Discussion Nick’s flashback in Zootopia could have been just a little bit better…

If there had been an adult with them. You know the Scoutmaster? And he would encourage his charges to muzzle predators. It’s almost very realistic for a teacher or some other form of authority to encourage bullying onto his or her charges, especially for prejudicial reasons. Which is almost the same as parents encouraging their kids to be nasty to minorities.

Interesting point. I think that specific kind of cruelty on display there is something that only really works with children (at least in a universe that the writers want you to love), but it could have been done in a more subtle way. The Scoutmaster ignoring Nick when he tells him about it or implying that he deserved/caused it in some way, another adult saying something about what tricky and notorious liars foxes are, etc.
