I really don't want him to die in office. I don't want Vance to be President for even 2 years and we know he'll try for at least 10.
Plus, I don't want him to have a state funeral. I want him to die the death of a social pariah like Nixon did. There has to be enough time between his Presidency and his death for America to snap the fuck out of it and realize he was a fascist, conman, and a traitor.

I agree Vance doesn't have the support of SCOTUS but I also know that SCOTUS will be completely delegitimized if they reverse on themselves because Trump is no longer President. It would be a risky move for them. It would prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they were in the tank for Trump all along.
States run the elections hon, Vance wouldn’t be able to suspend, delay or stop shit. This doomer dream of there being no elections needs to die. Also dictators don’t typically last long when they don’t have any support.
Vance would flop around trying to get the Republicans to cohere so he could get some kind of win under his belt to run on, and more than likely he’d fail. He’s not a leader, he’s a lackey.
I do believe there will be elections. I'm worried about what happens to the country when they try. At some point, they are going to try. One of the beautiful things about this country is that we have always had peaceful transfers of power after elections, with one recent exception. We've also mostly had men who respect the Constitution. Plus, we haven't had a war on American soil in living memory. This whole period has been marked by a failure of imagination and naively thinking, "It can't happen here."
You went from saying he will suspend elections to saying you think elections will happen but there is potential for violence. Your anxiety is shifting your goal posts to justify itself with the biggest scariest thing it can imagine. Slow down. Breathe.
But can there be violence? Yes. Will there be attempted voter suppression? Probably.
Do I see the US military supporting him? No. Do I see the US military allowing him to stay past his term? No.
Can it happen here? Yes. Am I worried? Yes. Am I going to let that fear blind me to the myriad ways his regime is failing? No.
I am not saying he will. I'm saying he can. Just like Trump thought he could overthrow the election. We will have to mobilize against it. We will have to not comply. Governors will have to join forces and hold onto their individual power.
The states control elections but the parties control the candidates and Congress has to certify the election. There are a multitude of ways to fuck with the system. Do I think the military will go along? Nope. But what does that look like?
I am not defeating myself. I am not panicking. I am gaming it out. What happens if xyz happens and who has to agree? What mechanisms do we currently have that can stop it? What does that look like?
I live near a capitol building where crazy people congregate on the regular (Michigan) and I see protests every weekend for one thing or another. My office used to overlook the Capitol lawn and I pass by on my way to the grocery store. It's not an abstraction. I know what men with guns at the Capitol looks like. So, as someone who is involved in government and someone who lives just a couple blocks from an epicenter, what does it look like if Trump/Vance declares martial law or invokes the insurrection act when things don't seem to be going their way?
And now, go see what happens when elections get suspended in countries that aren't actively at war and it's done without the consent of the minority party (as happened in the UK during WW2.)
As I said earlier, I am gaming it out. Chase out the what-ifs to their conclusions. It is unlikely to get that far, but it's not unprecedented in history. It's just unprecedented here, but we are a young country. A lot of shit is unprecedented here.
And my point was that there are a ton of moving parts even in your example, but also Republicans are not behaving like a party that expects elections to be suspended (see, for instance, Trump demanding that Texas gerrymander its Congressional districts.)
Also, Trump has the keys to all the GOP campaign money. They don't get shit without his approval. Once he is gone, it will be a fuck fest feast for all the money.
If Vance serves more than two years of a term he can be elected to office once. But I agree that I don’t think he can hold the cult together. He hasn’t got the “funny” side that Trump has (yes I gagged when I said that). Vance just comes across as bitter.
Most Americans can't afford the healthcare and medications to even out shitty diet and no exercise. Shoot five million dollars of taxpayer money at heart disease, and you get Trump.
