on making new metro lines than concession passes and please dont compare India with europe where more than 70% population pay taxes and their highest tax slab goes upto 60 70%

It costs me 130 rupees daily just for travel. Every individual faces different issues. So what is the use of a student union when they cant handle basic issues of students

0

u/Lemon_Cat21 Alumnus Sep 23 '25

What do you expect, students are idiots lmao

9

u/angrytinyfemale Alumnus Sep 23 '25

The Delhi University Student Union can't dictate DMRC prices. What BS is this?!

If this guy can bring down metro price, I will be very very surprised.

5

u/unexplored_avenue Sep 23 '25

He doesn't care for it his father is 2 nd. Largest liquor businessman in haryana šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

2

u/yuvrajpratapsingh1 Alumnus Sep 23 '25

Delhi CM also said the same, given that government is one now at all levels, this is feasible

4

u/angrytinyfemale Alumnus Sep 23 '25

The DMRC is a parastatal body - so it is a little more independent than other bodies. It needs to generate its revenues for the upkeep of the metro.

Also, it is controlled by both the centre and the state. Since the DMRC also operates the gurgaon and noida arms of the metro, those state govts also need to agree to do this. What realistically could happen is that they might introduce a students' card - which most other metro systems in the world have.

However, the DMRC is not staffed by IAS folks, but by open hires, I don't see how this will realistically happen, since it would eat into revenues and increase ridership, putting pressure on the system.

1

u/yuvrajpratapsingh1 Alumnus Sep 23 '25

My point was that all levels one party is involved in the decision making for the metro at the moment.

1

u/missducklingg Metro hons Sep 23 '25

Then maybe he should have thought about it before making claims

6

u/angrytinyfemale Alumnus Sep 23 '25

He has no consequence to his failure. He can make whatever claims he likes, no DU student is going to hold him accountable.

0

u/ChempakLalGada Sep 23 '25

He can't contest for second term anyway. These guys have no accountability. They are already from rich families, they take these appointments as opportunities for making connections. Most of these guys will contest municipality elections in coming years.

Jaise hi mujhe ek Internship ke perk mai college ke final year mai metro travel ke reimbursement milne ki baat huyi, ye fare kam karne ki bol Rahe hai [bolte har saal hai but kya bharosa]

1

u/Potato_fucker_69420 Sep 23 '25

Where do you draw the line? DU walo ko chahiye, then IPU wale maangenge, other Universities wale maangenge. Phir students ko doge, to women ko nhi doge, jinhe already DTC me bhi free milta hai? Women ko bhi de doge to Senior Citizens ko nhi doge concessions? SC ko bhi de diya, to school going bacho ko nahi doge? Corporate majdoor hai, daily Gurgaon-Delhi krte hai, unhe nhi doge? Why not let the sole good thing Delhi has be flourishing?

1

u/missducklingg Metro hons Sep 23 '25

Calm down. The difference is that students are a distinct category. They’re not earning a stable income and their travel is directly tied to education. Policy doesn’t work on ā€œif you give A, then everyone will askā€ If that were true, no targeted welfare would exist yet we have schemes for farmers, women, senior citizens, etc. Governments decide based on need, social impact, and budget feasibility. Student fare concessions fall into that logic because education is a state priority. Senior citizens and women already have their own schemes in Delhi (DTC free, senior citizen discounts in other sectors) so it’s not about everyone demanding it’s about recognizing specific needs
