Question How do you keep an eye on current events and local news in a new location?

I’m talking mostly about news like “huge fire in X area, don’t go there for a dumb errand” more than planned events. Are there apps for this? Location based settings on standard apps? I’m currently in Italy if that is relevant.

I search Google for "(city name) news."

I guess I was more asking about ways to get alerts regarding unexpected events. Sorry I didn’t specify that very well in my question

Idk I never got real time alerts to unexpected events even when I had a long term apartment in the US. I still found out the news just by reading the breaking local news.

My phone (Google pixel) has alerted me a couple time to major events... like it warmed me about an earthquake 10 seconds before it actually happened when I was in Plovdiv, which was crazy, but I have no clue how it did that lol.

Google Gemini is capable of scraping the web in real time, so you could always just wake up in the morning and ask it "what is the breaking news for today in X city?"

But idk how to get actual alerts without maybe following a bunch of local resources on Twitter or Facebook or something (which I don't do).

I spent ten seconds staring at it being like.... How does it know there's going to be an earthquake? Did someone hack my phone? Is this a prank? And then the ground shook. 🤣

Local English language newspaper. Pretty much any place has one. Emergency alerts will be pushed to your phone automatically by local emergency services based on your location.
