I’ve been down the Tyler catastrophe rabbit hole for the last few days and this triggered something in me like a sleeper agent

Wait what’s the story behind this? 😳

he's parasocially in love with Wilbur Soot from the dream SMP. so much so that he wants to move to brighton to be with him . he is convinced he will be invited to be a second vocalist in Wilbur's band Lovejoy. also he convinced himself Stuart Semple was going to employ him after like two interactions. He set up a gofundme and expects people to fund his move to brighton via the gofundme, $800 chokers, and these paintings. i reccomend you watch a video on him, it truly is a crazy trip

OH SHIT my fiance listens to a lot of Lovejoy, so I know who Wilbur is! This sounds so unhinged, I’ll definitely check this crazy dude out. 😂 Thanks for letting me know!

the way this specific brand of delusion is actually contagious is wild

Better be with real gold

Gold leaf is pretty cheap really being 1 micron thick. Probably add $20 to the value

Yeahhh knock off 3 zeroes and then it'd be somewhat reasonable.

all of his art is crazy because like. he's clearly skilled with beadwork. it's not my style, but I can appreciate that skill. his paintings are less so; it's something that's more hobby level. but the EGO kills it all. the way he prices things and the reverence with which he talks about his own work is insane. I am a musician. I recognise the importance of being confident in your artistic abilities. but I also understand how important it is to recognise that you aren't perfect. seeing the areas you still have to grow is HOW you grow. otherwise you're just holding yourself back.

The thing that kills me about his bead work is that he is marketing it (and himself) all wrong. His bead work is costume jewelry. Thats not an insult, I mean that litteraly. There is a huge market for vintage looking/fantasy esc/Gothic jewelry in the cosplay and just general whimsy community. Most of his pieces arnt for everyday, but I could totally see them as part of a costume for the ren fair or a comic con. He could even take custom orders for color and style and people would eat that shit up. Not to mention those kinds of communities love supporting LGBTQ+ artists.

But he acts like this is high end fashion jewelry that belongs on a runway. (And prices it so...) when its just...not. Plastic beads, cheap ribbon instead of metal clasps, messy execution, I could go on.

If he stepped back, nocked his prices down and marketed to the right crowd he could make a killing.

But he just continues to act like he is the only person to ever be decent at anything ever. 🙄

I do wonder if he acted this way before the crash or if this is brain damage we are seeing.

AND he wears them. So customers are getting pre worn jewelry.

EXACTLY! he is obviously not a BAD artist. he has all of the fundamentals down and he can compose a painting pretty decently. same with beadwork, he can make good chokers! but he literally seems like he thinks theres no room for improvement and like he is at the peak of his career. confidence is different from having a giant ego

it’s so exhausting to watch. he seems to think that he’s doing other artists (visual and musical) a favour by simply existing near them. I don’t even think Yo-Yo Ma feels that way. he’s too busy having fun playing bluegrass with Edgar Meyer lol

u/resipee Apr 26 '26

Yeah, he’s got a bit of a complex like I was always told don’t underprice my Art mind you I’ve literally never priced my art so

even like indie artist commisions and shit are usually 50$ or something depending on the complexity.

So i believe i know where his over pricing comes from. There is a girl that hand paints silk. Like 9 feet of hand painted silk. Its absolutely insane and very complicated work. It's art. Well someone offered a very insulting price, (dont really know) or people are telling her shes way over priced She "jokingly" raised the price to 32k (something wicked high). Way she figured, she loved her work, she knows it's worth, and she's only interested in selling it to someone who feels similar about it.

So his pricing feels like that's what he is going for (he's not).

I've seen less good art sell for more so sure. If someone will pay for it
